Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 92.2 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 11 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by M.Batard on 4/29/2018 & rated 92 points: Decanted 30 minutes beforehand. Leather, green pepper, red fruit (instead of plum) this time, and a bit of earth. Red fruit (red currant?), but savory palate. Long finish. Refined aristocrat. Got better through the dinner. Paired with steak, sweet potatoes, and broccolini—and chocolate truffles. Not quite as richly vibrant as the ‘92, compared alongside. (947 views)
Tasted by cardsandwine on 12/18/2016: One hour slo-o. The wine is at the top of its game. Earthy bouquet with a touch of funk. The palate is pure velvet with great depth, focus and finesse and finishes with considerable length. A wine with soul! (1332 views)
Tasted by yofog on 11/7/2014: Fresh potato skins, cigarettes, ripe currant, tart currant, perfumey spice. There's still plenty of ripe, livey, round fruit here and it's very worth drinking, now and for 5+ years yet I would think, though there's still a lot of tannin, too, and the fruit gets tired after about an hour. (2110 views)
Tasted by M.Batard on 8/23/2013 & rated 92 points: Consistent with last year's note. Decanted half an hour ahead of dinner. Leather, plums, earth with the slightest hint of green pepper on the nose. Plums and leather stayed through the palate, which seemed amazingly fresh, but the green pepper had faded after an hour or so. Long finish. Once again, paired with duck breast, this time with plum compote. Nice. (2235 views)
Tasted by pbaek on 8/11/2013: Wow, this still feels young and curiously this wine was much better on the second night after a sleepover in the fridge. Classic, cab franc flavors, green and mushy, complex. Great acidity and freshness. Worth the $68 tab. (2283 views)
Tasted by mikeaukenbals on 9/16/2012 & rated 92 points: At Daniel. Lots of earth and white pepper. touch of barnyard. (2167 views)
Tasted by rawlinsclan@gmail.com on 7/7/2012 & rated 93 points: Nose of leather and cherry. (2036 views)
Tasted by M.Batard on 7/6/2012 & rated 92 points: Agree that this is spectacular example of mature Cabernet Franc. Medium bodied, ruby color, slightest of brick at the edge. Earthy nose, with charred firewood note. Plums on the palate, fresh as ever. Long finish. Beautifully complemented by pan-grilled duck breast, with glazed apple compote and lentils, although not quite as plush as the '92 we compared it with. (1280 views)
Tasted by cardsandwine on 4/11/2012: Had my second bottle in a month and it was spectacular. This wine is in peak drinking form. Absolutely stunning Cab Franc. (1065 views)
Tasted by cardsandwine on 3/4/2012: Spectacular bottle of wine. Intoxicating earthy bouquet. Pure and rich on the palate with a lengthy and elegant finish. A wine with soul. (1030 views)
Tasted by rjonwine@gmail.com on 2/26/2012 & rated 92 points: Loire-Themed Euro Lunch (Donato Enoteca, Redwood City, California): Light bricking medium dark red violet color; rich, mature, tart currant, dried shitake mushroom, beef jus nose; tasty, tart currant, iodine, tart plum palate; medium-plus finish (1208 views)
