Tasted by Rbtrage on 6/16/2023 & rated 94 points: Felt super young. Drank like 2016s. (270 views)
Tasted by bobvictor on 5/6/2023 & rated 94 points: Nice age at this point. Rich, dark, nose of tomatoe plants and earth (247 views)
Tasted by sayward on 1/19/2023 & rated 94 points: Drinking amazing at the moment. Very fruit forward and was a great contrast to the French wines that we were drinking. This should have several years of good drinking ahead of us. (390 views)
Tasted by Rbtrage on 12/31/2019 & rated 95 points: Really opened up after 2 hours in the decanter. Possibly my wine of the year. 95++ (1417 views)
Tasted by Elkcims on 10/28/2019 & rated 96 points: Full bodied, earth, wood, graphite, blue and black fruits, and a 30 second finish. A lovely big and teeth staining wine. (1445 views)
Tasted by gteran76 on 7/21/2019 & rated 93 points: Decanted 30 minutes and it was ready to enjoy! Dark notes mixed with herbs, minerals and smoke. The body is bold, nicely integrated and balanced, with a good finish. I felt Can Sauvignon, Cab Franc and a drop of two of Petit Verdot... but I couldn’t find the oficial blend composition. If you know it please drop me a line! (1390 views)
Tasted by bobvictor on 9/27/2018 & rated 93 points: Dark dark purple. Even after an hour still some menthol on the nose. Rich, smooth taste of dark red fruit striking the mid to upper palate. Expansive though monolithic. Everything is coming together well now, don’t hesitate to drink! (1526 views)
Tasted by Mark1npt on 7/22/2018 & rated 94 points: The WOTN.....rich red/black fruit, depth and power still left to appreciate. Tannins run through the end with decent acidity and plenty of class. Easily outclassed the others at the table. Settled into a pleasant little secondary texture-taste profile. Beautiful. Drink them now if you have them. (2576 views)
Tasted by gesusser on 12/27/2017 & rated 93 points: a most excellent last bottle after a short decant...smooth, easy drinking, & gone very quickly.. agree with other posters as to lack of complexity & being monolithic; (1230 views)
Tasted by Yamadori on 10/14/2017 & rated 92 points: Popped and Poured. Beautiful nose of ripe dark fruit. Rich, dark fruit on the palate featuring blackberry, plum ans a little boysenberry. The heat and alcohol elements this wine displayed in the past have disappeared and it has integrated nicely. Not much in the way of secondary characteristics and the finish is moderate with manageable tannins. A bit monolithic but is still really nice and drinking well right now. Seems like it has further improvement left in it. (1629 views)
Tasted by sayward on 12/9/2014 & rated 93 points: Drank blind after a 3 hour decant. Had a bit of spice going on that made it a tough call between Cali syrah and cab. The lack of hotness on the finish bent it back towards cab. Dark and brooding wine. I drank this wine a little over a year ago and it seems to be showing a little more fruit at this point. The finish was smooth but once I finished my food it got rougher. A good wine, but I am still partial to the 2005 vs. 2006. (3168 views)
Tasted by Yamadori on 4/20/2014 & rated 92 points: Decanted 3 hours. Notes of Kirsch on the nose along with cassis. Medium plus body but shows a really smooth, refined mouthfeel. Nice black cherry and blackcurrant fruit. The fruit comes over as very clean and precise. Did not get any of the heat that the nose suggested. Some notes of dark chocolate but overall not a complex wine which is slightly disappointing at this price point. Long finish with smooth tannins. Very good wine which is quite approachable at this time. (2856 views)
Tasted by Wine_lvr on 2/10/2014 & rated 90 points: Tasted blind: Deep red. Nose of 'Mon Cherie' chocolate, quite alcoholic. Same story continues on the palate...sweetness, alcohol and dark fruit. Overall a very well "made" wine... but just a bit too much of everything. Decant for 3 hours of wait... (2993 views)
Tasted by dlcass on 2/1/2014 & rated 97 points: Nice aromatics of dark berries, anise, menthol; integrated; beautiful wine (2621 views)
Tasted by NomadicEntrepreneur on 2/16/2013 & rated 93 points: Huge, like motor oil. Decant for an hour. (3159 views)
Tasted by gesusser on 2/15/2013 & rated 93 points: 2 hour decant = huge long legged nicely rounded red; pricey but excellent; finished last glass 4 nights later & still nice quaff (1833 views)
Tasted by richsd on 12/24/2012 & rated 92 points: Sloan Asterisk is a great wine. Not cheap but much more reasonable than the top Sloan cab and I think they have done a great job with this wine. This vintage is drinking well. I have been opening this vintage regularly over the last two years and it has been great each time. Always a crowd pleaser. Best with an hour or two of decanting but possible to open and go if you want. (1819 views)
Tasted by sayward on 12/22/2012 & rated 93 points: Decanted for 2 hours and brought to a restaurant. Asked to have the wine decanted further and we started to consume it after 3 hours. It was doing pretty well at this point and I was not thinking that it required additional decanting (but certainly wouldn't hurt). You can smell the blend on the nose. A very nice wine for the price, but not quite a bargain. (1628 views)
Tasted by richsd on 11/24/2012 & rated 92 points: Always consistent. Decant for about an hour. (1575 views)
Tasted by NomadicEntrepreneur on 9/5/2011 & rated 94 points: OMG. Huge. Oil huge, but good after 90 mins decanting. Could use 90 more. (2521 views)

Red Bordeaux Blend

Red Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.

Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
