Disappointing as it was my last 2010 KB bottle in my collection. (610 views) | | Tasted by beerwineben on 5/3/2022 & rated 92 points: Really nice pinot, dark, concentrated cherry and berry fruits. (954 views) | | Tasted by RossS on 1/24/2022 & rated 93 points: very nice very smooth (1193 views) | | Tasted by Jim B on 1/17/2022 & rated 95 points: One of Best KBs I have ever had...been a lot! (1131 views) | | Tasted by Andrew H on 4/13/2021 & rated 91 points: Drink up - getting overly ripe. (1720 views) | | Tasted by tomlee on 3/12/2020 & rated 96 points: Crimson in color. 14.3% ABV. Pretty nose of rich red fruits, cloves, sarsaparilla and forest floor. Silky and plush. Medium body and well balanced with exceptional acidity. Cherry, boysenberry, baking spices and a touch of earth on the palate. Tremendous length on the finish. Exceptional Pinot Noir. All the accolades are so well deserved. Best over the next 1-2 years. (2192 views) | | Tasted by bonedoc on 2/16/2020 & rated 94 points: These old KB’s are still humming.... well done. (1745 views) | | Tasted by BobbaWA on 11/27/2019 & rated 92 points: Super bright, lively cherry/strawberry flavors, light texture. A bit too tart for the Thanksgiving turkey, but an interesting wine. (1633 views) | | Tasted by williamswhine on 11/23/2019 & rated 92 points: Deep full fruity nose of ripe strawberries and black raspberry. VERY dark, especially for a Pinot. Flavors of berry fruit and wood bark. Luscious long finish. Deelish with or without food (1734 views) | | Tasted by Andrew H on 11/5/2019 & rated 93 points: Drinking well now. Deep red hints of burgundy. Mouthful of ripe cherries and a hint of cranberry. Some warming vanilla and spice. Tannins integrated.
Drink ‘em if you got ‘em! (Or hold a year or two) (1439 views) | | Tasted by daniel.jay on 11/1/2019 & rated 96 points: This was a spectacular bottle - plush red fruit (strawberry, cherry), plenty of acidity for balance. Drank large yet light. (1189 views) | | Tasted by Daisy1995 on 10/6/2019 & rated 95 points: As always, KB is just perfection. (1044 views) | | Tasted by Castle Peak on 10/5/2019 & rated 92 points: Ripe and with a rich full mouth feel. This one is for those that like their Pinot Noir extracted and with very little acidity. Several of us thought it drank like a well aged Zinfandel. It was good, just on the extreme end of the spectrum for richness. Expect the lack of acidity had a lot to do with the age of the wine. (950 views) | | Tasted by nywine68 on 8/24/2019 & rated 94 points: Drinking beautifully right now. Expressive nose of ripe strawberries. silky smooth mouthfeel. The fruit is fresh and vibrant and perfectly balanced. Medium length. (1092 views) | | Tasted by adipovino on 7/15/2019 & rated 93 points: Lovely. In a perfect place now. Will miss this old KB style. (1073 views) | | Tasted by Naso on 3/3/2019 & rated 90 points: A little thin but well balanced and fresh - very nice (1189 views) | | Tasted by MLwine on 1/24/2019 & rated 93 points: I must say, this was surprisingly good. Lively, balanced, and delicious. Drinking very well right now! (1234 views) | | Tasted by Djfermentation on 11/11/2018 & rated 91 points: I liked it and the wife loved it but it ultimately is a bit over the top for my personal Pinot tastes. The ripeness showed a bit which translated to a tad more alcohol than necessary. A tasty beverage but I think it lacked the feminine grace that I have been seeking lately in Pinot noir. (1382 views) | | Tasted by williamswhine on 10/18/2018 & rated 94 points: Fruity nose of ripe strawberries and black raspberry. VERY dark, especially for a Pinot. Flavors of berry fruit and wood bark. Luscious long finish. Deelish with or without food. (1461 views) | | Tasted by nywine68 on 7/12/2018 & rated 91 points: Drank alongside the 2010 Gap’s Crown. This has a very different flavor profile. Much more red fruit compared to the dark GC. The Keefer Ranch has a more expressive nose but shares the solid structure of the GC and will easily last another 5+ years and probably much longer. (1608 views) | | Tasted by rinnocenzi on 5/28/2018 & rated 92 points: Drinking beautifully right now!! Drink up (1504 views) | | Tasted by Plabella on 5/21/2018 & rated 89 points: very fruit forward (1510 views) | | Tasted by SMZ on 3/26/2018 & rated 96 points: Phenomenal... drinking perfectly right now.....amazing flavors (1443 views) | | Tasted by rinnocenzi on 2/18/2018 & rated 92 points: Well aged Pinot, drink now (1444 views) | | Tasted by joet626 on 11/18/2017 & rated 91 points: Very good. It is unpredictable and difficult both to grow and to vinify, but results in some of the finest reds in the world. It is believed to have been selected from wild vines two thousand years ago. It is also used in the production of champagne. In fact, more Pinot Noir goes into Champagne than is used in all of the Cote d'Or! It is also grown in Alsace, Jura, Germany, the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Romania, Switzerland, Austria, Croatia, Serbia, Italy, and so forth, with varying degrees of success.
