Tasted by ebuckley on 4/14/2023 & rated 91 points: Just a bit too late on this one. I think it would have been 93-94 a couple years ago. Still an excellent wine, but past it's peak. If you have it, drink it. (535 views)
Tasted by roasted hill on 1/2/2022: Basicly consistent notes since 2019.
Decanted an hour. Deep purple. Nose of cassis, a bit of vanilla, and dark fruits. Rich blueberry, blackberry, and a hint black currant. Tannins dusty but not intrusive. Remains quite primary.
Stored perfectly and still room to change in a good way, i think, but i won't wait too long. (1453 views)
Tasted by Ricky99 on 3/14/2021 & rated 91 points: on open, seemed quite tired... after about an hour, it woke up a bit and tannins came forward and gave it some balance. Kept half a bottle over night and next day it was over tired again.. Still enjoyable but drink up. (1759 views)
Tasted by Ricky99 on 11/28/2020 & rated 91 points: feels maybe just past peak... tasy, integrated aged California Cab (1763 views)
Tasted by jsander on 11/9/2020 & rated 92 points: Muted fruits still a bit Tannin forward. After an hour all in balance. Tasty aged Cab. (1700 views)
Tasted by mouki on 9/25/2020 & rated 91 points: Still has the fruit but much subdued, tannins are all resolved, drink them if you got them, this will not be lasting much longer. I liked it but wish I would have pulled from the cellar a year ago, we still enjoyed it however. It would have been a 93 a couple of years ago. (1392 views)
Tasted by madalyn on 2/4/2020 & rated 92 points: nice and soft, drink up (1261 views)
Tasted by roasted hill on 9/9/2019: Decanted an hour. Deep purple. Nose of cassis, a bit of vanilla, and dark fruits. Blueberry, blackberry, and a hint black currant. Tannins resolving but still quite primary. Has room to evolve, in my opinion. (1216 views)
Tasted by wine4lux on 12/15/2018 & rated 92 points: Soft and elegant texture, fruit is muted, finish is of moderate length, may be on the down hill side of its journey. (1398 views)
Tasted by Rbtrage on 11/24/2018 & rated 93 points: Better than the 2003 I had yesterday. (1332 views)
Tasted by Maphill01 on 11/16/2018: A really nice mature cab with dark fruits and tobacco. Would rank higher but it’s a little more mature for my taste, so for the price I would prefer something a bit younger. (806 views)
Tasted by bobvictor on 11/12/2017 & rated 94 points: Better than last time. Deep, dark, harmonious soulful. This wine is singing now. Surprisingly fabulous. (1979 views)
Tasted by Hamersly on 1/26/2017 & rated 95 points: Flamboyant nose of cassis, unsmoked tobacco, and dark fruits. Rich, lush and seamless in the mouth with beautifully integrated tannins. Moderately long, satisfying finish. Pnp or short decant. (2565 views)
Tasted by bobvictor on 9/30/2016 & rated 92 points: Dark purple. Some bricking and some sediment. Not much on the nose. Strong flavor of licorice and tobacco a little black currant and traces of dark red fruit. Tanins have integrated. Medium to long finish. (2574 views)
Tasted by Loren Sonkin on 8/2/2015 & rated 93 points: A bunch of wines at dinner with Friends (Taste): Ruby/purple in color. The nose has cassis and a very strong tobacco, both brown and green quality. Is there any Cab Franc in this? On the palate, this seems to be at peak. Nice cassis flavors. Mild tannins. Lots of fruit left. Just the slightest amount of oak left. This drinks a bit more Bordeaux like than I was expecting which for me is a goof thing. Nice showing. (3979 views)
Tasted by unionst on 11/15/2014 & rated 93 points: Dark, dark purple color.
Nose of ripe blackberries and plums, some leather and cedar.
BIG, BIG palate - ripe blackberries and plums dominate, black licorice and a trace of tobacco leaf on the mid-palate. While, Ramey's Jericho Canyon is typically one of my favorite Cali Cabs because it has both beautiful fruit and layered nuances this one is riper and bolder. I am not sure it will reveal the kind of nuances I would expect with age from this vineyard given where it is at 10 years. Drink now or hold for 10 more years. (3929 views)
Tasted by rwstorer on 6/2/2014 & rated 93 points: - Ruby color with medium forming legs and aromas of black currant, blackberry and cedar. It's balanced and has flavours of black currant with a medium/full body. Polished texture with a medium finish - Delicious and showing some age. Lots of plum and silky smoothness absolutely delicious with a light pasta and grilled octopus. (4075 views)
Tasted by jsander on 5/15/2014 & rated 90 points: Bigs tannins dissipate after about an hour in the glass. I will try the next bottle in a year. (3312 views)
Tasted by brich on 4/19/2014 & rated 94 points: Drink up delicious and ready. (3227 views)
Tasted by sjdcellar on 4/14/2014 & rated 92 points: this has held up very well. typical Ramey smoothness. no real age showing at all. Plum and cassis very evident and the finish is oaky and rich (2584 views)
Tasted by Curt Hawkins on 4/5/2014 & rated 89 points: Was really looking forward to this. It had moments of greatness but nothing consistent. Appears to be on the downhill. (2101 views)
Tasted by Night Train on 12/25/2013 & rated 93 points: No signs of age, visually or on the nose. A little cassis and a lot of plums. Fairly rich, with a solid finish. At least one CellarTracker note indicated that's it's headed downhill. My first taste since 2007, but if this has faded, I can only wonder just how terrific it might have been at its peak. (1993 views)
Tasted by phillyboyP on 1/2/2013 & rated 90 points: On the nose - Cassis, Blueberry , Cherry Liquor, oak, and a touch of heat. Palate was nice and plenty of fruit with integrated tannins, but more heat. Given the price tag ($100) and the pedigree, I was a little dissapointed, even at the $50 I paid. I think this will hold for a few more years, but don't see it improving much. Good wine, but no standout.... 90 (2831 views)
Tasted by russdan60 on 9/30/2012 & rated 93 points: My first Ramey cabernet and drank this with just a half hour of decanting. Wonderfully seamless finish and what I would consider a most excellent wine. (3256 views)
Tasted by Mac Cellar on 7/15/2012 & rated 92 points: Hold for 2017 (3506 views)

Red Bordeaux Blend

Red Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.

Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
