Tasted by hutch on 12/25/2019 & rated 89 points: Always nice to try a Ridge with some age. However, can't say this is something to search out for. Still tastes quite young, with some savory characters mixing with the fruit. Shows a good deal of heat and bitterness from the alcohol. It's a good wine, just not a great one (1417 views)
Tasted by dkfinancial on 12/21/2019 & rated 92 points: Profile here reeks of Syrah and of Grenache, but moreso the Syrah. Black pepper, iron and a bit of smoke frame the core. Floral aromatics as well but subtle & not blousey. Red & black berry + plum fruit. Medium body and acidity. Very well balanced. This is better than most northern Rhône blends. Drinking fabulously right now. What a great wine. (1332 views)
Tasted by pgm on 7/26/2019 & rated 90 points: Not quite what it used to be but it is still a tasty wine, with black fruit and appealing tertiary flavors. Time to drink up. (1416 views)
Tasted by sjsjets on 9/21/2017 & rated 90 points: Served a bottle at a family dinner. Gone in a flash with a request for another bottle. Sturdy and fruity - dark berries. Still in prime. (2140 views)
Tasted by Jackasic on 7/5/2017 & rated 89 points: probably past its prime, cork broke upon removal. Tasted and smelled of stewed fruits. (2144 views)
Tasted by vinorsk on 6/30/2017: Opened up day two after several hours. Jammy black and red fruit. Strong tannins and acidity. Nice. (1540 views)
Tasted by bjschmitt on 3/26/2017 & rated 91 points: Served with Orzo/ricotta meatballs in marinara sauce.
Garnet, with touch of brick at the rim, color remains deep and rich.
Nose of plum and dark fruit, sweet spice and a touch of violets.
Palate of plum, pepper, velvety smooth; deep and balanced, long finish. A beautifully mature wine without being too heavy. (1696 views)
Tasted by moxielady on 2/4/2017 & rated 90 points: Dark fruit, full body, jam mouthfeel but hint of acid balances, perfect to drink now. (1718 views)
Tasted by vinorsk on 10/17/2016 & rated 90 points: Drinking very well in October 2016. The intensity, acidity, black fruit, smooth tannins and sweet spice are all singing together. It is medium bodied and delicious. Drank with a beer can chicken and black rice. (1282 views)
Tasted by aaronmphoto on 8/16/2016 & rated 75 points: Eh. A bit too light. Seemed to have lost its flavor. Drink if you haven't yet (1206 views)
Tasted by WineCPA on 8/5/2016 & rated 90 points: Drinking nicely now. Lots of dark fruit and still tannic, but enjoyable with a decant. (1248 views)
Tasted by Tim Heaton on 7/16/2016: PnP, and in a great place right now, with the oak and fruit in good harmony. Rich, but well-lifted, too, this was drank on its own and drained by a bunch of novices (relatives that had never had anything from Ridge) in record time. Drink now and for the next 3-4 years. (1643 views)
Tasted by bjschmitt on 4/10/2016 & rated 91 points: With grilled flat iron steak, roast potatoes, roast asparagus.
Nice ruby, no longer opaque with just a touch of brick at the rim.
Smoke and spice, violets on the nose.
Palate: smooth, touch of acid, medium body, dry, a touch of licorice and some blueberry. Good length. (1386 views)
Tasted by bin905 on 12/18/2015 & rated 90 points: Exhibits a Northern Rhone character with a focused body and plenty of earth and mineral flavor. (1445 views)
Tasted by ebert on 12/14/2015 & rated 88 points: Good flavors but flat on the finish (1334 views)
Tasted by VinoPKM on 11/28/2015 & rated 92 points: Big tasty wine! Very complex with a lot going on. Dark berries, smoke, cedar, pepper and lavender. Wow, I liked this one a lot and didn't notice the tannins nor the alc. Bravo Ridge! Immediately went to Ridge's website to buy more- not available.

50-50 blend (1681 views)
Tasted by DugyDog on 11/23/2015 & rated 91 points: Blue/Blackberry pie on the palate with some spice/pepper notes. Drinking very well (1411 views)
Tasted by urban_dk on 4/25/2015 & rated 90 points: Cedar, blueberry pie and pepper on the nose. Midpalate has loads of dark berries and lavender. Finish is still a bit too tannic - I opened this too soon. Could use a couple of extra years in the cellar. (1657 views)
Tasted by Italiana on 4/8/2015: Foamy purple when poured. Initial chemical smell, dissapated quickly. Soft fruit. Nice casual red. (1426 views)
Tasted by JDRFoster on 11/22/2014 & rated 90 points: In a good place, with tannins nicely integrated, overall good balance. Should continue to evolve for several more years. (1782 views)
Tasted by pgm on 8/10/2014 & rated 92 points: Saline, blueberry nose with sweet cedar spice, followed up in the mouth with blackberry and blueberry fruit. The finish is beautiful, with pure blueberry and candied lavender, and it lasts a good long time. Powerful all through. Surprised how good this is drinking right now. (1949 views)
Tasted by jrlamia on 2/16/2014 & rated 89 points: Dark red. Black cherry, pepper nose. Well integrated tannins. Smooth, blueberry & spice on the palate. Nice finish. Paired well with food. (2220 views)
Tasted by Skamanrev on 12/8/2013 & rated 87 points: Is drinkable now. Strong tannins needs food. Drinking with pot roast. (2016 views)
Tasted by Italiana on 11/12/2013: Although I don't often try wines so soon after release/receipt, decided to give this one a whirl. Drank over three nights, and must say that, for me, the third night was the best, all of the initial disjointedness, including some bitterness, resolved into a very smooth and enjoyable glass of wine. Speaks to a fairly long drinking window, perhaps. (2114 views)
Tasted by MRichman on 11/2/2013: Very good. (1801 views)

Ridge

Producer website | Wikipedia

Ridge Vineyards is a California winery specializing in premium Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, and Chardonnay wines. Ridge produces wine at two winery locations in northern California. The original winery facilities are located at an elevation of 2,300 feet (700 m) on Monte Bello Ridge in the Santa Cruz Mountains AVA near Cupertino, California. The other Ridge winery facilities are at Lytton Springs in the Dry Creek Valley AVA of Sonoma County.

Red Rhone Blend

Read about the different grapes used to produce red and white Rhone wines
On CellarTracker, Red Rhone Blend is the term for a wine consisting of two or more of the traditional 13 Southern Rhone grape varieties. Typically it's the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre or Cinsault grapes, but can also contain the Muscardin, Counoise, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Picpoul, Roussanne, Terret Noir, Picardan or Vaccarese grapes.

A 'food' wine. Lacking pretension and intended for local consumption with local cuisine. Lacks the 'high' notes on a Bordeaux, more earthy and sharper so often a better partner to meat dishes with a sauce.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.
