I have been having more than my share lately. :-( (802 views) | | Tasted by NostraBacchus on 7/27/2013 flawed bottle: corked (1743 views) | | Tasted by Loren Sonkin on 11/15/2012 & rated 91 points: TN: Barbaresco, Barolo, Ridge + (Pranzos): Pop and poured, this is not ready yet. Ruby/purple in color. The nose has lots of dark cherries, some tar and roses. Not that big. On the palate, this took some time to open up. As it was the last wine of the night this never really got a chance. Still, it is very good right now, just primary. More dark cherries on the palate. Nice balance. (1581 views) | | Tasted by Loren Sonkin on 4/9/2011 & rated 91 points: Dinner with friends: This was popped and poured. It would have benefited from decanting as it just seemed to get better and was gone. Ruby/purple in color. The nose is dusty, cherries, and some tar. Medium bodied. Showing some complexities, but really still kind of young. I had 6 of these and not made it to full maturity but all were really enjoyed. Cherries with some forest floor notes. Excellent acidity. Long finish. (2258 views) |
| Montaribaldi Producer websiteNebbioloNebbiolo is a red grape indigenous to the Piedmont region of Italy in the Northwest. The grape can also be found in other parts of the world, though they are not as respected.
Nebbiolo is often considered the "king of red wines," as it is the grape of the famed wines of Barolo DOCG, Barbaresco DOCG, and Roero DOCG. It is known for high tannins and acidity, but with a distinct finesse. When grown on clay, Nebbiolo can be very powerful, tannic, and require long aging periods to reach its full potential. When grown on sand, the grape exhibits a more approachable body with more elegant fruit and less tannins, but still has high aging potential.
"Nebbiolo" is named for the Italian word, "nebbia", which means "fog", in Italian and rightfully so since there is generally a lot of fog in the foothills of Piedmont during harvest.
Nebbiolo is a late-ripening variety that does best in a continental climate that boasts moderate summers and long autumns. In Piedmont, Nebbiolo is normally harvested in October.
