| Community Tasting Notes (average 91.4 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 18 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by MystMrQ on 4/11/2020 & rated 90 points: A big, fruit forward wine that’s still drinking beautifully. Rich, deep blackberry flavors dominate with enough tannins to stand up to hearty food. Only thing missing were the cracked white pepper notes that have always made this particular Hartford Zin so distinctive. Recommend drinking now (353 views) | | Tasted by Jmac56 on 11/24/2017 & rated 90 points: Nice leathery nose, a bit of band-aid initially but opened up nicely with solid tannins. (886 views) | | Tasted by Jkuryak on 9/2/2017 & rated 89 points: Very soft. Lost its power. (828 views) | | Tasted by MichielV on 7/16/2017 & rated 90 points: W smoked briskett after 2 other hartfords (Fanucchi 2011). I thought this was better as it had more body. Worth the cellaring, as this has become more structured. Drinking these early you get a lot of juice and limited structure. Drink now. Perfect combo with meal (824 views) | | Tasted by DRK III on 5/14/2015 & rated 90 points: Hot and fruity. Dark purple to garnet, full bodied, heat from the 15.7% alcohol. Showed much more complexity on day 2 with orange peel, rhubarb, herbs, black pepper and nutmeg on the nose. Strawberry in the mouth. Tannins could use another year or two to soften. (1713 views) | | Tasted by Chchen on 11/9/2014 & rated 89 points: Very sweet. Pruny. Was hoping for more balance and finesse (1580 views) | | Tasted by bzell on 9/1/2013 & rated 93 points: Very good to excellent wine took a little while to open up. Good color, dark crimson with long legs. On the nose deep notes of dark berries. On the palate raspberries, cherries that got sweeter as the wine sat. Another typical effort by Hartford. (1797 views) | | Tasted by cyak on 6/21/2013 & rated 92 points: Deep claret color. Moderate body. Moderate to long duration. The predominant flavors are a pepper-citrus blend, mostly tangerine like in the fruit department. (1747 views) | | Tasted by Jodry75225 on 4/11/2013 & rated 93 points: Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. Concentrated blackberry and boysenberry fruit aromas and flavors are a signature of this vineyard each year and complement cracked pepper and allspice nuances that linger. A multi-layered finish that seems to go on forever almost encourages a 'cult following' for this sought after single vineyard old-vine Russian River Valley Zinfandel. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Sonoma CountyMendocino CountyRussian River Valley Russian River Valley Winegrowers Association | Wikipedia |
