Tasted by Zed57 on 12/19/2023 & rated 92 points: Great wine. The nose is ethereal. Superb structure. Mineral driven background. Blackberry, raspberry and a touch of cherry and leather. It may have time but I doubt it will get better. (593 views)
Tasted by Xavier Auerbach on 7/2/2023 & rated 91 points: Double magnum. A real powerhouse of a wine in this grand format, concentrated and tannic, with lots of toasty oak but with fruit to match. Impressive and energetic rather than elegant. Unformed. Give it time. (1794 views)
Tasted by Zed57 on 6/25/2023 & rated 91 points: Mature Boudreaux. Smooth food friendly with a great price. Time to drink up. (1086 views)
Tasted by jusuf on 4/28/2023 & rated 89 points: This bottle has passed its top. Short finish which is on top too dry. While nose and paalte remain intact for some 2 hours, they fall apart after that quite rapidly and quite complete. (1242 views)
Tasted by Saadissimo on 12/29/2022 & rated 89 points: Surprisingly good. Decanted for 2 hours and drank at one sitting. Plummy bouquet, soft on the palate with silky tannins. Only knock is that finish could be longer. Was expecting to be underwhelmed but was impressed overall. (1634 views)
Tasted by Juliansi on 9/23/2022 & rated 87 points: Muted nose, light blackberry on the palate and surprisingly the tannins are still not so rounded after 12 years. Some plum and short finish too.

Listrac-Médoc in the Haut Medoc of Bordeaux's left bank is the least prestigious of the appellations, as it is situated in an area of limestone and clay soils (rather than gravel and clay). As the soils are more shallow here, the vine roots do not run very deep. It's classified as Cru Bourgeois.

Thanks for sharing the bottle @Khai, enjoyed at Mikas birthday Chinese dinner.. This magnum was bottle 6 of 10 for our decadent night!

KL, Malaysia - 23 Sep 2022 (1797 views)
Tasted by ChristoBretts on 4/13/2022 & rated 89 points: Decanted and drank over two days. Allowed to breath for three hours before drinking. Medium body. Aroma closed, very little present. Not much to offer the tongue, medium acidity, little fruit, perhaps a touch of tar. No improvement on day two. Underwhelming. Surprising for the vintage where so much potential resides in other producers. (1867 views)
Tasted by jusuf on 4/9/2022 & rated 93 points: Super silky. Very pleasant on the palate. Body is a bit on the light side, so is the nose. However, a great effort of Listrac in a strong year. and as always: Forget wine journalists on small labels in great years. WS gave it a lifeline till 2015. How wrong can these guys be? (1022 views)
Tasted by Papies on 1/21/2022 & rated 89 points: By the glass at L’Ideal 1850 , Megeve. We tried to confirm vintage and when this was opened but we only got a wall of beautiful french shrugged shoulders.
Barring a light dusty feel to story this was a well mannered and rounded wine. Good evolution nice fruit and just effortless. Very pretty generic but good claret. 89 (2050 views)
Tasted by ChristoBretts on 10/17/2021 & rated 90 points: Decanted and drank over two days. Medium body, nose of black fruit and damp soil. Palate includes the same along with graphite, medium-high acidity, tannins settling but are dominated by the acidity. Short finish. Overall enjoyable but I will wait another 3-5 years to pull another of these from the cellar. (2104 views)
Tasted by JTse on 1/20/2021 & rated 91 points: Decant for 3 hours with swirling the decanter every 30 minutes. Drank from a magnum. Became more integrated as time went on. Acidity and tannins were balanced but lacking smoothness. Fruit seems somewhat subdued. A great wine to start off before pulling out the big guns. Will come back to it in about 5 years to check on its development. (2905 views)
(3099 views)
Tasted by ChristoBretts on 11/3/2020 & rated 90 points: Decanted over two days. Medium body. Nose somewhat open with fruit, dark fruit and RR tie. Palate a bit tannic on day one with underlying dark fruit, less tannic on the second day with more fruit. I think this will will get somewhat better over two years or so, still very approachable now, however. (2602 views)
Tasted by Marius Cavasdan on 10/23/2020 & rated 90 points: Deep core color with some brick edge. Nose with ripe fruits. Black currants and cherries. Some plums. With spice, leather from the oak aging. Palate with the same fruits. Ripe. Tannins still present and keep it fresh. Good wine from an excellent vintage (2395 views)
Tasted by ChristoBretts on 9/5/2020 & rated 92 points: Decanted over two days. Medium body. Generous oak and cigar smoke on the nose and palate on first day. Second day is best, with smoke blowing off a bit, leaving cedar and cigar box at just the right amount. A speck of anise. Good black fruit still showing through and tannins well integrated. Very enjoyable, good value. (2280 views)
Tasted by ChristopherB on 9/4/2020 & rated 90 points: Tasted a glass at the restaurant "M". Nice medium dark ruby - no bricking. On the nose, aromas of tobacco, plums and cherry. On the palate, the attack is frank, with the aromas as found on the nose with added red currant, with a medium concentration. A medium length with lots of rounded tannins. In my book, this is good to go, and a rather good example of Clarke. 90

