Tasted by mye on 4/16/2023: Selosse Lieux Dit Tasting: Relatively slightly darker in color. To me this showed some red berry fruit, along with apples and pear. Higher in acidity, and felt a bit more mature. (1319 views)
Tasted by hprphf on 12/1/2022 & rated 95 points: Disgorged 20 Janvier 2021, decanted. Interesting to drink a young bottle, not overtly oxidative, just pure sandy white fruit. Incredibly lifted, almost like how you smell a coconut from afar? I usually love Substance the most but this is a clear step up for me, among the best Selosse I have drunk. 95+ (1435 views)
Tasted by sdr on 1/25/2022 & rated 92 points: Selosse (Oceanic, Pompano Beach, Florida): Similar to Les Carelles with a bit more oxidation which does not detract at all. Medium full and tasty but lacks the distinctiveness of the best plots. (1955 views)
Tasted by RolfT on 11/5/2021 & rated 93 points: 2014 base Lieu Dits tasting
top 3(5).
1. Carelles 96 pts
2. Sous le Mont 95 pts
3. Bout du Clos, Chemins Chalons, Chanterines. 93+ pts (1893 views)
Tasted by Kim Gerner on 11/5/2021 & rated 92 points: Jacques Selosse horisontal tasting of 9 cuvees (Krüff): All wines were presented by Guillaume Selosse. For me the best cuvee this afternoon was 2007 Millesime, extra Brut, 94+. An unexpected no. 2 was Les Chantereines with 93+. Usually my favourite from Selosse is Les Carelles which this time ended with 92, the same as Chemin de Chalon. All these Top Four cuvees are BdB.

This wine: A little bitterness on the palate. According to Guillaume based on his oldest vines; 1g sugar (372 views)

Deg. 2013

Tasting of Selosse Lieux-Dits Collection (deg. 2013 & 2019) and some more at Møntergade (25/09/2021). (2013 views)
(1996 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 4/24/2021: Selosse Lieux Dits Part 1-The Whites: Disgorged early 2017. Deep yellow color. Ginger, wheat, and a bit of citrus on the nose. The most immediately accessible and open of the white lieux dits. Round and very long. (2004 views)
Tasted by Benoit Hardy on 1/29/2021 & rated 94 points: dsg 2013

The nose is on toast, chalk, then brioche.

The mouth is enveloping. First of all, there is a perfect alchemy between an ethereal effervescence, a well-cut acidity and a beautiful substance. All this takes shape very quickly in the mouth to completely explode. The wine is blooming, calm, it goes perfectly. Very nice chalky length preceded by a finish dominated by freshness.

