Tasted by Andrew67 on 2/26/2024: Medium - full bodied. Blackberry, plum, chocolate, tobacco on the palate. Fine grained tannins and bright acidity give the wine a freshness. Long finish. Lovely. (155 views)
Tasted by foyfrcs on 8/19/2023 & rated 92 points: Revisited a couple of years down the line.
Still drinking very well.
Figs, prunes, raisins, damsons nose & palate.
Full bodied, beautifully balanced, well integrated tannins and long finish.
I would still give this 5+ years. (352 views)
Tasted by WojteG on 3/10/2023 & rated 87 points: Drinking this wine, I wonder if my sense of taste is out of this world... because

But... if you had Apothic Red then this wine is the same but on steroids. Apothic 13.5% versus 15.1%. I have nothing against high alcohol in wine matter of fact I like Amorone.
But... In this case your tongue feels alcohol. I have nothing against alcohol.
But... there's 100 pounds gorilla made of sugar. You almost feel its crystal between your teeth.
I can understand that there are people who like dry wines full of sweetness, but I can't understand why you can like wine in which alcohol pushes to the first place. (681 views)
Tasted by Condrieu82 on 8/13/2022 & rated 94 points: Wow. What a wine!

Dark ruby color, long legs. Super expressive nose of blueberries, blackberries, anise, smoked wood, forest floor undertones - a lot going on in here.

The palate has a nice balance, great structure: lots of black fruits, oaky vanilla, anise. Lots of fruit, but not in an overpowering way. Fresh, round. Smoked meat.

Tannins are almost wholly integrated, and the finish (with nice, sweet vanilla notes) is medium-long.

This is an amazing wine. Balanced, complex, great by itself and with good alike. Such a great purchase - even better given the price point! (1076 views)
Tasted by wineismylife on 2/4/2022 & rated 92 points: WIML92

Tasted non blind.