A trip down memory lane (the first Bordeaux I ever tasted, vintages '81 and '82 - 30 or so years ago)... (1525 views)

Tasted by beekeeper on 8/20/2020 & rated 90 points: More depth than expected. Just beginning to show it’s stuff. (1323 views)
Tasted by Vino_MN on 8/11/2020 & rated 91 points: PNP with some grilled burgers and potato’s. I’m usually not much of a French fan but this pleasantly surprised me. Rich dark color and a strong tobacco nose along with nice even tannins made this a pleasure to drink. Blackberry with some licorice on the initial taste and it began to open in the glass (Grassl 1855) to more cherry flavors with a hint of vanilla. Very nice and seems like it could age a few more years and still be very good. I’d buy it again. (1224 views)
Tasted by Chateau-de-Plonk on 6/26/2020 & rated 90 points: Decanted for 90 mins.
Classic merlot dominated Bordeaux nose. Plush and tobaccoey, stewed plums. The nose suggested more development than on the palate, which was still fairly structured, with slightly spikey tannins
Nice mineral notes with all of the red fruit and tobacco mix but the flavours on the palate were not hugely generous.

This was enjoyable and shows real quality but it still seems young. It could really hit its stride in 5 years time. (1253 views)
Tasted by RD59 on 6/13/2020 & rated 90 points: Needs 1 hour devant, opened up beautifully after 45-60 or so. Deep colour still, eucalyptus, anis, blueberries just little lightweight but quite enjoyable. (1391 views)
Tasted by ChristoBretts on 4/25/2020 & rated 91 points: Decanted for two hours prior to tasting. Medium to full, but more medium. Great nose of purple fruit with a hint of tar. Palate of wet granite and still lively tannins that are balanced with the granite. Plenty of fruit left in this wine. Can be enjoyed now or likely for a good five or more years to some. (1586 views)
Tasted by eyewino on 3/26/2020 & rated 93 points: Fantastic! Deep crimson in the glass. Plumb, red fruit, Earth, graphite, and menthol bombard the nose immediately. Smooth mid-palate and bone-dry tannins lead to a long finish. This is really rocking right now. Drink and enjoy or hold for maybe a couple more years. (1671 views)
Tasted by loganchambers on 12/24/2019 & rated 90 points: Magnum, decanted ~60 mins before serving with reverse seared tomahawk steak on Xmas eve. Based on other reviews, i wasn’t expecting greatness, but hoped for it. Good quality overall, but only solid. Blackberry, bit of graphite...all the classic marks but only as expected. (2070 views)
Tasted by SiR on 12/24/2019 & rated 90 points: Magnum - 13% - Clear, med to deep garnet / clean, med to pronounced intensity - blackcurrant, sandalwood, spice box, eucalyptus, pencil shavings, leathery / dry, med+ acidity, med+ fine grained tannin, , med body, pronounced intensity, med+ length. Classic left Bank Bordeaux, not much sign of aging (could be forgotten another 5-7 years). (1851 views)

Red Bordeaux Blend

Red Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.

Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.

