Tasted by aultrawines on 10/24/2023 & rated 92 points: Agree with other comments, bright cherry and focused - enjoyable, final bottle (207 views)
Tasted by WineJ2019 on 8/3/2023: My 3rd and last bottle, and unfortunately least enjoyable. Past peak, fruit flavors have devolved and the wine just seemed tired. (301 views)
Tasted by WineJ2019 on 6/21/2023 & rated 91 points: I enjoyed this but not a wow and in a blind tasting I don’t think this would really stand out. I think this is ready to drink now. (350 views)
Tasted by travelme on 10/29/2022 & rated 92 points: Must have forgotten to log this and since it had some age decided tonight was the night. This was smooth and complex and I like MikeDildines notes on the wine but I had it scored just a a tad lower. Same general impression of the wine. I need to buy more from this producer. I always forget about them but they make such great wines. (604 views)
Tasted by WineJ2019 on 8/8/2022 & rated 92 points: Agree w other recent notes, but not going quite as high (yet) on the score as I’d like to get just a bit more secondary flavors / evolution. It did pair very well with the (rich) French meal we had it with (624 views)
Tasted by Mike Dildine on 6/16/2021 & rated 96 points: 14.5% abv. Bright burgundy red, very aromatic. On the palate, ripe cherries, orange zest, blue fruit, mint and Christmas spice. Deep, rich and long while at the same time precise, focused and light on its feet. Just superb balance and poise. A beautiful wine at the top of its game, should continue to age well for years to come. (1215 views)
Tasted by Minnesota on 4/26/2021 & rated 95 points: Drinking beautifully. Harmonious. Fruit has not fallen off to any noticeable degree. Appears can continue to age for some time. (955 views)
Tasted by grafstrb on 11/14/2020: -- decanted immediately before initial taste --
-- tasted non-blind over a couple hours --

NOSE: expressive; rich, ripe red fruits; typical Rochioli.

BODY: dark ruby color; age not noticeable on the color; medium-full bodied.

TASTE: big and oaky; alc. is noticeable; ripe & red-fruited; not quite as well-balanced as some other Rochioli Pinots I've had over the past year or two. Still youthful, with plenty of stuffing, so perhaps this will improve with more age. Next bottle in 2025. (1151 views)
Tasted by drcookie on 1/19/2020: Outstanding (1193 views)
Tasted by MikeCW on 12/27/2019 & rated 97 points: As much as you can expect from a California Pinot. Tremendous wine, drinking perfectly. Decanted for an hour. High orange peel quotient. Enjoyed at The Progress. (1106 views)
Tasted by SMHalps on 4/14/2019 & rated 93 points: My last of 3 bottles purchased directly from the winery. Popped 'n poured with my wine group, and it was a hit with everyone. Medium acidity, and notes of dried citrus and black cherry on the palate. Medium plus length finish. (1146 views)
Tasted by buckeye76 on 3/31/2019 & rated 93 points: Nice fruit in the flavor with black cherries and raspberries with some earthiness, spice, and hints of floral. Nice complexity and a long finish. The 2010 Little Hill is drinking well right now and I plan on opening my remaining bottle in the next year (1045 views)
 Tasted by TOTOM on 10/26/2018 & rated 95 points: 16sec (1192 views)
Tasted by complextra on 12/23/2016 & rated 98 points: Drinking great, it is in such a beautiful place right now. Right in that sweet spot where there is still great fruit, great color and it is all nicely integrated. (2139 views)
Tasted by SMHalps on 11/6/2016 & rated 94 points: My group's wine of the night. So much going on here. Notes of sweet red fruits, spices, maybe some citrus notes. Most of my group ordered lobster, and they drank this before the food arrived. (2017 views)
Tasted by shaferguy91 on 8/22/2016 & rated 93 points: No decant. (1978 views)
Tasted by d_chism on 5/28/2016 & rated 93 points: Tasted all 5 vineyards from 2010 over 5 days. All were delicious. This one was in a 3 way tie for second for me. Smooth, fruity, drinking well right now. (1929 views)
Tasted by Mike Dildine on 1/31/2016 & rated 95 points: 14.5% abv. Medium burgundy red, extremely expressive aromas. Cherry, raspberry and sage highlight a predominately red-fruit flavor profile. Excellent depth, concentration and intensity, lingering aftertaste. Great now, and considering Rochioli's track record, should continue to age beautifully. (2193 views)
Tasted by Dave1738 on 9/30/2015 & rated 93 points: Had this and the 2010 Sweetwater at my birthday dinner with friends. This was a richer wine and those with read meat preferred it. (1563 views)
Tasted by blaine on 5/31/2015 & rated 94 points: Spectacular. Pop and pour, impeccably balanced, medium+ bodied, tangy acidity, loonnnggggg finish. Many years ahead, very enjoyable in its youth. (1719 views)
Tasted by Screameagle on 5/13/2015 & rated 93 points: Just drinking great with a long life ahead of it. So nice now why wait. Wish I had more of these left in my cellar. (1782 views)
Tasted by Stumpy on 5/10/2015 & rated 93 points: This was a very nice wine, texturally very silky, fruit was lush but not syrupy in any way. I really liked this one. (1495 views)
Tasted by EyeDoc on 11/27/2014 & rated 93 points: Really well balanced. Pop and pour from cellar. Showed a little heat as it warmed up. Great with turkey. (2044 views)

