Tasted by cab on 5/7/2019: Good, great QPR - but a little past its prime. Crisp, tart chenin, a little oxidized, interesting. Just seemed a tad thin. (644 views)
Tasted by Outplaying on 1/13/2019: Waxy, slight oxidative nose. Much better on the palate. Nice acidity and salinity. Chenin notes that I always struggle to describe. Very good. (712 views)
Tasted by Winelover48 on 6/8/2016: On the nose the first impression was honey and flowers. On the palate it is repeated with a mineral core, great acidity, residual sugar helps temper the acidity. On the finish the herbal minerals carry through. (1633 views)
Tasted by brownman6 on 3/12/2016 & rated 91 points: Fine nose of pears good acidity and much better with food than for sipping. (1769 views)
Tasted by Chris Newport on 9/28/2015: Quite nice. Slight nutty/earthy flavors starting to emerge, with a bright acidic backbone keeping everything in balance. Drinking well now, but seems to have the potential to improve with more time in the cellar. (2216 views)
Tasted by Janstan on 7/30/2015 & rated 89 points: continued to improve as it was opened. Apple, floraL (1790 views)
Tasted by DanBar on 4/18/2015 & rated 92 points: Yes, agree with Zoomin Z. Wine was harder, sweeter, dessert-ier than I remember from just three months ago. Less fruity. More something-or-other sweet and interesting. Still have most of a case left to go. Cannot imagine what it will become from here. (2006 views)
Tasted by Zoomin Z on 9/13/2014 & rated 92 points: When compared to a year ago, more of a floral nose with generous fruit dominated by apples. A tiny touch of oxidation more evident now which added more complexity in a pleasing way with a hint of almond paste. Round, medium weight body, perfectly balanced with a long finish when close to room temperature. I strongly advise not to chill this wine too much, the flavors blossom at a slightly warmer temperature. (1794 views)
Tasted by chifred on 4/18/2014 & rated 91 points: No formal notes - very nice. Smooth with acidity balancing a hint of sweetness, medium to full mouthfeel. Delicious. 2 bottles gone in a flash... (2108 views)
Tasted by drinkfunkyanddance on 2/16/2014: Oh, I love this wine. The fruit has retreated to the background (quince, pear, plum). Dry honey, minerals, some chamomile thing going on. A touch of bitter on the end. Awesome and tons of character. (1996 views)
Tasted by drinkfunkyanddance on 11/11/2013: Oh, Pinon, how I've missed you. Platonic ideal of charming (aka, not serious) Vouvray. Chenin-tastic. Tender, honey/citrus tension. So delicious and ideal for fall food. (2250 views)
Tasted by pjhr on 9/22/2013 & rated 89 points: Tasty apple, citrus, and floral notes on the nose and palate with moderate finish. (2247 views)
Tasted by Chris Newport on 9/12/2013: As always, a really good bottle of Vouvray. Not as structured as Huet Demi-Secs, but almost more enjoyable, at least at this young age. Goes down very easily. (1741 views)
Tasted by WST on 8/22/2013 & rated 87 points: Nice, definitely demi sec. Didn't have the polish, lift or verve of the '10 Huet Sec that followed. The score I gave might be biased negatively due to the comparison. (1580 views)
Tasted by Eric Guido on 7/23/2013 & rated 90 points: The nose was refreshing and vibrant with aromas of yellow flowers, raw honey, wet stone and ripe pear. On the palate it was silky and smooth, showing crisp, ripe apple with a zest of lemon, inner florals and a bitter acidic twang that cut through the ripe flavors and left the senses wonderfully refreshed. The finish was seemed to drop off quickly, leaving behind it, a sweet floral and citrus spritz. (1810 views)
Tasted by AllRed on 6/26/2013 & rated 89 points: Opened by thelostverse at dinner. Pale straw color. Notes of mineral, pear, melon and honeysuckle. Bright acidity & flavors of pear and minerals. Nice finish. (1220 views)
| Tasted by thelostverse on 6/26/2013 & rated 90 points: Opened at Anvil. Notes of melon and stone fruit. Acidity a bit out of balance for me at this point. I think I'll hold the next bottle for a year or two.
Two days later, this has picked up green apples and the acidity is in check. Give this some time. (1255 views) |
Tasted by redwhiteandrich on 5/18/2013 & rated 92 points: Zing! Steely mineralled quince. Acids are crazy. Cant wait for this to age. (1255 views)
| Tasted by drwine2001 on 5/15/2013: Light yellow. Citrus and pear scents. Not as dense as some Chenin Blanc, off dry, good but not searing acidity. Bitter orange finish. Pretty much as described by Eric Asimov in today's NY Times, that is, very good-of course, this cost me $11 for a glass in a restaurant rather than the $19.99 retail price for a bottle. | Tasted by snipes on 4/22/2013: Nice wine, but would benefit with some more time, still had a few harsh edges. Paired nicely with creole spiced shrimp. Will buy again. (1283 views) |
Tasted by markfitz on 3/29/2013: Has to be one of the best value wines out there. Lovely floral notes waft forth as the cork is pulled. There are the usual precise, clean citrus flavours but with a bitter quince note that is balanced by a honeyed sweetness. Matched dinner perfectly: scallops and prawns with soy and honey glazed broccoli. There is length and body to this too, as it finishes with quite a refreshing zap of acidity. All that for barely more than a tenner! Buy by the case! (1242 views)
Tasted by oolah on 3/24/2013 & rated 88 points: Off-dry, but sharp with good balance. For me, Pinon=Vouvray. He sets the standard, and this is a great example. (1164 views)
Tasted by elconde on 2/21/2013 & rated 95 points: Outstanding! Acidic and sweet at the same time. Nice minerality to cut the aftertaste. (1270 views)
Tasted by Zoomin Z on 12/29/2012 & rated 91 points: Light, but not wimpy. Perfectly balanced fruit, minerals, acidity and the merest trace of sweetness, so not too dry. Perfect complement to a wide variety of fish dishes (canned herring in oil and/or tomatoes and onions, to shrimp cocktail to seafood cakes), also salads and vinaigrettes. This is why I like French whites over California ones. Drink now (1341 views)
| Tasted by Chris Newport on 6/27/2012: This really pushed all the right buttons for me, just a fantastic bottle of wine. Better than the '09 at this point I would say, but only just. Everything about this wine makes me happy. Quite aromatic at this stage, with a perfect balance of acidity and fruit with the faintest touch of sweetness in the background. The core of this wine is just beautiful, the interplay between the acidity and fruit is just perfect. I've said it before: the Huet Vouvrays are perhaps "better"... more material, more structure... but for drinking young... I'll take these Pinon wines every time. I'm sure this will improve with time in the cellar (although a glass savedd for the second day was considerably less expressive, for whatever that's worth), and I plan on saving a few bottles, but do yourself a favor and drink some of this young.