Dark garnet color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of camphor, currants, plums and black cherries. Flavors of black cherries, plums and currants. Medium acidity, medium tannin, full bodied. Drink now with air or continue to hold. (1496 views)
Tasted by foyfrcs on 9/9/2021 & rated 92 points: Not a great deal to add to last years tasting note.
15.1% alcohol.
Some figs/prunes as well.
Outstanding wine, still drinking well and 4/5+ years longevity. (1394 views)
Tasted by RBurgundy99 on 9/4/2021 & rated 94 points: Agree with all the recent notes, and especially that this has miles to go before it sleeps. I will be waiting a long time to drink the 2018 I just bought... (1277 views)
Tasted by rjpbath on 9/3/2021 & rated 92 points: I LOVE this monster. I could not drink this more than two or three times a year but on that basis it is magnificent. SO long and so true to cab/Shiraz. Caramel and velvet. Wow. …and it will last for years and years (1079 views)
Tasted by Dalcellar on 6/19/2021: Delicious (914 views)
Tasted by NoTrollingerPlease on 1/17/2021 & rated 90 points: Glass: Riedel Vinum Syrah
Popped and poured, not decanted. Drunk over 10 days. Clear, deep ruby color. Clean, medium intense, developing nose with some lactic notes, yoghurt, lots of dark/red fruit, speck, smoke. Dense and bold.
Dry, medium+/high acidity. 15,1% abv, not too hot, but noticeable. Medium+, silky tannin. Full bodied. A bit fruit yam, dark fruit, salty mineral, speck, spicy.
Has not changed much over ten days, so it is quite stable and can be drunk over the next 10+ years. Certainly a bold wine. On the edge of being to much. Lacks elegance and tension, but is certainly a well made wine. Long, fruity and salty finish. 90-92 (1171 views)
Tasted by foyfrcs on 8/30/2020 & rated 92 points: Dark ruby.
Black fruits, cherries, plums, damsons on the nose.
Ripe fruits palate, full bodied, really well balanced, long finish.
Really good wine.
Drinking very well and should continue to do so for 4/5 years. (986 views)
Tasted by danielbleier on 4/2/2020 & rated 94 points: consistent with notes of 2/24/2018 (1215 views)
Tasted by grapenomad on 2/26/2020 & rated 90 points: Deep ruby in the glass with lots of sediment upon decanting. Aromas of blackberry, plum, paprika, wet tobacco and hints of cedar. Big on the palate with lots of complexity from the bottle aging, but mediocre depth. I feel it needs a little bit of a push on that front to get me excited about the second glass. Overall, a really well-made wine that could benefit from a few more years of cellaring. (1644 views)
Tasted by Winefeld on 12/14/2019 & rated 90 points: One hour decant. Blueberry, cherry, mint, menthol, cocoa, baking spice, violet. Solid structure and lively acidity. Didn’t improve over the life of the bottle, but didn’t need to; paired nicely with steak, mushrooms and roasted squash. Drink with confidence over the next 5 years. (1217 views)
Tasted by rjpbath on 5/20/2019 & rated 93 points: Extremely impressive. Balance of power (shiraz)and subtlety (cabernet) creating a supple velvety expression. Incredibly long (3 mins +). Delicious damsons and a lovely glass of wine. Bravo (1354 views)
Tasted by Andrew67 on 7/19/2018 & rated 91 points: Lots of vanilla, mocha, oak. Tannins are very much in the background, the acidity is what actually underpins the fruit. This really could get better in coming years. (1565 views)
Tasted by Ryan.Vento on 5/13/2018 & rated 94 points: Waiting for the beast to awaken, but what little (sediment filled) sips I had indicate a rating that will only go up from here. EDIT: After an hour+ this wine really opened up. Fragrant dark berry medley, leather, and loads of menthol. Delicious. (1597 views)
Tasted by danielbleier on 2/24/2018 & rated 94 points: The only syrah/cab blend of the evening, all others were straight syrah. Perhaps predictably, this had a slightly more firm structure - bit still waves of black fruit, cassis and earthy flavors. Very Powerful. (1659 views)
Tasted by Solidgold on 6/30/2016: Super smooth and wonderfully resolved. Mild tannins and it gets better in an 1 hr. Unfortunately i do not have any more of these and prices have escalated since. (2662 views)
Tasted by Luckyb on 5/9/2014 & rated 90 points: Wonderful if simple. Thick and mouth coating / glass staining. PNP into decanter so no doubt will improve. Ruby not purple but like jam, chocolate, plumb and that dark chocolate little whole cherry and liqueur you get in a chocolate box. Like! (4524 views)
Tasted by 99tollap on 4/20/2014 & rated 94 points: This is wine is ridiculous. Yes it's a massive Aussie fruit bomb with 15% alcohol, but it's just so perfectly balanced and elegant and oh so utterly delicious. The depth of flavour is immense. Rich fruit but not jammy. Cocoa, vanilla and waves of spice. 94 with pop and pour. Highly recommended. (4019 views)
Tasted by ourempire on 10/15/2013 & rated 90 points: good bleend - very delightfull (4759 views)
Tasted by Luckyb on 12/31/2012 & rated 90 points: Way too young but could not resist a taste of what's to come and in anticipation of (and as incentive not to open) the Amon Ra! A real fruit bomb, fresh and thick and at 15% warming without too much heat. very rounded and good. Now to leave for another year. Interestingly (and don't tell your friends until you've stocked up) the Amon Ra features in the (perhaps final English translation) of "Drops of God" as the not quite Apostle wine of Discovery. Cabernet-Shiraz Blend

A very popular blend in Australia-particularly from South Australia, where the two varietals work well together. The most famous of these would be the Penfolds Bin 389, considered Australia's most cellared wine. In years gone by this was referred to as "Baby Grange" as some of the wine used barrels from the vintage of Grange.

The 2018 Paternus states only McLaren Vale Shiraz (no Cab Sav).

Anaperenna

The Anaperenna is the follow-on to the Godolphin, basically just a new name starting with 2006.