Pinot Noir is one of the world's most prestigious grapes. It is very difficult to grow and thrives well in France, especially in Champagne and Burgundy. Pinot Noir thrives less in hot areas, is picky on soil, and deserves some oak storage.
Pinot Noir, or Blauburgunder / Spätburgunder in German, is a blue grapevine - and, as the German name suggests, the grape comes originally from Burgundy in France.
The grape, which thrives in calcareous soils, is used primarily for the production of red wine, and it is widely regarded as producing some of the best wines in the world. The wine style is often medium-bodied with high fruit acidity and soft tannins. It can be quite peculiar in fragrance and taste, and not least in structure - which may be why it is referred to as "The Grapes Ballerina". Pinot Noir is also an important ingredient in sparkling wines, not least in champagne since it is fruity, has good acidity and contains relatively little tannins. The grape is considered quite demanding to grow. The class itself consists of tightly packed grapes, which makes it more sensitive to rot and other diseases.
Pinot Noir changes quite easily and is genetically unstable. It buds and matures early which results in it often being well ripened. Climate is important for this type of grape. It likes best in cool climates - in warm climates the wines can be relaxed and slightly pickled. In cooler climates, the wine can get a hint of cabbage and wet leaves, while in slightly warmer regions we often find notes of red berries (cherries, strawberries, raspberries, currants), roses and slightly green notes when the wine is young. With age, more complex aromas of forest floor, fungi and meat emerge.
In Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Hungary, it often produces light wines with less character. However, it has produced very good results in California, Oregon and New Zealand.
With its soft tannins and delicate aroma, it is excellent for white fish, chicken and light meat. For the stored wines you can serve small game. Classic duck breast is a matter of course, a Boeuf Burgundy and Pinot Noir are pure happiness.
Pinot Noir loses quality by over-harvesting. Pinot Noir is prone to diseases, especially rot and mildew. Viruses cause major problems especially in Burgundy. Pinot Noir are large round grapes with thin skins. Relatively high in alcohol content. Medium rich tannins and good with acid. As a young person, Pinot Noir has a distinctly fruity character such as raspberries, cherries and strawberries. A mature Pinot Noir, the taste is different. Cherry goes into plum and prune flavors. It smells of rotten leaves, coffee, moist forest floor and animal wine. This must be experienced. In warm climates you find boiled plum, some rustic, little acid. If the grapes are over-grown, the wine will be thin, with little color and flavor.Keefer Ranch VineyardKeefer Ranch is located in the Green Valley appellation in the southwestern corner of the Russian River Valley. The 30 acre vineyard is located on gently rolling hills in an area known to have some of the coolest weather in the Russian River Valley. Morning and evening fog, gentle afternoon breezes, cool overnight temperatures and warm afternoon sun produce grapes with terrific natural acidity and a combination of elegance and intensity. Marcy Keefer and her son Craig Strehlow grow some of the best Pinot Noir grapes in Sonoma County and we are proud to have them as members of the family. The site has a superb micro-climate, offering just the right amount of warmth during the day and very cool nights, which leads to intensely focused red fruited wine with strong natural acidity.USAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Sonoma CountyMendocino CountyRussian River Valley Russian River Valley Winegrowers Association | Wikipedia |
