Tasted by WinePT on 5/24/2017 & rated 89 points: Dark fruits with a hint of red fruits at times, vanilla, earth, Smooth soft tannins. This is in a great place right now. Great value from Virginia. (1645 views)
Tasted by Lightenup on 3/19/2017 & rated 91 points: Purchased from the winery soon after release and cellared at 55-57. Cork was not long and halfway wet but the wine was fine. Cab Franc provides a firm backbone for this blend. Whatever the cost may have been it was a fine value and enjoyed. (1825 views)
Tasted by cpdwines on 4/30/2016 & rated 89 points: Nice Bordeaux style wine. (2199 views)
Tasted by Arthur4wine on 3/27/2016 & rated 88 points: I liked this wine. It has a strong green pepper taste. That is the Cab Franc coming out. I drank it over the course of an evening and served it with steak. It held up to the steak and was a nice complement to the mea. As the wine opened up the bitter pepper taste (this is not necessarily bad) diminished and it started to taste more like a traditional red wine. Also, I like the winery, they are dog friendly.  Tasted by ericindc on 11/24/2015 & rated 79 points: Not sure about this. From 1/2 bottle. Strong cedar and pine on the nose masking just about all else. medium body, moderate drying tannins, moderate acidity. I think its getting a good amount of tertiary flavors.... if that is all cedar. Strong woody green pine, light black fruit, licorice, strong bitterness, and finish with some black tar.

Frankly way too much pine/cedar. It dominates the wine with the bitterness secondary. It got worse as it sat. I guess drink this young? (2173 views)
Tasted by Sijan on 10/17/2015 & rated 88 points: This is the V8 Juice of wines; it tastes like a vegetable garden. Very earthy & herbal. Not much fruit. Old World for sure. Light-to-medium bodied.

Would be good w/ much autumn/winter fare, such as braised meats & stews. (773 views)
Tasted by grayfont on 8/14/2015 & rated 88 points: Ultra earthy with a nice peppery finish. Clearly from Virginia - it has the trademark "thin" quality - but among its peers it is a big winner. Better from the bottle than it was after air in the decanter. (919 views)
Tasted by sfraser44 on 7/11/2015 & rated 87 points: Has a very smoky taste with hints gauze. Very palatable (548 views)
Tasted by WinePT on 3/1/2014 & rated 87 points: Flavors of plum and dark fruit, tobacco, earth, with a touch of vanilla oak. Smooth, lighter bodied Bordeaux style blend. Medium tannins. I've found that Boxwood wines require a few years for the tannins to integrate. Tasted over 3 days. (995 views)
Tasted by Gaston4me on 12/1/2012 & rated 86 points: A smooth wine that is dry and full of rich fruit flavors. (1288 views)
Tasted by The_Grey_Fox on 11/18/2012 & rated 84 points: Very poor bottle when you consider what else you could get for the price. (1060 views)
Tasted by manonthemoon on 11/17/2012 & rated 87 points: Small blind taste.
menthol, smoke, black fruit, and tobacco notes. (1087 views)
Tasted by rjonwine@gmail.com on 7/22/2011 & rated 88 points: Virginia Wines from 2011 Wine Bloggers Conference; 7/22/2011-7/24/2011 (Omni Hotel, Charlottesville; Monticello; and Pollak and Veritas Tasting Rooms, Virginia): Dark red violet color; redolent, plum, tart plum, black fruit, oak nose; tasty, Bordeaux superieur-like, tart plum, black fruit, herbaceous palate; medium-plus finish (1673 views)

Sommelier Journal, October 31, 2010
(Boxwood Topiary) A blend of 42% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Merlot, and 16% Petit Verdot, this wine is intense purple in color, with an abundant nose of dark fruits, sweet tobacco, and graphite. Blackberry flavors emerge on the long, concentrated palate, well structured with ripe tannins. Meet Virginia

Red Bordeaux Blend

Red Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.

Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.