Pinot Noir

Varietal character (Appellation America) | Varietal article (Wikipedia)
Pinot Noir is the Noble red grape of Burgundy, capable of ripening in a cooler climate, which Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot will not reliably do. It is unpredictable and difficult both to grow and to vinify, but results in some of the finest reds in the world. It is believed to have been selected from wild vines two thousand years ago. It is also used in the production of champagne. In fact, more Pinot Noir goes into Champagne than is used in all of the Cote d'Or! It is also grown in Alsace, Jura, Germany, the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Romania, Switzerland, Austria, Croatia, Serbia, Italy, and so forth, with varying degrees of success.

Pinot Noir is one of the world's most prestigious grapes. It is very difficult to grow and thrives well in France, especially in Champagne and Burgundy. Pinot Noir thrives less in hot areas, is picky on soil, and deserves some oak storage.

Pinot Noir, or Blauburgunder / Spätburgunder in German, is a blue grapevine - and, as the German name suggests, the grape comes originally from Burgundy in France.

The grape, which thrives in calcareous soils, is used primarily for the production of red wine, and it is widely regarded as producing some of the best wines in the world. The wine style is often medium-bodied with high fruit acidity and soft tannins. It can be quite peculiar in fragrance and taste, and not least in structure - which may be why it is referred to as "The Grapes Ballerina".
Pinot Noir is also an important ingredient in sparkling wines, not least in champagne since it is fruity, has good acidity and contains relatively little tannins.
The grape is considered quite demanding to grow. The class itself consists of tightly packed grapes, which makes it more sensitive to rot and other diseases.

Pinot Noir changes quite easily and is genetically unstable. It buds and matures early which results in it often being well ripened. Climate is important for this type of grape. It likes best in cool climates - in warm climates the wines can be relaxed and slightly pickled.
In cooler climates, the wine can get a hint of cabbage and wet leaves, while in slightly warmer regions we often find notes of red berries (cherries, strawberries, raspberries, currants), roses and slightly green notes when the wine is young. With age, more complex aromas of forest floor, fungi and meat emerge.

In Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Hungary, it often produces light wines with less character. However, it has produced very good results in California, Oregon and New Zealand.

With its soft tannins and delicate aroma, it is excellent for white fish, chicken and light meat. For the stored wines you can serve small game. Classic duck breast is a matter of course, a Boeuf Burgundy and Pinot Noir are pure happiness.

Pinot Noir loses quality by over-harvesting.
Pinot Noir is prone to diseases, especially rot and mildew. Viruses cause major problems especially in Burgundy.
Pinot Noir are large round grapes with thin skins. Relatively high in alcohol content. Medium rich tannins and good with acid.
As a young person, Pinot Noir has a distinctly fruity character such as raspberries, cherries and strawberries.
A mature Pinot Noir, the taste is different. Cherry goes into plum and prune flavors. It smells of rotten leaves, coffee, moist forest floor and animal wine. This must be experienced.
In warm climates you find boiled plum, some rustic, little acid.
If the grapes are over-grown, the wine will be thin, with little color and flavor.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.
