Tasted by havarhar on 12/27/2023 & rated 88 points: Kork ut i god forfatning. Fargesterk. Mørk mursteinsrød farge. Solbær dominerer lukten. Rundt anslag. Mørk frukt. Godt med syrlighet. Litt sursøte tendenser. Middel lengde. En helt greit, men ikke topp vin. (129 views)
Tasted by Purple Tooth on 12/5/2021 & rated 91 points: Out of a magnum, this wine has all the green attributes of a well aged French wine made for patient folks, intertwined with lots of cedar and pauillac like combination of graphite and unsmoked cigar tobacco. The bell pepper and the grip of the wine from the freshness of the magnum make you think first growth from a bad year…but the mid palate says no, and then the grip comes back and says, take another sip. Very fun to drink. Then you think, maybe a Loire Cabernet franc. Then you take another sip and realize you still don’t know shit about wine….DRINK (1500 views)

Tasted by PSPatrick on 12/24/2016 & rated 87 points: The wine was medium to dark garnet in colour and offered black currant, cherry, blackberry, roasted bell pepper, vegetal notes, horsehair, leather and spices on the nose. On the palate the wine showed black currant, dark cherry, blackberry, raspberry, spices, tobacco and vegetal notes, with medium-plus acidity, slightly underripe tannin and good length. The (just) medium-bodied wine had good aromatic complexity, but was a little thin, a tad green and somewhat disjointed, and it seemed as if the grapes did not achieve full phenolic ripeness.  Tasted by Loekkeboe on 3/13/2015 & rated 91 points: Very nice nose with currant, currant laefs, earthy mineral notes, roasted green (bell)pepper notes, mint, pencil

Palate is fresh with good full flavours and ripeness. Quite smooth but still 'french' in the best sense.

For me its a good exampel of an attractive greenish bordeaux. Will keep for some years. (2405 views)
Tasted by kostaslonis on 12/16/2014 & rated 87 points: Left Bank Bordeaux tasting (Le Petit Sommelier): Hazy color as it wasn't decanted and hadn't been standing upright for the sediment to settle in the bottom, brick red color.
The nose is rather clean, medium intensity, fully developed character, earthy, mushroom, no fruit, light vegetal notes.
The wine is dry, med-/med body, med intensity, med alcohol (12.50%), med acidity, tannins dissolved, dried stale red currant, dusty and earthy, mushroom and capsicum note, short finish.
Very good quality, drink yesterday (2900 views)
Tasted by JulianSkeels on 5/6/2013 & rated 91 points: Last bottle of case, and I'll miss this wine. 2 hr double decant and cool down. Typical Graves notes of tobacco and mineral, some pencil lead. Wine has become medium-full bodied with a sweet sappy finish and relatively simple taste compared to the nose. Still, a good and honest age worthy value Graves. (3098 views)
Tasted by Paul D on 9/14/2012 & rated 90 points: Medium garnet/mahogany core, medium pale mahogany rim. Nose is developed, of medium intensity, with slightly smoky, leathery mainly red toned fruit. Slightly green edge. On the palate this is medium bodied, with attractive slightly leathery red and black berry fruit, notes of warm earth, soft tannins, balanced acidity, notes of blood and iron on the good length harmonious finish. Attractive, soft, complex, authentic and I would say at its peak. (3581 views)
Tasted by Dokken on 2/22/2012 & rated 91 points: Medium ruby with a wide garnet rim and sediment present. Evolved nose with black fruit, cedar, tobacco and hints of brett. Well blended in oak. Broad on palate with depth, refreshing acidity and medium ripe & resolved tannins. Long mid-palate and peristent finish. Drink it now and over the next 2 years. (2858 views)
Tasted by humagne on 9/16/2011 & rated 89 points: Attractive nose of tobacco, spices, red fruit, typical of Graves. Elegant with medium length, tannins resolved.
Good to drink now but should hold. (2098 views)
Tasted by Paul D on 9/16/2007 & rated 85 points: Medium/deep garnet. Spicy, slightly smoky nose - medium intensity but attractive with some underlying red-toned fruit. Medium intense spicy strawberry on the palate, this is alive and well with lively acidity and some chewy, but mostly resolved tannins on the medium length finish. Decent if a little light and unchallenging. Drinking well now, should be fine for another 2-3 years. (2413 views)
Tasted by Xavier Auerbach on 9/8/2005 & rated 90 points: Quite tight, a veritable 1996, spicy, dark and earthy, lovely oak, good typicity, wait a few years. Should easily last until 2016. (1206 views)
Tasted by Fatty Cat on 11/16/2004 & rated 92 points: Mid Nov 2004: crimson; intense cassis; fruity; light/medium body; juicy texture. (508 views)
Tasted by Xavier Auerbach on 9/21/1999 & rated 92 points: Wonderful Graves typicity, delicious, leather and tobacco. (1809 views)

Red Bordeaux Blend

Red Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.

Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.

History of Bordeaux

History of 1855 Bordeaux Classification

"2009 is all about ripeness, with wines impressively packed with ripe fruit and high alcohol levels. They are showy, in-your-face, and full of pleasure. The 2010s have the fruit and alcohol levels of the 2009s, but with a compelling freshness on the finish that balances the fruit and provides a perfect sense of structure." - Ben Nelson

"2016 is a landmark vintage in certain spots of Bordeaux and it should be remembered as one of the most inspired campaigns of the last 40-50+ years." -Jon Rimmerman
"The quality of red Bordeaux in 2016 was universally lauded – although the response to the en primeur campaign was muted. Quantity was high too, with the equivalent of 770 million bottles of wine produced. An exceptionally dry summer with cool nights eventually, thanks to mid September rain, resulted in small, thick-skinned, ripe grapes, and the wines are marked by high tannin and acidity, with superb aromatic fragrance." - Jancis Robinson

"2017 was complicated, but there are some excellent wines. Expect plenty of freshness and drinkability from wines that will offer excellent value, and others that will rival 2016 in terms of ripeness and ageability. But they are likely to be the exception not the rule, making careful selection key." - Jane Anson

"In the past, a vintage such as 2022 may have been overripe, raisined and low in acidity but 2022 had a sneaky little reservoir in its back pocket - a near perfect marriage of cool/cold/rain the previous winter and the previous vintage that literally soaked the soils (a key to why 2022 is not 2003...or 1893)." - Jon Rimmerman
