| Community Tasting Notes (average 93.2 pts. and median of 93 pts. in 20 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by bobadopolis on 4/28/2020: High alcohol on the nose, but dark rich fruit dominates the early palate. Rather hot again end palate, but otherwise very smooth and well integrated. Really excellent finish that goes on and on, changing from darker black to red fruit and some earth. I like this wine quite a bit, my only complaint is that it is rather alcohol forward, which otherwise detracts from its elegance. Extremely enjoyable overall. (1372 views) | | Tasted by SMHalps on 2/26/2020 & rated 93 points: Steak and Syrah Night (Tuscany Steakhouse): Opened, but not decanted for about 45 minutes before pouring. Rich, smooth, and more like a Northern Rhone Syrah, than a CA or AU wine. Very enjoyable. Prior bottles felt very full bodied, but this one felt more mid weight. (1715 views) | | Tasted by bobadopolis on 10/25/2019 & rated 93 points: Decanted for about 2 hours, spectacular (1518 views) | | Tasted by SMHalps on 9/18/2019 & rated 93 points: My previous bottle of this was flawed, so I was a little nervous opening this one. But all is well. Although it tasted just clunky enough to downgrade it a point from the earlier bottles that I had enjoyed. Still, a favorite with my wine group. (1658 views) | | Tasted by SMHalps on 6/27/2019 flawed bottle: My 6th bottle of this wine, and the first one that I'm not rating 94 points. I think this bottle was suffering from some oxidation, giving it a slightly bitter, and one note mouth feel. I have a few more bottles and they should still have a few years of life ahead of them. I'm hoping it was just a little bottle variation due to air getting into the bottle at some point. FYI, if this wasn't flawed, I would give it an 88 point score. (1767 views) | | Tasted by SMHalps on 9/5/2018 & rated 94 points: Opened but not decanted for over an hour before pouring. This was my wine groups 2nd favorite wine of the night, losing out to the 2007 Paolo Bea Pagliaro by one vote. This is probably my all time favorite Italian Syrah. (1121 views) | | Tasted by SMHalps on 7/26/2018 & rated 94 points: Opened, but not decanted at a NYC restaurant. I continue to enjoy this, and feel it holds a spot between the Northern Rhone and California Syrahs. (1179 views) | | Tasted by SlimShaney on 1/14/2018 & rated 92 points: Having asked numerous Italian friends they never heard of any national Syrah. But here it is. And this now feels to me like the right drinking window.
More like shiraz (thankfully) than syrah. Quite rich and big, full of suprises. Really is good, although my prior experiences found it left wanting. (1538 views) | | Tasted by SMHalps on 12/10/2017 & rated 94 points: A treat! It went really well with Sunday night Lasagna. Seems to be partway between CA and Northern Rhone Syrahs. (1442 views) | | Tasted by Peck on 7/7/2017 & rated 95 points: Agree totally with former two speakers Very impressing wine Balanced fruity but not too sweet Lovely tannins (1916 views) | | Tasted by SMHalps on 6/21/2017 & rated 94 points: Blind tasting, Italian Syrahs vs. New World Syrahs. Either this or the 2011 Le Macchiole Scrio, was the WOTN. I preferred the Duemani. Expressive nose, and the wine got better as the night went on. Long finish. Definitely more "new world" than "old", as it was closer to Australia than the Northern Rhone in flavor, nose and finish. (1446 views) | | Tasted by SMHalps on 5/5/2017 & rated 94 points: Popped 'n poured in a restaurant. While it immediately tasted really good, it improved a bunch in the first 15 minutes and continued to improve of the 90 minutes it took us to finish the bottle.
The nose had blackberry, blackcurrant, and black cherry. Medium tannin with good structure, and a medium long finish. It seems to hold a place between a California and Northern Rhone Syrah. (1310 views) | | Tasted by shadow on 2/19/2017 & rated 96 points: K ching, my favorite, its a Syrah, girl wearing tight leather and a wet tea shirt, buy this by the case, be happy. (1909 views) | | Tasted by hkm520240 on 4/27/2015 & rated 92 points: Duemani Portfolio Tasting (Crystal Wines): Tasted during Duemani portfolio wine tasting. Dark and intense, Showing aromas of blackberry, blackcurrant, black cherry, cola, some dirt, vanilla and sweet toasted oak. Dense and showing lots of structure, but fresh on palate, along with black cherry, balsamic, rustic and earthy undertones. Long finish with pepper aftertaste and firm tannins. (2028 views) | | Tasted by moreplease on 8/31/2014 & rated 92 points: Gorgeous deep rich purple, almost a pomerol. On the nose oaky but not unpleasantly so. Characterisic blackcurrant, petrol (a little hotness perhaps) but also a hint of nut.. Is it walnut. Rich creamy palate, tannins are smooth. I was apprehensive having read Jancis Robinsons review but I really enjoyed this, yes it is sweet and Oaked but that's part it's make up... Tarted up finish... No really for me. (1851 views) | | Tasted by Herschel Krustofski on 12/22/2013 & rated 94 points: A very elegant Syrah. Concentrated with a silky texture. Rather accessible after 2 hours and evolves nicely for another 2.5 hours after that. Very rich, cherry, wild berry marmalade, liquorice and much more. Should keep for another decade. Already great, but best to wait a little longer. Drink 2015-2024
The previous time I had it was at an Italian wine tasting event. Given that this was pretty much the only Syrah I had (alongside the 2010), this was bound to capture my attention, despite an otherwise exhausted palate. Now I have had an opportunity to try it out without the all the distraction, with and without food (works well with game casserole, btw). Followed winemaker recommendation - opened 2-3 hours in advance, but haven't decanted (but pour carefully since some small sediment particles are present). (2020 views) | | Tasted by Herschel Krustofski on 9/2/2013 & rated 94 points: Plum, fig, cherry, licorice notes. Beginning to be approachable, but best to wait 2015-2021. Happy to see this Syrah at the Justerini Spain/Italy wine tasting Sep 2, 2013, London. 94-95. (1939 views) |
