Tasted by davudvl on 5/15/2021 & rated 92 points: Excellent (816 views)
Tasted by Wine Sparty on 8/5/2020 & rated 91 points: Very fruit forward, which isn’t surprising. I think I’m just looking for something a bit more balanced or nuanced nowadays. (940 views)
Tasted by ScottGoodwin on 4/6/2020: This has never been my favorite Sojourn bottling and age hadn’t helped this one. I’ve had some really nice surprises with Sojuorns in the 8-10 year window. But I think this one just lacked the acid and structure to age. Stewed black cherries with muted cola notes and brown spice. Very juicy. Still a good amount of fruit there. But just seems a little tired without the tannic or acid structure for it to hang on. Drink ‘em up! (1034 views)
Tasted by Seneg on 8/13/2018 & rated 89 points: Time to drink it - good as it was my last bottle (1576 views)
Tasted by JS199 on 7/11/2018 & rated 92 points: A higher pitched version of their SC bottling. (1612 views)
Tasted by jhemming on 5/18/2018 & rated 93 points: One of the better Sojourns I’ve had in a while. Showing really well. Fully integrated tenant. Bright red fruit with cherry and strawberry. Orange rind. Light baking spices. Balanced acidity with moderate finish. (1145 views)
Tasted by Oskiwawa on 5/8/2018 & rated 87 points: Popped and poured. Drank over 2 hours. ruby colored. vanilla, strawberry and a bit of tea on the nose. Palate shows ripe fruit, slightly sweet. The wine is polished. That said, it lacks real character and depth. Pleasant enough but that is about it. Would drink these over the short term. (1088 views)
Tasted by JS199 on 4/18/2017 & rated 93 points: First time having this. First impression, I need to buy more. Very tasty, good balance. It reminds me of the Sojourn Sonoma Coast bottling, but with a more polished profile. Medium, super smooth and a cherry kiss at the end. Bravo! (1370 views)
Tasted by RGCM Gananda on 5/7/2016 & rated 93 points: My first experience with the Rodger's Creek Vineyard site and I was quite impressed. Blackberry, black cherry and floral notes on the extremely pretty nose. Medium bodied and accessible within a half hour of opening but improved and evolved over the next two and a half hours. Started off with black cherry and black raspberry with hints of red fruit behind. However, the longer it was open, the more and more it became a berry show - a mix of blackberry and wildberry with brightness and excellent acidity. The mineral and acidity driven finish capped it all off with length, elegance and richness. This wine showed great fruit, but always in balance. Close to peak, but with some room for additional improvement; this wine should drink well for several more years. I will certainly be looking for this vineyard site in additional vintages from Sojourn. (1274 views)
Tasted by td1836 on 4/15/2016 & rated 93 points: Beckett Tasting Group - Apr 2016: Light orange/red color with bricking around the edges. Best nose of the bunch, beautiful perfume and flowers. Red fruits, great earthiness balancing the fruit, silky smooth texture, and a wonderful long finish. This wine was really singing tonight and the bottle age has treated it well. (1502 views)
Tasted by Griffeyfan04 on 1/1/2016 & rated 92 points: PnP and went down easily. Typical Sojourn nose and a good balance of fruit and earth. Still could go several years with no problem (1321 views)
Tasted by mmcdds on 9/8/2015 & rated 90 points: Drinking very well tonigt. (1566 views)
Tasted by stevenjstein on 7/14/2015 & rated 92 points: A good medium bodied Pinot. Balanced, with soft red fruit, earth and a touch of forest floor. (1367 views)
Tasted by td1836 on 7/6/2015 & rated 92 points: A more earthy representation of the Sojourn pinots, forest floor, juicy strawberries, some red cherry, elevated acidity (for Sojourn). Light weight and a very elegant wine. (1089 views)
Tasted by pjhr on 5/26/2015 & rated 91 points: Similar tasting notes to previous bottle except for a touch more heat on the finish. (1179 views)
Tasted by dhammer53 on 5/2/2015 & rated 91 points: Clear color. Cherries and spice. Perfume nose. A little sweetness on opening. Some acid, but that faded after 60 minutes. The wine got better in the second hour. Fuller - richer. The Rodgers Creek, made by Craig Haserot, smelled like a Sojourn. If you're a Sojourn drinker, you understand my comment.
No rush to drink. (1156 views)
Tasted by daniel.jay on 4/25/2015 & rated 88 points: Drank next to a 2012 Ridgetop. This wasn't bad at all, but it was a clear second in depth, complexity, spice and mouth feel. (883 views)
Tasted by Duncan Wine on 3/5/2015 & rated 92 points: Dark ruby. Aromas of earthy mushroom with a bit of sweet cherry. Layer of dark cherry and a hint of blackberry on the palate. A little Burgundian which I personally like. (1349 views)
Tasted by pjhr on 3/1/2015 & rated 92 points: Similar tasting notes to previous bottle. (958 views)
Tasted by ScottGoodwin on 12/21/2014 & rated 89 points: Black cherries with lots of cola, sassafras and vanilla extract. Some herbal notes. Palate is restrained. Light bodied +. Good clean integrates acidity. Well balanced. Not my favorite flavor profile with the cola and sassafras but a very well made wine. (1158 views)
Tasted by mgstull on 12/2/2014 & rated 92 points: Sweet black cherry, strawberry, bright red fruit, and oriental spice. Nice earthy long finish. (1002 views)
Tasted by Wine_in_HD on 11/7/2014 & rated 94 points: Great favors of deep dark cherry, brown sugar, and spice. Makes me sad that this is only a split or half bottle and I only have another half bottle left. If you this wine it is a great time to drink it. (1174 views)
Tasted by mgstull on 11/2/2014 & rated 90 points: Light garnet. Charries, tea, five spice, orange peel, earth all framed by juicy mouthwatering acidity. (948 views)
Tasted by pjhr on 10/29/2014 & rated 92 points: Tasty ripe cherries, floral notes, and spice on the nose and palate with silky body, delicious acidity, and moderate finish. (998 views)
Tasted by winopops3 on 10/25/2014 & rated 91 points: Nose with cherry and earth. Palate tart black cherry, hint of berry, and fairly prominent spice. Velvety mouth feel. Medium finish. Very nice. (856 views)

