Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 91 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 89 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by KVM on 5/6/2024: Deep yellow to gold. Apple, vanilla oak nose . Definitely maturing, and doing so with class. Spicy oak, honey, lime peel. Almost oily, medium body, and correct acid. Long finish of baked apple, mineral tang and oak spice. What a wonderful dozen bottles this has been! (134 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 2/21/2024 & rated 90 points: Tasting. Ripe and floral start with ripe stone and orchard fruit, showing plenty of energy. (477 views)
Tasted by Genghis88 on 7/20/2023 & rated 91 points: *** See previous notes

It has become richer, rounder, more full bodied.
Some battery popcorn notes off the nose. Some melon.
Tastes like the nose, with a medium finish. Lemon curd notes are also noted. Someone mentioned creaminess. Perfect description.

Pretty good. I would not store any longer. DRINK NOW!

GRILLED BBQ chicken thighs for dinner (667 views)
Tasted by godx on 6/26/2023 & rated 91 points: Osoyoos 2023; 6/25/2023-7/5/2023: Another clean/fresh 2009. I’ve had a few bottles of this and it drinks very well now right. Some citrus here but more orchard fruit compared to the 09 Roulot. Despite having a richer profile, the wine seems quite fresh and energetic with excellent acidity. 91-92 (641 views)
Tasted by beatles on 12/2/2022 & rated 94 points: Great, great showing tonight. Layer upon layer og bright citrus-fruit, sexy creaminess, a real luxuryfeel, mature but in no way declining.

Tasted by T.E.D. on 11/27/2022 & rated 91 points: My 2nd bottle since 2016. Definitely showing more age, roundness and bulk. More rich fruit, silky nut, with hints of vanilla bean and curd. Style very slice and well however leaning towards a more aged and heavier style of Chardonnay. (819 views)
Tasted by Genghis88 on 12/25/2021 & rated 90 points: Rich gold in color.
Decanted and drank over four hours
Some citrus notes. Oyster shell, some sea.breeze
Acidity is still there. Lots of melon peel notes. Medium finish
Unripe yellow apple. Very nice wine and in its zone. Was great with Chinese takeout. (1267 views)
Tasted by NBouras915 on 12/24/2021 & rated 50 points: Dead as a doornail. Bought recently from a respected merchant. Cork was in good shape. (942 views)
Tasted by beatles on 7/11/2021 & rated 93 points: Stil very good freshness her, allthough mature, I think. Bright acidity, citrus, butter, very sound and well balanced. Ib guessed a warm year - 2015, 2010 - and then 09. He nailed the cuvée.
#Ib&Pia #Kandestederne (1791 views)
Tasted by King Julien on 6/23/2021 & rated 93 points: Popped and poured, quite nice. (988 views)
Tasted by Elpaninaro on 4/3/2021: good yellow-gold mature color, rich tropical nose, lemon custard, on the palate creamy and racy with a fine long persistent finish, lime tones, decadent and very fruit-driven showing none of that earthy coffee-ground like note that is particular to this vineyard, a large tasting so I could not give it the attention I did my last bottle but overall while this was still showing well it was a bit further along than I expected, still a fan but now less certain of the potential for decades of staying power, time will tell and I look forward to the journey.

****+, now to 2030+ (1386 views)
Tasted by walkerjfw on 11/14/2020 & rated 93 points: Incredible "Gastro Pub" Dinner hosted by the Davidges (Princeton, NJ): First wine of the evening, served with a light version of pea soup (excellent) . Bottles in my cellar from release. Chilled, splash decant about 30 minutes prior to serving.

From notes in 2018: "Golden straw color. Nose has floral, pear and slight roasted or hazelnut aroma. Flavors of honey, citrus, medium oak. Lemon pie and smokiness are the signature on the mid and back palate..."

Great texture and depth. Rich and slightly buttery, great secondary notes of citrus, marzipan (?). Full bodied white, medium finish.

