Tasted by River Rat on 3/7/2015: The cork was really soft it made me pause because it seems whenever a cork is this soft the wine ends up being tainted. No such problem tonight, bullet dodged. It's been three years since the last time I tasted this and it has really developed. The initial pour had cat pee on the nose but that blew off pretty quickly and then gave the impression of a stainless Chardonnay with some lemon and loads of limestone minerality. The mid-palate was round and a bit heavy but then the acidity kicked in along with some citrus zest and it blossomed. The sharp, slightly bitter finish was accented by a hint of tannins. This wine has a ton going on for the low $17.50 price tag. Wish I could get my hands on a case of it. Big thumbs up! (2170 views)
Tasted by Stumpy on 10/21/2014 & rated 88 points: I kept cool and it drank very nicely, keeping the more brooding tones at bay and helped to balance an otherwise reticent acidity. I thought it a fantastic QPR wine.... (1921 views)
Tasted by winopops3 on 4/18/2014 & rated 91 points: Bright citrus with a richness that is not oak based. A really intriguing white. (1916 views)
Tasted by Tubulus on 2/16/2014 & rated 87 points: NIce, full flavored, medium acidity. Only qualm was a bitter aftertaste. My guess is I would like it more in a few years. (1754 views)
Tasted by prasm on 12/3/2013 & rated 89 points: Consumed over 2 days, note from day 2. Nose: Medium-plus expressiveness, caramel apple, lemon, and pear. Palate: Medium bodied, somewhat creamy and dense texture in the mouth, tart tropical fruit attack, big acidic backbone, mineral and earthy components appear mid-palate and and remain prominent into the back-end. Finish: Medium-plus length of tart tropical fruit and minerals. By day 2 the fruit has dissipated noticeably versus day 1, still interesting and enjoyable though. Probably would have scored a point higher yesterday. (89-90) (1728 views)
Tasted by fdub on 11/15/2013 & rated 90 points: Very nice light golden yellow in the glass. Very exotic nose of lemon, tropical fruits, lychee and pears. The palate has great poise and balance. Wonderful acidity to balance it out. Could age for much longer. (1382 views)
Tasted by Rob and Meg on 6/15/2013 & rated 87 points: A better bottle than our last. Nice nose of tropical fruit and white flowers. The palate is medium to full bodied and initially lush with ripe pineapple and orange citrus. Adequate acidity and slate minerals lend a bit of cut to the orchard fruit finish. Rather enjoyable, and would do well with those who enjoy riper fruit flavors. (1892 views)
Tasted by GMGnyc on 6/9/2013 & rated 90 points: pretty wine, terrific weight/mouthfeel. (1370 views)
Tasted by leadpencil on 5/10/2013 & rated 90 points: Straw color, full bodied. Lavender, honeysuckle, peach, flint. Touch of cream. (1332 views)
Tasted by eschwet on 5/3/2013 & rated 91 points: Always enjoy the Bedrock whites. This is a great blend that has nothing to do with a 'typical' California white wine. Florality is abundant on the nose with a atypical range of fruit that I can't quite put my finger on. Viscosity is high with a long finish. Nice acidity as a backbone. Fun wine..... (1369 views)
Tasted by twelch on 4/27/2013 & rated 90 points: Getting better. Much of the same as before but more fruit appeared. (1212 views)
Tasted by rdf58 on 3/19/2013 & rated 89 points: Peach and mineral aromas with a bit of tropical fruit. Almost Loire like minerality. Light to medium bodied, low acidity. Decent QPR for old viney stuff. (1208 views)
Tasted by zscheiner on 1/27/2013: I can't believe I've had four bottles of this and haven't posted a note. This white has a little bit for everyone... viscosity and cut, ripe stone fruit and tart citrus, white flowers and minerality. Can't wait for the 2012. (1451 views)
Tasted by *Vine* on 12/2/2012: Popped and poured, tasted over 3 nights. Light yellow hue. Pleasant, somewhat refrained aromas of stone fruits, tangerine zest, honeysuckle, and minerals with subtle herbaceous undertones. Light to medium-light body with moderate acidity. The flavors in mouth are largely similar to what's presented aromatically, albeit one exception being a strange, off-putting volatile characteristic (almost like you'd find in watered-down scotch). However, after 24+ hours of being open, the disparate elements smooth over to leave refined flavors almost akin to a white originating from the Northern Rhone, with somewhat blowzy fruit buoyed by an impression of minerals and acidity. Deceptive length on the close.
An intriguing white, and one which needs aeration or another 12 months in the cellar...if anything, day 3 certainly seems to indicate that this should only get better with short term cellaring. (1870 views)
Tasted by chukon99 on 12/2/2012 & rated 88 points: This was pretty similar to my last bottle. Floral aromas with notes of pear, light taste of citrus and peach. Mouthfeel was much lighter, not nearly as waxy but still had nice acidity. (1748 views)
Tasted by ksmith on 11/11/2012 & rated 91 points: Floral, stone fruits and citrus, bot on the nose and palate. Finishes with a bit of vanilla. Very good. (1584 views)
Tasted by swillpower on 10/31/2012: Totally corked. Bummer. (1681 views)
Tasted by Acohen on 10/28/2012 & rated 91 points: Lot of floral notes on the nose and a great mix of citrus, flowers and spice with a medium weight and a nice finish. Excellent with pork (1436 views)
Tasted by mdefreitas on 10/27/2012 & rated 91 points: My last bottle... wish I bought more. Crisp, with deceptive sap that sneaks up on you as it warms. Lemons, ginger and peaches, with a hint of nuts in the finish. Really fun wine. (1466 views)
Tasted by gordoyflaca on 10/22/2012 & rated 89 points: same same. Feel like I'm missing something. Seems confused or jumbled or unfocused, but still I like (1586 views)
Tasted by xwine on 10/21/2012 flawed bottle: Corked. Too bad, the first bottle of this was wonderful. (1545 views)
Tasted by Grillgod on 10/21/2012 & rated 89 points: I bit more minerality this time on the front end. Nice clean semi tart citrus as it opens up. Went well with salad with blue cheeses and crispy buffalo wings. (1807 views)

2011 Bedrock Wine Co. Casa Santinamaria

The first vintage from these venerable vines planted in 1905.  Like the Compagni Portis this is a old-field blended white vineyard but the varieties present are completely different.  This is composed of Muscadelle, Chasselas, Zinfandel, Semillon, and even a little bit of Chardonnay.  I picked everything together (including the red Zinfandel) and whole-cluster pressed it into a mix of old French oak barrels and stainless steel barrels.  The wine fermented with native yeasts and ML was inhibited.  The resulting wine is certainly unique!  Though not as effusively aromatic as the Compagni Portis it possesses uncanny density and lift for a wine that did not see either malolactic or new oak.  To be honest ist reminds me most of a Marsanne/Roussanne blend. 8 barrels made.

White Blend

"White blend" means the wine is made from a blend of two or more different white varieties - or in some cases a blend of pink or red varieties that are vinified white, ie. without any skin contact.
A blend of Antao, Arinto, Rouperio.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

California

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
