Tasted by rnellans on 4/30/2023 & rated 92 points: Tasted alongside a Retour OR pn, which is more my style. Lots of oak, dark cherries, cola in this wine. Quite ripe. Plush. (614 views)
Tasted by stoneb on 11/14/2021 & rated 91 points: Consumed over two nights; much better on first night. Opened up quickly in glass. Good red fruit nose and palate finishing with some earth and oak. Tannins fully resolved. Lost considerable freshness on second night. Still an excellent wine, but past peak for me. Drink up. (1190 views)
 Tasted by europat55 on 1/24/2021 & rated 91 points: Nose: B++/A- Palate: B++
My #4, Group's #4 (32 pts), Tasted Blind. (1561 views)
Tasted by buckeye76 on 4/21/2019 & rated 93 points: Still performing well from the glass, Blackberries, raspberries, black cherries, licorice, and some earthiness with hints of spice and herbs. Nice complexity, well balanced, and a medium to long finish. (1991 views)
Tasted by tfesmgk on 5/24/2017 & rated 92 points: Aged well. Much better than first bottle. A little hot but opened well after an hour. (3089 views)
Tasted by tgkswine on 11/27/2016 flawed bottle: Two bottles of the 09 Ritchie were flawed. Disappointing as provenance in my off site cellar they were delivered to has been excellent. An 09 UV-SL was somewhat drinkable but also a great disappointment and pulled at the same time. (3012 views)
Tasted by tfesmgk on 10/28/2016 & rated 89 points: Good nose, nice body, too hot. 15% is too much for a Cali pn. (2726 views)
Tasted by rustyRudy on 10/23/2016 & rated 95 points: Opened, decanted and compared head to head with two other pinots. Raspberry and strawberry fruit, crisp, bright, and held up well against grilled rib eye. Best of the three by a hair. Consistent with recent notes. (2695 views)
Tasted by rustyRudy on 10/16/2016 & rated 95 points: Second glass via Coravin from this bottle. PNP. Drank over an hour with poached wild salmon. I like the Red fruits and it went very well paired with the salmon. Nice by itself afterwards. (2392 views)
Tasted by rustyRudy on 10/15/2016 & rated 94 points: Lots of deep color for a Pinot. Spice, raspberry and minerals on the nose. Nice red fruit, balanced tartness, red licorice and a long finish with a hint of strawberry. This is a big and complex wine but I don't think it is overdone at all. Clearly Californian but very well put together . (1500 views)
Tasted by winelover1808 on 9/18/2016 & rated 89 points: a bit too huge - came across more like a cab or zin styled pinot. i've had aubert pinots that i have loved but this one was just too over the top - its well made and has loads of fruit - just not very recognizable as a pinot nior (1327 views)
Tasted by Kemo Sabe on 7/30/2016 & rated 93 points: Big rich Cali Pinot. Huge wine w 15% alcohol. Good balance and acidity. Feel like this will go for a while. No rush to drink. (1430 views)
Tasted by buckeye76 on 4/8/2016 & rated 93 points: BLACK CHERRIES, OAK, AND COLA IN THE NOSE WITH BLACK CHERRIES, RASPBERRIES AND HINTS OF SPICE IN THE FLAVOR. MEDIUM TO LONG FINISH. (1017 views)
Tasted by davidsm on 11/12/2015 & rated 93 points: Ready to go. (1684 views)
Tasted by jclary on 9/24/2015: drank with Tobie after Ladies of Liberty class (2191 views)
Tasted by Knicksfan on 8/28/2015 & rated 93 points: Love; beautiful fruit, nice long finish; wonderful (1601 views)
Tasted by HRT on 8/11/2014: Lovely dark color. Wonderful aromas of red cherries and dark berries. Long finish. This does down so smoothly. (3441 views)
Tasted by lvjohn on 7/8/2014 & rated 93 points: Delicious and very pure with rich red fruit notes and a wonderful nose. (3050 views)
Tasted by tcosgriff on 1/18/2014 & rated 92 points: I drank this wine way too young. It had a lovely burgundy color. It was still closed with distinct but fairly muted Burgundy fruit and spiciness. It was a big wine with tannins still in evidence. It should become much better with further aging. (3012 views)
Tasted by winelover1808 on 10/5/2013 & rated 93 points: great expressive nose. lots of fruit but some nice acidity as well. last time I had an Aubert pinot I recall it being a bit too much on the alcohol side - almost too jammy and not elegant. this was unlike that last bottle. it was in balance - very pleasant mouthful, and long seamless finish. My wife and I enjoyed this quite a lot. (3144 views)
Tasted by rhialto on 7/29/2013 & rated 92 points: Excellent. Second night as good or better than first. (3123 views)
 Tasted by tp096255 on 5/1/2013 & rated 91 points: ---
COLOR: Lovely, translucent but deep purplish-garnet
NOTE: Looks and smells beautiful, but the mouth and finish just aren't there. Nose is red-fruit driven with pomegranate and ripe red raspberries, some strawberry liqueur, hint of cinnamon and heat. Mouth has good red fruit flavors as well, nice acidity, ripe tannins but not a lot of dimensions. Starts to become cherry cough syrup toward the end and into the finish. Finish has noticeable heat as well.

Tasted by oeno1820 on 4/16/2012 & rated 92 points: Powerful flavor, but more of a punch without nuance. Needs another year or two. (3274 views)
Tasted by shadow on 11/19/2011 & rated 93 points: Just got these this week, had to see what was up.
So far, lots of potential, easy to drink, Burgundy nose, Burundian profile, touch of heat on the finish, will get better. (4267 views)

Pinot Noir

Varietal character (Appellation America) | Varietal article (Wikipedia)
Pinot Noir is the Noble red grape of Burgundy, capable of ripening in a cooler climate, which Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot will not reliably do. It is unpredictable and difficult both to grow and to vinify, but results in some of the finest reds in the world. It is believed to have been selected from wild vines two thousand years ago. It is also used in the production of champagne. In fact, more Pinot Noir goes into Champagne than is used in all of the Cote d'Or! It is also grown in Alsace, Jura, Germany, the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Romania, Switzerland, Austria, Croatia, Serbia, Italy, and so forth, with varying degrees of success.

Pinot Noir is one of the world's most prestigious grapes. It is very difficult to grow and thrives well in France, especially in Champagne and Burgundy. Pinot Noir thrives less in hot areas, is picky on soil, and deserves some oak storage.

Pinot Noir, or Blauburgunder / Spätburgunder in German, is a blue grapevine - and, as the German name suggests, the grape comes originally from Burgundy in France.

The grape, which thrives in calcareous soils, is used primarily for the production of red wine, and it is widely regarded as producing some of the best wines in the world. The wine style is often medium-bodied with high fruit acidity and soft tannins. It can be quite peculiar in fragrance and taste, and not least in structure - which may be why it is referred to as "The Grapes Ballerina".
Pinot Noir is also an important ingredient in sparkling wines, not least in champagne since it is fruity, has good acidity and contains relatively little tannins.
The grape is considered quite demanding to grow. The class itself consists of tightly packed grapes, which makes it more sensitive to rot and other diseases.

Pinot Noir changes quite easily and is genetically unstable. It buds and matures early which results in it often being well ripened. Climate is important for this type of grape. It likes best in cool climates - in warm climates the wines can be relaxed and slightly pickled.
In cooler climates, the wine can get a hint of cabbage and wet leaves, while in slightly warmer regions we often find notes of red berries (cherries, strawberries, raspberries, currants), roses and slightly green notes when the wine is young. With age, more complex aromas of forest floor, fungi and meat emerge.

In Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Hungary, it often produces light wines with less character. However, it has produced very good results in California, Oregon and New Zealand.

With its soft tannins and delicate aroma, it is excellent for white fish, chicken and light meat. For the stored wines you can serve small game. Classic duck breast is a matter of course, a Boeuf Burgundy and Pinot Noir are pure happiness.

Pinot Noir loses quality by over-harvesting.
Pinot Noir is prone to diseases, especially rot and mildew. Viruses cause major problems especially in Burgundy.
Pinot Noir are large round grapes with thin skins. Relatively high in alcohol content. Medium rich tannins and good with acid.
As a young person, Pinot Noir has a distinctly fruity character such as raspberries, cherries and strawberries.
A mature Pinot Noir, the taste is different. Cherry goes into plum and prune flavors. It smells of rotten leaves, coffee, moist forest floor and animal wine. This must be experienced.
In warm climates you find boiled plum, some rustic, little acid.
If the grapes are over-grown, the wine will be thin, with little color and flavor.

Ritchie Vineyard

Ritchie Vineyard is legendary in Russian River Valley, widely regarded as one of the best Chardonnay sites in all of California. The vineyard was first planted in 1972 to a handful of heritage selections, including Old Wente, and sits on a rolling northwest facing hillside in the heart of Russian River Valley, near the intersection of Trenton-Healdsburg and Eastside roads. The unique soil profile, comprised of Goldridge series sandy loam and a layer of volcanic ash deposits, creates wines with great intensity, which exude a rare purity and sense of place. For more than forty years, Kent Ritchie has farmed this vineyard with passion, precision and a loving touch. He pays personal attention to the wishes of each winemaker working with his grapes because, like the best growers in the area, he understands that the relationship is as important as the quality of the finished product that bears his name.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
