Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 91.6 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 76 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by travelme on 2/21/2022 & rated 92 points: Painless nailed the notes and the score. This bottle was nursed along over three days. It was one of two purchased from JJ Buckley almost a decade ago. The nose was best on day one but the mid palate and finish stayed consistent throughout. Nose became a little more muted on day two and three. I think it will be best in the next three years. Really enjoyed this one and hope to get to the last bottle over the next six months to a year once I find it in my insane cellar. (1001 views)
Tasted by Jkuryak on 10/9/2021 & rated 93 points: Very smooth, but still had some tannin. Could have held for another couple years. (1066 views)
Tasted by Painless on 4/5/2020 & rated 92 points: The wine looks caramel colored. The legs are medium. There is light sediment in the bottle. It tastes like blackberry. The body is medium/full. The wine has smooth texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has low acidity. (1607 views)
Tasted by Rousanne on 12/31/2019 & rated 91 points: earth, tobacco, leather and stewed dried fruit on nose; bright, stewed red fruit, juicy, earth, leather, robust tannins, good structure, dusty long finish, holding up but wouldn't keep much longer (1644 views)
Tasted by Reisilva on 11/26/2019 & rated 88 points: The wine was decanted for 1 hour. It was hard with oak and blackberries on flavor. The final was long. I think would be drink no more than 2017. (1797 views)
Tasted by bobadopolis on 11/13/2019 & rated 93 points: Decanted for 2 hours. Spectacular. (1244 views)
Tasted by OttawaB on 1/21/2019 & rated 94 points: Drinking fantastic now. Got better with more air. Beautiful blackberry and black cherry fruits …. kirsch-like without the thickness or syrupy nature. Smooth drying tannins. Medium acidity. Great structure (1580 views)
Tasted by riskvsreward on 5/28/2018 & rated 93 points: Drinking fantastic. (1903 views)
Tasted by Mark V on 11/23/2017 & rated 90 points: This possesses very good CS fruit with CF and Merlot blend and had good color nose and pallet, however the Merlot fruit softened it considerably (2405 views)
Tasted by tomoem on 2/25/2017 & rated 90 points: This was the last of the wines tasted tonight among a dozen.
This unfortunately suffered by virtue of the order. Normally a very good cabernet this followed a 09' Scarecrow which is totally unfair. This wine is more medium bodied but had a wonderful balance and mouth feel which stood up well. Flavors of vanilla bean, bell pepper and a cherry finish describe this wine. (3012 views)
Tasted by Zo65 on 7/22/2016 & rated 92 points: This wine was always good but has really come into its own. Classic Napa Cab bouquet, full mouthfeel, long finish. Superb. (3939 views)
Tasted by N.Bonaparte on 4/29/2015 & rated 92 points: Needs about 30 min to open up, full bodied, good balance and finish. Probably will reach prime in 1-2 years and last another 10. Good value. (4604 views)
Tasted by Botte515 on 12/25/2014 & rated 93 points: Christmas dinner wine 2014. Decanted after 7 years and drinking really well. More medium bodied than full, but stood up to marbled prime rib. True red color, with a vanilla/berry nose and excellent earthen flavors that I love. This wine actually exceeded my expectations and I'm happy to have a 2nd bottle for Christmas future. (3887 views)
Tasted by OttawaB on 7/15/2014 & rated 93 points: Deep dark berry flavours, long finish, nice structure, slightly chewy tannins. (4056 views)
Tasted by bobv on 1/16/2014 & rated 92 points: Great flavor. Nice tannin. Nice finish. I took bottles of this to a duck hunting and fishing event. Some people liked it better than Silver Oak Alevander Valley. Both were superb. (3797 views)
Tasted by Trolson on 12/23/2013 & rated 91 points: Very interesting wine. Tastes like a South American wine. (3259 views)
Tasted by bobv on 12/6/2013 & rated 91 points: We like Signorello wines, and this is a very drinkable, medium bodied, smooth and subtle cabernet. (2398 views)
Tasted by bugdoced on 11/29/2013 & rated 91 points: very tart and tight when first opened so a little disappointed that it was not ready to go
still fruit was typical signorello excellence
hold or decant (2180 views)
Tasted by bobv on 11/26/2013 & rated 93 points: Served 2 bottles for a group dinner. Both were exceptional. Full bodied, great fruit flavors, nice tannin. There was one glass left, and it was even better the next day. (1747 views)
Tasted by bobv on 9/7/2013 & rated 90 points: Smooth, rich berry flavor. Very nice cab (1530 views)
Tasted by Trolson on 3/22/2013 & rated 92 points: Great value. Big noise. Tastes like wine much more expensive. (1476 views)
Tasted by bugdoced on 12/24/2012 & rated 89 points: more vanilla notes than I recall from previous vintages but still with a good fruit balance with napa earth (2762 views)
Tasted by D. Mitchell on 10/8/2012 & rated 92 points: Big surprise, tasted behind 01 Quilceda Creek Cab, and 02 Caymus Special Selection. This bottle stood up surprisingly well behind those two, completely exceeding all of our expectations. Removed from the cellar, 30 minute decant plus a further 15 minutes in the glass talking about it amongst the guests. The nose was beautiful mocha, pepper, dark fruit, and vanilla, the taste seemed to back up the nose quite well and was a little cooler on alcohol then the previous two we had tasted. The finish was average. We all agreed this was the value leader of the evening, although most preferred the Caymus, although by a slim margain. Great vintage, and amazing Value at $38! (3785 views)
Tasted by Double-A on 9/4/2012 & rated 90 points: Big, currant, tar, toast and mineral nose. Rich and flavourful with an elegant balance; woodsy and smoky with a ripe fruit finish.
4/5 (610 views)
Tasted by Kesnel on 4/6/2012 & rated 92 points: - Garnet color with medium forming legs and aromas of chocolate, black pepper, vanilla, oak and walnut. It's unbalanced and has flavours of chocolate, black pepper, vanilla and walnut with a medium/full body. Narrow texture with a medium finish. (4175 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