History of Bordeaux

History of 1855 Bordeaux Classification

"2009 is all about ripeness, with wines impressively packed with ripe fruit and high alcohol levels. They are showy, in-your-face, and full of pleasure. The 2010s have the fruit and alcohol levels of the 2009s, but with a compelling freshness on the finish that balances the fruit and provides a perfect sense of structure." - Ben Nelson

"2016 is a landmark vintage in certain spots of Bordeaux and it should be remembered as one of the most inspired campaigns of the last 40-50+ years." -Jon Rimmerman
"The quality of red Bordeaux in 2016 was universally lauded – although the response to the en primeur campaign was muted. Quantity was high too, with the equivalent of 770 million bottles of wine produced. An exceptionally dry summer with cool nights eventually, thanks to mid September rain, resulted in small, thick-skinned, ripe grapes, and the wines are marked by high tannin and acidity, with superb aromatic fragrance." - Jancis Robinson

"2017 was complicated, but there are some excellent wines. Expect plenty of freshness and drinkability from wines that will offer excellent value, and others that will rival 2016 in terms of ripeness and ageability. But they are likely to be the exception not the rule, making careful selection key." - Jane Anson

"In the past, a vintage such as 2022 may have been overripe, raisined and low in acidity but 2022 had a sneaky little reservoir in its back pocket - a near perfect marriage of cool/cold/rain the previous winter and the previous vintage that literally soaked the soils (a key to why 2022 is not 2003...or 1893)." - Jon Rimmerman

VdB

The eight precisely defined appellations of the whole of the Médoc (from Blanquefort Brook to the north of the Bordeaux built-up area, almost to the Pointe de Grave) may claim the Médoc appellation. But there is also a specific territory in the north of the peninsula which produces exclusively wines with this appellation. In the great majority, the Médocs come from the north of the peninsula. The great individuality of this region is that the number of vines has increased more recently here than elsewhere, apart from a few isolated spots where vines have grown for many years. Today, the size of the small estate has brought about the development of a powerful co-operative movement. Four co-operatives out of five belong to the group called Unimédoc which ensures aging, bottling and marketing a large proportion of their wines.

Listrac-Médoc

Already very famous in the eighteenth century, the commune came back into favour again at the beginning of this century.
In 1913, Listrac, with 1,380 hectares of vines, was one of the largest vine-growing communes in the Médoc peninsula. The crisis of the thirties toppled this balance.

The history of the Listrac AOC is intimately bound to that of a group of men who managed to get the fame of their wines recognized in 1957 by obtaining the status of appellation of controlled origin. So Listrac-Médoc became one of the six communal appellations in the Médoc thanks to the distinctive individuality and the fame of its wines.

Lying between Moulis and Saint-Julien, Listrac is the "roof of the Médoc" and rises majestically to a height of 43 metres. Three magnificent ridges of Pyrenees gravel on the west, a ridge of Garonne gravel on the east and a central plain on a bed of limestone make up the richness of this terroir, akin to that of Moulis; whence an affinity in the wines which often links the two appellations together in the minds of wine lovers.
The natural slopes ensure that the soils drain well. The relative coolness of the climate together with its windy situation close to the forest favours the slow, even ripening process so propitious to great wines. The majority of the gravelly ridges are planted with Cabernet-Sauvignons which give Listrac wine all its impetuosity whereas on the limestone plateau, the Merlot predominates filling the wines with its fruit and fleshiness.

In the mouth, the wine of Listrac has extraordinary volume filling the palate. It is always present. Well structured, it is the perfect blend of the fruit of the Cabernet and the power of the Merlot. It is full and silky, a blend of spirit and virility.
Its colour takes on a ruby tint with the passing of time. The different elements melt into one another to give, finally, a velvety, full and fleshy wine.

In order to have the right to the Listrac-Médoc appellation of controlled origin, red wines must:

- come from the commune of Listrac "excluding the land which by the nature of its soil or because of its situation, is unfit to produce wine of this appellation"
- satisfy precise production conditions : grape-varieties (Cabernet-Sauvignon, Cabernet-Franc, Carmenère, Merlot Noir, Petit Verdot, Cot or Malbec), minimum of sugar (178 grammes - 6.27 oz. - per litre of must) degree (an acquired 10°5) base yield (45 hectolitres per hectare).
