Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 85.2 pts. and median of 87 pts. in 25 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Carmen400 on 11/20/2014 & rated 85 points: Spicy bite, medium crimson color, thin legs, drinks nicely with Swiss cheese and crackers. No after taste, medium depth. (3961 views)
Tasted by WaltnMicki on 10/20/2014 & rated 88 points: Even better the second time around. Opens up nicely and does have the chocolate overtones. Nice garnet color. Slight spicy bite went away after letting it breathe for 30 minutes. (3876 views)
Tasted by WaltnMicki on 8/16/2014 & rated 87 points: Nice complexities blending a slight sweet with a bit of tartness and a mild bite. Medium body with crisp red color and cherry nose. Nicely complimented fillet mignon. (4126 views)
Tasted by Magpied on 8/18/2012 & rated 81 points: Perfumed ripe mulberry, stewed fruit nose, toasty oak

Palate was a bit of a let down after the nose. Nice soft texture but fruit a bit lacklustre, acidity sticks out. Not bad but just not great, might be better in 12 months but will not go out of my way to find out. (7833 views)
Tasted by 321Nomad on 1/10/2012: Average in all aspects (8709 views)
Tasted by rrschrumjr on 11/7/2011 & rated 86 points: A big dessert-y nose, with berry cobbler and dark fruits. In the palate, I picked up tartness at the front that faded to sweetness. Under-ripe cherries and berries along with some forest floor and leaves also feature on the palate. Noteworthy tannins and a tiny bit of chocolate at the end.

This bottle could also stand to sit on the rack for a little while longer, but the grapes don't seem to be of super-high quality. They show relatively well here; I don't think this bottle has a long shelf life. (5801 views)

Cabernet-Shiraz Blend

A very popular blend in Australia-particularly from South Australia, where the two varietals work well together. The most famous of these would be the Penfolds Bin 389, considered Australia's most cellared wine. In years gone by this was referred to as "Baby Grange" as some of the wine used barrels from the vintage of Grange.

The 2018 Paternus states only McLaren Vale Shiraz (no Cab Sav).