Excellent. (1591 views)
Tasted by aquacongas on 1/9/2020 & rated 98 points: blind, disgorged 14
surely papa in the nose, colour Looks older but in the palate fresh and cracking. Roasted pinenuts, orange peel, spicy, cinnamon. Pure finish, precise. Compared to CdM 04 a bit Shorter and broader but a great wine. First a thought Substance but it was more one of his BdB lieux dits. 3rd time to drink this wine. 98-99 (2103 views)
 Tasted by RolfT on 5/11/2019 & rated 91 points: Disgorged 2 Mar 2018 - 2011 base
The least impressive of the Lieux Dits.
A bit... flat and simple... both nose and palate, but I dont think that the bottle was off.
Red, pinot candy is my only descriptor,
91. (1838 views)
Tasted by Kim Gerner on 5/11/2019 & rated 95 points: Jacques Selosse - horizontal tasting with Anselme Selosse (L'Esprit du Vin Copenhagen): Latest disgorging. Gold colour. Vines from 1921-22 and roots are 35 (!) meters deep. Again aromas from great white Burgundy - I just love it! A few oxidative notes but they are definitely under control and much less than for Les Chantereines. (1163 views)
Tasted by acyso on 4/2/2019 & rated 95 points: Comprehensive Selosse (Chicago, IL): Disgorged February 2017. This bottle was the middle ground for me between the Carelles and the Chantereines. There's a distinct kiss of oak here that I didn't find as prominent in the other two wines, and overall the fruit profile here is a little riper, which leads to just a slight perception of sweetness. The oxidative elements here also create a bit of a caramelly touch, though it doesn't seem out of place, given the slight nuttiness and intense acidity. This bottle seemed to improve the most with air too, picking up more all-round complexity. (3049 views)
Tasted by NostraBacchus on 1/25/2019 & rated 95 points: Deg. March 2017. Notes of citrus, lemon, some minerality, some candied fruit, also some wet stone, a touch of honey too, as well as some herbal notes. It‘s medium-full bodied, with pretty high acidity. A lot of tension, but not as dense as Les Carelles tasted next to it. Excellent. (2252 views)
Tasted by aquacongas on 7/15/2018 & rated 96 points: Krug getippt. Hauptsächlich 2008er Jahrgang in diesem Solera-Wein. 96+ (2181 views)
Tasted by Burgnick on 9/18/2017 & rated 94 points: Disgorged in 2016. Beautiful nose with brioche, apple, lemon peel and minerals. Palate is oxidative, rich and powerful. Easy to like with that baby fat on the palate. (1734 views)
Tasted by kuumies on 6/29/2017: Disgorged January 18th 2016. Very much fresh and fruity on the nose with notes of apple, lemon and minerals with slight oxidative, lactic and almondy glimpses. With some time in the glass it develops milk chocolatey and marmaladey qualities. A quite bright and complex nose really. The mousse is big and a bit hasty and reveals quickly an excessively ripe fruit profile dominated by apple and apricot. Initially comes off too ripe indeed, short and lacking in acidity but develops well in the glass, becoming drier, more focused and way more pleasant eventually while picking up some acidity as well. However at least this time this was clearly the weakest of the six lieux-dits and by quite a margin. (1887 views)
Tasted by hajoha on 6/25/2017 & rated 97 points: Gogget Februar 2015.
Fantastisk vakker og intens nese.
Floral, Amalfisitroner, svakt spice og krittmineraler.
Utrolig rent.
Leken munnfølese.
Fresh!
Herlig konsentrasjon og utrolig presis.
Nydelig balanse.
Meget lang med syre og mineraler som kiler i minutter. (2033 views)
Tasted by dcwino on 3/30/2017 & rated 96 points: Comprehensive Jacques Selosse dinner (Source by Wolfgang Puck, Washington D.C.): Perhaps the richest nose and palate of the night. Expressive nose displaying rich yellow fruit, peach, lemon curd, a hint of butter scotch, crushed black pepper, marzipan, anise and spicy spices. Excellent concentration, ripe yellow peach driven palate impression, bright acidity, strong presence of mineral and a long sweet finish with a hint of spicy spices and anise at the end. Another excellent showing.

Per David White, author of But First, Champagne.

Tasted by aquacongas on 6/12/2014 & rated 96 points: Great, the "weakest" BdB from his lieux-dits, pure fine powerful, no alcohol in the palate (3799 views)
Tasted by ledwards on 12/31/2013 & rated 98 points: Drank along side the other Lieux-Dits. For me the chardonnay based wines were superior to the blends or the pinots. Both the nose and palate were so elegant. An incredible balance of chalk and minerality with weightless fruit. Unfortunately, impossible to find in the US and prohibitively expensive. I ranked the blancs very closely in this order: 1) Chalons, 2) Chantereines 3) Carelles (3110 views)
Tasted by Seth Rosenberg on 5/24/2013 & rated 97 points: The Champagnes of Jacques Selosse (featuring all 6 Lieux-Dits) by the Rare Wine Co. (NoMad Hotel Penthouse, New York, NY.): Disgorged 2012 (so the solera has 03 - 05 in it). Very Blanc Blancs with a nose of chalk, lemon peel and candied ginger. Bright and sharp, yet creamy and rich. Musky and some melon (?) comes out with time - gets more creamy on the nose as it evolves. Very spicy on the palate with lots of the candied ginger and lemon. Very bright. Pear and chalk. Creamy stones. Really sharp - gets even better with time and air. Intoxicating. Nose - 5.5/6, Palate - 6/6, Finish - 5.5/6, Je Ne Sais Quoi - 1.5/2 = 18.5/20. (7031 views)
Tasted by aagrawal on 3/21/2013 & rated 93 points: Anselme Selosse (Jacques Selosse) Legendary Dinner (Spruce Restaurant, San Francisco): Single vineyard blanc de blancs based on 05 (will eventually be solera style). Fresh, round, apple, more fruity; great balance of richness and tartness; medium-long finish. This just didn't have the acid of the other two wines in the flight. 93++ (3689 views)
Tasted by Huilok81 on 1/25/2013 & rated 95 points: Lovely nose with great acidity. The bubble was silky and long lasting. (2548 views)

Jacques Selosse

Producer website

Wikipedia on Jacques Selosse

Jacques Selosse is a Champagne grower and producer based in the Avize region of Champagne.

