| Community Tasting Notes (average 90 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 26 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by John from GR on 2/9/2014 & rated 90 points: Massive berries...rich, black fruits. Plus complexity - some wet earth and grilled meats. Full mouth and light tannins with a moderate length finish. Tried a bottle two years ago - it was straight forward new world Syrah. Now it has nuance. Glad I have one more bottle so I can see where this wine goes in another year or two. This has become like a big Crozes-Hermitage or due to floral notes on the nose, a mini Cote Rotie. (3419 views) | | Tasted by Aparritz on 6/24/2013 & rated 90 points: Picked up at the winery in June of 2012. Smokey dark fruit with a creamy, silky, very long finish. Strong tannin and deep flavor on the first day (3/4 of the bottle) but the remainder a few days later was mediocre at best. It retained its structure but lost all fruit and flavor. Durability would have given it an extra point or two. Overall delicious. Brown sugar on the nose, black fruit, strong structure. Intense color, blackberry and a little bit smokey flavor. (3413 views) | | Only displaying the 25 most recent notes - click to see all notes for this wine... |
| Unti Vineyards Producer website
Unti Vineyards is a small, no-frills, family-owned and operated winery specializing in red varietal wines with vineyard personality. George and his son Mick believe Dry Creek Valley's climate is ideal for making full-bodied, fruity reds from Zinfandel, Rhone and Italian varietals. In 2004 the Untis began using biodynamic vineyard practices designed to make the vines more self-sustaining and adaptive to their natural environment. The winery, established in 1997, produces small lots of estate grown Zinfandel, Syrah, Grenache, Barbera, Sangiovese, Petite Sirah and a Dry Rose. The winemaking includes artisan methods which enhance and support an ability to make wines with a sense of place. Almost all of the wines, and opinions, are unfiltered.Unti Vineyards Syrah BenchlandBenchland Acres: 6.48 Rootstock: 5-C Clone: Durell Spacing: 6′ X 10′ ©Unti VineyardsSyrah Varietal article (Wikipedia) | (Wines Northwest)
Note that some producers in the Northern Rhone distinguish between simply Syrah and "Serine", the latter described as ‘an ancient clone of Syrah, the berries of which are more oval-shaped and less deeply pigmented than Syrah’ by producer Tardieu-Laurent. USAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Sonoma CountyMendocino CountyDry Creek Valley Winegrowers of Dry Creek Valley | Dry Creek Valley Association | Appellation America | San Francisco Chronicle Article |