2010 Sojourn Pinot Noir Rodgers Creek Vineyard Sonoma Coast

Rodgers Creek Vineyard, Sonoma Coast
2010 was our third vintage working with Rodgers Creek Vineyard, and the third time was definitely a charm.  This Pinot noir shows the familiar earthy and mushroom elements that have been consistent through each vintage and seem to exude from the unique soils and dominant Pommard clone.  The site is well-suited for Pinot noir, sitting high on a ridge in the heart of the Petaluma Gap and taking the full brunt of wind and thick fog that define this cool climate zone.  The vines are grown in light, chalky volcanic ash soils on steep inclines, causing natural vine stress and resulting in high levels of concentration.  Two blocks of the Pommard clone form the foundation of this wine, with clone 777 adding a layer of bright fruit.  In 2010, we fermented a portion of the primary Pommard block whole-cluster, adding aromatic complexity and verve.

Elegant aromas of mushroom, earth, and Asian spice overlay a core of dark cherry and blackberry.  This wine stands out in a crowd and shows the most Burgundian flavors in our 2010 line-up.  The texture is very Californian, with great lushness, silky tannins, and lingering finish.

Pinot Noir

Varietal character (Appellation America) | Varietal article (Wikipedia)
Pinot Noir is the Noble red grape of Burgundy, capable of ripening in a cooler climate, which Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot will not reliably do. It is unpredictable and difficult both to grow and to vinify, but results in some of the finest reds in the world. It is believed to have been selected from wild vines two thousand years ago. It is also used in the production of champagne. In fact, more Pinot Noir goes into Champagne than is used in all of the Cote d'Or! It is also grown in Alsace, Jura, Germany, the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Romania, Switzerland, Austria, Croatia, Serbia, Italy, and so forth, with varying degrees of success.

Pinot Noir is one of the world's most prestigious grapes. It is very difficult to grow and thrives well in France, especially in Champagne and Burgundy. Pinot Noir thrives less in hot areas, is picky on soil, and deserves some oak storage.

Pinot Noir, or Blauburgunder / Spätburgunder in German, is a blue grapevine - and, as the German name suggests, the grape comes originally from Burgundy in France.

The grape, which thrives in calcareous soils, is used primarily for the production of red wine, and it is widely regarded as producing some of the best wines in the world. The wine style is often medium-bodied with high fruit acidity and soft tannins. It can be quite peculiar in fragrance and taste, and not least in structure - which may be why it is referred to as "The Grapes Ballerina".
Pinot Noir is also an important ingredient in sparkling wines, not least in champagne since it is fruity, has good acidity and contains relatively little tannins.
The grape is considered quite demanding to grow. The class itself consists of tightly packed grapes, which makes it more sensitive to rot and other diseases.

Pinot Noir changes quite easily and is genetically unstable. It buds and matures early which results in it often being well ripened. Climate is important for this type of grape. It likes best in cool climates - in warm climates the wines can be relaxed and slightly pickled.
In cooler climates, the wine can get a hint of cabbage and wet leaves, while in slightly warmer regions we often find notes of red berries (cherries, strawberries, raspberries, currants), roses and slightly green notes when the wine is young. With age, more complex aromas of forest floor, fungi and meat emerge.

In Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Hungary, it often produces light wines with less character. However, it has produced very good results in California, Oregon and New Zealand.

With its soft tannins and delicate aroma, it is excellent for white fish, chicken and light meat. For the stored wines you can serve small game. Classic duck breast is a matter of course, a Boeuf Burgundy and Pinot Noir are pure happiness.

Pinot Noir loses quality by over-harvesting.
Pinot Noir is prone to diseases, especially rot and mildew. Viruses cause major problems especially in Burgundy.
Pinot Noir are large round grapes with thin skins. Relatively high in alcohol content. Medium rich tannins and good with acid.
As a young person, Pinot Noir has a distinctly fruity character such as raspberries, cherries and strawberries.
A mature Pinot Noir, the taste is different. Cherry goes into plum and prune flavors. It smells of rotten leaves, coffee, moist forest floor and animal wine. This must be experienced.
In warm climates you find boiled plum, some rustic, little acid.
If the grapes are over-grown, the wine will be thin, with little color and flavor.

Rodgers Creek Vineyard

Rodgers Creek is nestled in the hills above Petaluma in the Sonoma Coast appellation. Our block is a gently sloping hillside at 800 feet elevation planted to a Cote Rotie clone specifically selected for this site. We love stem inclusion here, as we feel it accentuates the uniqueness of this vineyard and the Syrah varietal character.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