The estate was founded by Jacques Selosse and his family in the 1950s, with the first vintage being bottled in 1960.
The current proprietor of this estate is Anselme Selosse who took over from his father Jacques in 1980. Anselme studied at the Lycée viticole de Beaune and was one of the first winemakers to apply the winemaking techniques of white Burgundy to Champagne. In 1994 Anselme was named best French Winemaker by Gault Millau.

Production

Jacques Selosse is a Grower Champagne, which means the grapes used to produce the wines are grown in vineyards owned by the winery rather than being purchased from other growers, as is the case in most Champagne production. The entire production is grown according to biodynamic principles and Anselme is considered a pioneer of biodynamics in Champagne. Selosse wines are fermented using oak barrels, in contrast to the majority of Champagne producers who use stainless steel tanks.
Two of the wines in Selosse's range, the Substance and the Contraste, are produced using a solera system, the same process used in Sherry production.
Selosse holds 37 acres (15 ha) of vines, predominantly Chardonnay with the remainder Pinot Noir.nAround 55,000 bottles are produced each vintage, dependent on conditions.

Wines

Initial is a blend of three vintages of Chardonnay grapes, aged for at least 2 years before disgorgement in a Brut style. The wine was initially called "Initiale" but dropped the "e" along the way. Before it was nameed Initial on the label, the label was identical but without the word Initial(e), therefore known as Jacques Selosse Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs Brut. Wines disgorged in 2006 do not have the Initial(e) addition, but wines disgorged in 2007 do.
Version Originale is also a blend of three vintages of Chardonnay, but it spends 42 months in bottle before disgorgment and has very little dosage resulting in an Extra Brut style.
Millésime is a single vintage Blanc de blancs made from the grapes of two vineyards in Avize, Le Mont de Cramant and Les Chantereines.
Substance is a Blanc de blancs from a single vineyard in Avize. This Champagne is made in a solera system with the base grapes for this wine coming from the 1986 vintage, the blend is topped up with more recent vintages each year.
Contraste is a Blanc de noirs, made from Pinot Noir grapes, coming from a single vineyard called La Côte Faron in the village of Aÿ. Like the Substance cuvée, this is made in a solera style. The base grapes in this wine are from the 1994 vintage.
Exquise is a Demi-Sec wine, with around 24g/l of dosage making this a semi-sweet style. Made entirely from Chardonnay grapes as a Blanc de blancs.
Rosé is produced using Chardonnay grapes from Selosse and Pinot Noir grapes from Egly-Ouriet in Ambonnay.

France - When it comes to wine, France stands alone. No other country can beat it in terms of consistent quality and diversity. And while many of its Region, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne most obviously, produce wine as rare, as sought-after and nearly as expensive as gold, there are just as many obscurities and values to be had from little known appellations throughout the country. To learn everything there is to know about French wine would take a lifetime. To understand and appreciate French wine, one only has to begin tasting them. Click for a list of bestselling items from all of France.
Sub-Region:

Champagne - The French region of Champagne (including the cities of Rheims, Épernay, and Aÿ) was the first region in the world to make sparkling wine in any quantity. Today, the name of the region is synonymous with the finest of all sparkling wines, and wine-making traditions of Champagne have become role models for sparkling wine producers, worldwide. Surprisingly, the region of Champagne is now responsible for only one bottle in 12 of all sparkling wine produced. Styles of champagne range in sweetness ranging from an extra brut or brut 0, to the basic brut to demi sec to doux; some houses produce single vintage champagnes and others produce non-vintage (or incorporate wines/grapes of multiple vintages), often to preserve a specific taste; combinations of grape varietals; and colors, including a rosé. There are several sub-appellations, including the Valley of the Marnes river running from Épernay west, Massif de Saint-Thierry north and west of Rheims, Valley of the Ardre, the Mountains of Rheims (between Rheims and Épernay), Côte des Blancs, Côte de Sézanne, and Côte des Bar in the South. Champagne wine only uses three grape varietals (cépages): Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier.