In a great spot, should go for a while but not likely to improve from here. Great showing on this evening (1266 views)
Tasted by beatles on 7/29/2020 & rated 93 points: Still very much going strong - and better on day 2. Creamy, rich, butter galore, precise acidity, good minerality - CP guessed 2010, goes to show.
#Kandestederne #C&S (1708 views)
Tasted by Nojomoschwa on 6/4/2020 & rated 91 points: Very nice wine. I feel like the critical reviews are about right on this one. The nose in particular was lovely and complex, but the palate let the side down a little perhaps. It still feels very young; there are just traces of development. Not oxidized (in a bad way) at all. Fairly fat and rich, but with an incisive, savory finish. Felt a little one-dimensional and shy, even with air and at a fairly warm temperature. Maybe just needs more time? Anyway, it is very nice, and if you have some, maybe open a bottle now to check in on it, but I susupect this will be better in 3-5 years. (1025 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 2/8/2020 & rated 89 points: Acker Merrall Bicentennial Gala (Cipriani Wall Street - New York NY): Small glass, brief note. From 3L. ripe peach and apple with some lemon curd. Ripe and starting to mature with moderate energy. Good density. A vintage to enjoy over the next few years. (2172 views)
Tasted by KVM on 12/31/2019: The oak is generous but not out of balance with the anise and apple flavours. Vital, rich and delicious. (1278 views)
Tasted by KVM on 11/4/2019: Medium yellow. Better at 18 degrees. Anise, pear, toasted grain nose. There is honey and pear on the viscous and complex palate. Mature, but no oxidative notes. (1145 views)
Tasted by Louvin on 10/5/2019 & rated 93 points: short decant and it seems to start slow as some golden color and somewhat oxidized notes seem to emerge, however open seems to bring this back into a correct mode, rich and well balanced, no obvious probllems and great as a match to lobster with the richness, just lovely. (1017 views)
Tasted by KVM on 5/11/2019: High quality natural cork. Medium yellow. Redolent of anise, lemon and anise. Beautiful. (1249 views)
Tasted by Geoff7777 on 1/22/2019: Conventionally oxidised. No apple cider aromas. No brown colour. Seems like it would have always been in the rich side of the spectrum, abundant oak, late picked and caramelised fruit.
Update Day 3. Cork replaced and put in the refrigerator. WTF! Paler in colour. The usual broader fruit profile of Beaune but so much fresher. Fat, sweet apple, quince and pears. Long citrus finish. So much extract, classic white wine for red wine drinkers thing, and needs food, pork not fish. Is this the same wine I opened three days ago? Be warned and decant! (1340 views)
Tasted by BradE on 12/24/2018: This was a hit with the crew tonight. Very full bodied, expressive. I liked it, the family loved it. (1362 views)
Tasted by walkerjfw on 10/13/2018 & rated 94 points: Dinner with PSS Friends (Chez Walker - Princeton, NJ): Second wine of the evening. Medium chill, slow oxed for about 30 minutes, drank next to an 11 Aubert UV-SL Chardonnay. Been a few years since I have had this.

Consistent with prior notes:" Golden straw color. Nose has floral, pear and slight roasted or hazelnut aroma. Flavors of honey, citrus, medium oak. Lemon pie and smokiness are the signature on the mid and back palate..."

Still crisp and energetic wine, best guess is should drink at this level for another 5 years. Great stuff, aging gracefully (1622 views)
Tasted by biggie on 9/17/2018 & rated 95 points: Absolutely stunning! Power, richness but delicacy too. Balanced acidity with the lemon curd, toastiness, and white peach. So much going on here and still so vibrant and young. (1296 views)
Tasted by KVM on 5/10/2018: Young and fresh (1523 views)
Tasted by Callum's Corkers on 1/10/2018 & rated 94 points: Bought approx 50 euros Le Clerc supermarket, Oct 2017, Flers, Orne, France. Tasted only lightly chilled, about 13c. Cork seal.

Surprisingly old-fashioned (lots of oak!) excellent complex and charming French Chardonnay.

C.....golden, at least advanced Straw. Showing white wine age (but not alarming)

N.....it leaps out of the bottle even before its in the glass! Wow. Intense wood, cream, peaches, buttery - all this reminds me of the 'big' chardonnays in New Zealand in the early 1980s, though obviously this is a teir or two higher in terms of class - toffee, caramel, quince, it's Big and Busy!

T.....Wow again. Old-fashioned (very French) but in a good way. Wood, power, chewy white tannins, chew on a wooden pencil end, buttery, maybe more acid would have been better, a nice roundness, plus a powerful core, not long to go now to maturity (2020?), drinking superbly right now, though. Stops just short of dry.

Tasted again next night....colder, around 8c....softer edges, but still a steely core of fruit, now feels more mature, chalky minerality still obvious, sheer class, still wonderful. One of best Chardonnay I've had.

VFM?.....not cheap at 50 euros, but defo buy again. Good VFM. (1747 views)

Joseph Drouhin

Producer Website

Joseph Drouhin always had a passion for wine, and in 1880 in Burgundy, he founded the independent company that still bears his name. Today, his great grandchildren, Philippe, Véronique, Laurent and Frédéric, run the family-owned company from their ancestors house. Each has their own personality, but together, they share a common passion for the vine and the wine. Day after day, they strive for harmony, the hallmark of Joseph Drouhin wines.

Founded in Beaune in 1880, Maison Joseph Drouhin’s cellars have spread from the historical Cellars of the Dukes of Burgundy and the Kings of France in Beaune (12th-18th centuries) to the Moulin de Vaudon, an 18th Century watermill in Chablis.

A rigorous attention to detail, self-imposed discipline, a desire to learn, a rigorous sense of values, passion and daring, are the qualities that have been handed down through the generations, together with the art of winemaking and a never ending search for quality.

The Joseph Drouhin Domaine was assembled parcel by parcel over the years and today comprises 73 hectares (182.5 acres) of vineyards in Côte de Nuits, Côte de Beaune, Côte Chalonnaise and Chablis. It is one of the most important domains in Burgundy, with more than two thirds of the vineyards classified as Premier and Grand Crus.

Today, the fourth generation is at the helm. Each has his role to play in imposing the Family “ Charter of Excellence”. Charter of Excellence

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio
