This bottle has come together with even, full fruit and seems to be improved from the last one I tried. I sense that some rough edges have been removed and the quality of 2009 is beginning to shine through. (1339 views) | | Tasted by up4wine on 2/6/2016 & rated 87 points: Very ripe, fruit forward. Straight ahead wine with good balance, but not a lot of interesting nuance or range of flavor. Enjoyable, but not memorable. (1306 views) | | Tasted by wilypod on 1/10/2016 & rated 88 points: At its peak, smooth and harmonious, with little tannic astringency. Seems healthy and capable of further aging, but the black and red fruits seem in good balance with acidity and alcohol, but less exuberant than when last tasted a year or so ago. (1340 views) | | Tasted by wabi47 on 6/13/2015 & rated 90 points: Dark and lush; sweet ripe fruit with plenty of clean earth; cassis; enuf acidity to keep it real; so easy to drink (1455 views) | | Tasted by Zweder on 3/11/2015 & rated 89 points: Monthly Tasting Group HWS #097; Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2007 vs 2009 (By RvD): Purple color. In the bouquet cerise, spices, sweet licorice and leather. On the palate cherry liquor chocolates, juicy fruits, a lot of herbs and spices e.g. clove, a touch of sweetness, medium acidity and round tannin with a soft and pleasant bite. This 80% Grenache and 20% Syrah offers an enjoyable and concentrated wine. Ready now and it will drink nicely until at least 2017. (2107 views) | | Tasted by wabi47 on 10/29/2014 & rated 89 points: big ripe fruit forward mixed wild berry; garrigue and a hint of tin on the finish; ABV>15 but only a trace of heat. Worked well with a rustic braised lamb shank (950 views) | | Tasted by slippytoad on 5/19/2014 & rated 88 points: Big licorice (1132 views) | | Tasted by up4wine on 5/3/2014 & rated 89 points: Strong Grenache front end, with subtle floral notes from the Syrah on the finish. Wine seems to have all the right elements, but has not quite come together to be fully integrated. Maybe a little more time in the rack. (1126 views) | | Tasted by slippytoad on 7/20/2013 & rated 92 points: Lush and concentrated. Will probably last quite a while. Nothing complex about this one though, but oh so drinkable. (1391 views) | | Tasted by GoBlue2002 on 7/2/2013 & rated 89 points: Purple in color - with a polarizing nose - I enjoyed it thoroughly, my wife thought "If I had to judge it based on aroma I wouldn't drink it". Very unique set of spices, blackberry, and bramble. The aromas started strong with a PnP from a 56F wine fridge, faded for awhile as the wine warmed, and then returned with more spice after an hour. Tannins are smooth yet I wouldn't call them silky. The finish has good length, but with minimal complexity, which I would say is my chief complaint with this wine. Overall a good wine, but not distinctive enough to warrant a higher score. Drinking well now and certainly can age, although I don't think it will improve much if at all. (1270 views) | | Tasted by cliffkol on 6/1/2013 & rated 89 points: At Sunset Wines. Still very tannic, dry. Needs more time? Or is this it? Deep dark fruits, long finish. (1142 views) | | Tasted by wilypod on 4/23/2013 & rated 88 points: Delicious, gentle monster. Dark garnet wine, lazy aromas between candied raspberry, black pepper and dried roses, a soft mouthful of black fruits, smooth tannins. Big but not overwhelming. Does it have a second life from 2014 on? At least quite fine now. (952 views) | | Tasted by GlassHalfFull on 1/20/2013 & rated 85 points: Lot of fruit, little complexity. (1073 views) | | Tasted by myke on 11/12/2012 & rated 90 points: Still plenty of tannins left! Dark fig,a little rose stem, and leathery (1130 views) | | Tasted by Colia on 10/17/2012 & rated 92 points: Youthful nose of red plums, black cherries, vanilla, and warm baking spices. The palate is still a bit hollow compared to the promise of the nose. Give it two years to put on some weight. (1124 views) | | Tasted by rjonwine@gmail.com on 3/31/2012 & rated 92 points: Dark ruby color; ripe cherry, ripe berry, violets, baked berry nose; tight, appealing, ripe berry, charcoal, mineral, tar palate; needs 1-2 years; medium-plus finish 92+ points (decent value at $23) (1287 views) | | Tasted by syrahz on 1/13/2012 & rated 90 points: This is fairly tannic and needs to age a bit. Dark, full bodied (1713 views) | | Tasted by dekay on 8/10/2011 & rated 89 points: Dark garnet. Muted nose of kirsch and dark berries; luscious up front, but thins a bit toward the finish. Plenty of tannins and acidity to last a number of years. (1579 views) | | Only displaying the 25 most recent notes - click to see all notes for this wine... |
