Community Tasting Notes (average 94.3 pts. and median of 94 pts. in 158 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Empirate on 9/15/2023 & rated 96 points: Slow ox 2h, paired with grilled beef & portabella mushroom caps. Showed beautifully with still fresh dark fruit, stony minerality, leather, and early tertiary development. Great balance, Medium ++ length.
Holding well, no rush. (747 views)
Tasted by wren460 on 6/17/2023 & rated 92 points: Very dry and tanic. Although I enjoyed it a lot, I continue to think that the wine is somewhat overvalued. This wine should be in the bracket of $120 to $150 range IMHO. Will not live many more years, open it now or in the next couple of years. Iron rust, red fruit, tanic, dry. (954 views)
Tasted by DRob on 4/8/2022: National Championship 2022! (2417 views)
Tasted by slywka7 on 2/26/2022 & rated 95 points: Decanted for an hour and 20 minutes. Aromas of blackberry, currant, dusty berry, lead pencil and wild cherry. Flavors of iron, chocolate, blackberry, currant and black cherry. Ends with a 40+ second finish with chocolate and iron notes. Still tannic. Going to revisit this in an hour. (2190 views)
Tasted by putter520 on 1/2/2022 & rated 94 points: Took a while to open up (2-3 hours) and once did was very nice; Med acid, long finish. (2174 views)
Tasted by annerk on 12/26/2021 & rated 94 points: 50+5+13+18+8 Decanted an hour prior to drinking. Fully integrated, continues to have strong structure that should continue for another five years. Balanced acid and tannin. Fruit is red and black plum, black cherry, black and red raspberry, some currant, blueberry with notes of tea, and presents as valley floor or bench. Concentrated but integrated enough that it's not off-putting. Drink now or hold for 5 years and revisit. I have a feeling that when this one starts going downhill, it will go fast, and don't see it as lasting another 10+. (1818 views)
Tasted by renoprof on 12/18/2021 & rated 95 points: Outstanding - still has plenty of everything in the tank- remaining bottles can lay down another 7-10. (1576 views)
Tasted by wren460 on 6/23/2020 & rated 94 points: Pnp. The wine is great but not amazing. I can see the wine lasting easy 5 more years so no rush. I enjoyed it so much I drank the whole bottle myself while grilling some ribeyes with my golden retriever on my side. I think the wine should be 120-140 usd to be in the right QPR . (3356 views)
Tasted by Empirate on 5/23/2020 & rated 96 points: Red mountain fruit, early summer floral notes, fine structured tannins, good balance, medium + finish. A complete wine with no rough edges. On the young side, seems likely to age gracefully. (2973 views)
Tasted by mdvillaverde on 5/17/2020 & rated 94 points: 71% Cab Sauvignon, 17% Cab Franc, 7% Petit Verdot and 5% Merlot.
14.9% ABV. I let it breathe two hours. Drank over two. Has a deep, opaque purple hue in the glass. Inkly, dark plum, licorice notes. Polished tannins. Had next to the 08 Materium. The Continuum was inkier. (2782 views)
Tasted by Fugu Me on 3/23/2020: If opening now, give this at least two hours of air before serving, but really, this should still be given a few more years in bottle before pulling the cork. This came across as elegant and very pure, but slightly decadent--in a good way--with a fruit-driven palate. Paired excellently with Flannery NY strips. (3251 views)
Tasted by MC2 Wines on 1/9/2020: Another Year, Another Napa (aka Winter in Wineland IV); 1/5/2020-1/11/2020 (Napa/Sonoma California): Wow was this lovely. It's still on the younger side, but 11 years can really make a difference. Still more of the black fruit character. There's this wonderful purity to the wine. Tannins a bit more resolved and so mostly just fruit and floral and a hint delicate and drinking just super well. (4011 views)
Tasted by wallstreet on 12/27/2019 & rated 93 points: This wine is drinking well, it has plenty of life left ! If you drink this now, give it at least 3-5 hours of decant time (2019-2020). Otherwise give it another 5-7 years in the cellar and it will reward ! (1739 views)
Tasted by sonodoc on 12/15/2019 & rated 95 points: Very enjoyable for the last of my 2008 Continuum bottles. (1584 views)
Tasted by Thirsty1 on 12/11/2019: Dark purple. This is my perfect drinking wine. In a great window that will improve with time. Dark hanging berry fruit with secondary notes evolving. Integrated, balanced, beautiful. This has some much time ahead of it, and is drinking excellent now. (1457 views)
Tasted by bubbachumps on 12/11/2019 & rated 97 points: Ken's Killer Napa Cab Night (Casa Tomek): Hitting on all cylinders. Classy nose with notes of Cassis, rich cherry, raspberry, spice box and beautiful subtle oak notes that are additive to the wine. Nearly seamless on the palate, all components of the wine coming together on the palate. Really drinking nicely tonight, and edged out some stiff competition. I minor detraction was a touch of heat on the finish, otherwise an incredibly well balanced bottle. Finished 1 of 6. (1731 views)
Tasted by Elkcims on 12/5/2019 & rated 96 points: From Magnum, 3 hour decant. Consumed over 3 hours with David & Julie
Cassis, tobacco, licorice, and a velvety finish that still has medium tannins 20 second finish. Went great with BBQ Lamb Chops. (1319 views)
Tasted by Red Sox Fan on 11/28/2019 & rated 93 points: Decanted for about 90 minutes. Plum, charcoal, black pepper, medium long finish with tannins that are a too aggressive and astringent. (1209 views)
Tasted by Arch57 on 11/25/2019 & rated 95 points: Brought to J. Gilbert’s (a fantastic steakhouse BTW only $20 corkage) and decanted at the table. I’ve had quite a few Mondavi Reserves over the years and this struck me as very similar effort from Tim Mondavi. I think in 2008 he was still sourcing fruit but he sure made some really good juice. I’m never good at describing detailed flavors so let’s just say it tasted like classic Napa Cabernet and you’ll get what I mean. Long finish that matched our wood grilled center-cut filets perfect. Bottle was finished too fast between me and my wife because it was hard to resist a sip after every bite! (1280 views)
Tasted by jgreco on 5/4/2019 & rated 97 points: 36th Birthday (Noreetuh): Wine #6. The 2008 Continuum features the rich concentrated mountain fruit that Contniuum is known for. An ideal combination of red, black, and blue fruits. This was lovely with a 2.5 hour decant and should drink well for another decade or more. (2391 views)
Tasted by G_H on 3/24/2019 & rated 95 points: Surprisingly sweet for 2008, figs, good length, fun (2189 views)
Tasted by j@$0n p€++y on 3/4/2019 & rated 90 points: Dark fruit, oak, one dimensional, ugggh. Newer releases much better than when they first started. (2111 views)
Tasted by danielbleier on 12/20/2018 & rated 96 points: Consistent with notes of 11/24/2017 (2152 views)
Tasted by Acohen on 10/9/2018 & rated 94 points: Elegant dark fruit with plum, currant and great balance with a long rich finish (2497 views)
Tasted by Trolson on 9/29/2018 & rated 95 points: Phenomenal! Need not say more. (2009 views)

Red Bordeaux Blend

Red Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.

Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

California

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
