Tasted by SLOFred on 8/30/2014 & rated 90 points: For whatever reason, although I have had others of these, this was an exceptional bottle. (2598 views)
Tasted by SLOFred on 8/26/2014 & rated 88 points: Not at all bad for $11. But is good because of the aging. (2559 views)
Tasted by SLOFred on 8/23/2014 & rated 87 points: Nice bottle. Time has served it well, but need to drink what is left. (2582 views)
Tasted by SLOFred on 7/4/2014 & rated 89 points: There are some real finds in these Kirkland wines if you buy and age a few years. this is no exception at $11 (2690 views)
Tasted by SLOFred on 6/2/2014 & rated 88 points: Great wine for the price. Wonderful cherry and blueberry flavor. A real keeper. (2839 views)
Tasted by SLOFred on 4/30/2014 & rated 86 points: Good QPR. Drink it now. For $11, well worth it. (997 views)
Tasted by Roget on 12/27/2013 & rated 87 points: Very good, but not quite as good as I remember previous bottles. Don't think Costco still carries this one. (1241 views)
Tasted by csimmons on 3/15/2013 & rated 87 points: Good QPR - PNP. Was better the second day than the first. (2063 views)
Tasted by csimmons on 2/6/2013 & rated 86 points: As usual a good PNP standby. Great value for the price. (2038 views)
Tasted by sambuca on 7/9/2012 & rated 86 points: Not as good as the 2007. Still very drinkable and a decent effort from Costco. (3027 views)
Tasted by Avid Wino on 2/17/2012 & rated 83 points: Nice sweet vanilla oak nose, but you pay the price on the palate, where you get a mouthful of wood, plus cherry, dark berries, and tea. Quite tannic. (3053 views)
Tasted by WineRay05 on 1/15/2012 & rated 90 points: Really enjoyed this wine. Lots of red and black fruits. Great qpr. (2968 views)
Tasted by dg1 on 12/17/2011 & rated 81 points: Has totally fallen apart. Now dull and boring, disappointed I bought 3 bottles, each one got worse (2436 views)
Tasted by daniel.jay on 11/7/2011 & rated 87 points: This is a very nice weekday bottle at a great price and excellent qpr. Of course it's best attribute is also its biggest shortcoming - nothing is out of balance, at the same time nothing shines as exemplary. Drinks easy, tastes nice but doesn't leave a lasting impression. (2828 views)
Tasted by PIntag on 9/30/2011 & rated 85 points: Again, a decent wine at a very good price. (2570 views)
Tasted by snowbear on 9/26/2011 & rated 88 points: - Crimsom color - Very nice at a good price (2640 views)
Tasted by dg1 on 9/25/2011 & rated 86 points: Different than my last bottle, now no heat , but lighter. Tea flavors and some complexity, but a bit too light now. (2605 views)
Tasted by marksfamily on 9/25/2011 & rated 80 points: Very pretty garnet / purple. Smooth nose of cherry, plum, flint, wet gravel. Taste is cherry, plum, stone fruit. Very fruit-forward with a smooth finish; very light tannins. Good weeknight wine with a steak or chops; very flat by day two. (2621 views)
Tasted by dayoff53 on 9/12/2011 & rated 88 points: I won't go into a lot of detail on this right now other than to say that I found it a very good Bordeaux blend - big California fruit up front; nice full, round mouth feel and moderately long finish. Not fantastic, but very good and outstanding QPR. I'd expect this to keep nicely for another 4 or 5 years and I'll be looking for more on my next Costco run. (3647 views)
Tasted by dg1 on 8/25/2011 & rated 88 points: I'm a big van of Meritage and this one delivers. Nice dark berry hints with a long earthy finish. Opened for about an hour and was about right. Was not good the next day. Its just a bit too hot in the middle to get over 89. Might do better in a year or two as that settles down. Can't complain about the price. Great QPR. (2667 views)
Tasted by PIntag on 8/24/2011 & rated 85 points: Again noticed some nice tea and herbal flavors in the first glass. Also got some vanilla, which I'm not that fond of, this time around. Good quaffer with decent QPR. (2568 views)
Tasted by PIntag on 8/21/2011 & rated 85 points: Pop 'n pour. A simple ripe and juicy red wine. An interesting and enjoyable tea flavor dominated when first opened but, sadly, lessened with air. (2572 views)

Red Bordeaux Blend

Red Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.

Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.

The Meritage Association

What Is Meritage?
In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify hand-crafted wines blended from the traditional "noble" Bordeaux varietals including: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot and Malbec or Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, and Sauvignon Vert."Meritage," pronounced like "heritage," was selected from more than 6,000 entries in an international contest to name the new wine category. Meritage is an invented word that combines "merit" and "heritage" - reflecting the spirit of members of The Meritage Association. Meritage® is a registered trademark of The Meritage Association. USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
