Community Tasting Notes (average 90.1 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 150 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Paul852 on 1/1/2024 & rated 85 points: Briefly, this seemed a bit over the hill to me: lacking acidity, palate very nutty, but lacking fruit, a moderately long slightly woody finish. Not unpleasant, but certainly not worth twice the price of most bottles of fizz. (437 views)
Tasted by super007 on 11/18/2023: Very toasty, nutty, lot of nice rich mouthfeel (551 views)
Tasted by DTK Rockstar on 2/3/2023 & rated 87 points: Very nutty. Green apple and citrus. Feels well balanced. Long finish. Probably won’t last much longer though. (1622 views)
Tasted by Tonygil on 1/2/2023 & rated 92 points: At its peak, wonderful. (1796 views)
Tasted by Condrieu82 on 11/23/2022 & rated 93 points: Appealing nose with light mousse, lemon blossom, some yeast. Not particularly fragrant. The palate is very exciting, with still very good acidity, nice mousse, toast, fresh lemony notes, some ginger, and a long, lingering ending with oak to balance the acidity. This wine is singing now and it really beat my expectations - it's fresh but starting to mature for a more complex experience. (1977 views)
Tasted by acheng on 12/21/2021 & rated 91 points: Drinking well.better than I remembered. (2431 views)
Tasted by aquacongas on 11/23/2021 & rated 93 points: not blind
Small vertikal tasting of Moet Collection 04,02,96,92 and 90 Magnum

04, deg. 2020
A lot citric aromas, some roasted notes, salty, reductive and a bit tight, tangerine, a bit smokieness and and the end creamy. 93

02, deg 2017
elegant, fresh, some aging signs, balanced and creamy. 51% CH, 26% PN and 23% PM

96, deg. 2017
for me the strongest with 90 Mg, elegant, fresh, round, nutty and toast, similar to DP. at the end still lemon, cracking acidity as expected fora 1996. 94-95

92, deg 2004
not in perfect condition, some mushrooms. 91

90, Magnum, deg. 2004
At his peak. Juicy, some roasted aromas, very balanced, at least 10 more years. 95 (1862 views)
Tasted by jdporter3 on 10/30/2021 & rated 89 points: And now, for our 35th Anniversary. Perhaps past its prime but still drinks well; awfully light for my tastes. (1691 views)
Tasted by Gorkem on 10/26/2020 & rated 92 points: Quince pear
Yellow Apple
Citrus
Minerality salt
Honey (riped fully developed vintage) so fuller body
Toast brioche
Very creamy on palate buttery
Nutty and almond (2403 views)
Tasted by Frederyck on 5/31/2020: Way over the hill and not that good anymore. We should have had this one five years ago at least. Almost flat, with heavy sherry tones. (831 views)
Tasted by rwpalmer on 5/17/2020 & rated 91 points: Maybe not the most concentrated but this had a lovely complex hazelnut, brioche nose and on this occasion I was not troubled by an excessive sensation of sweetness. (2775 views)
Tasted by JohnFOZ on 4/24/2020 & rated 85 points: Drank in noosa and enjoyed it - cork perfect and did not taste any mustiness (2680 views)
Tasted by Nels+ on 3/13/2020 & rated 88 points: Seems to be over the hill... (1908 views)
Tasted by RajeshA on 5/12/2019 & rated 90 points: Nice yellow hue with very fine bubble.

Nose: Chardonnay come through, fuit confit, apricots, peachy.. Nose is very ample and present. Makes you want to go one step further and taste it.

Taste: Fruity, fully bodied with depth and yet refreshing ... maybe the only "defect" that it lacks a little in length. But it is a true pleasure to drink. Has to rank among the champagnes that I liked, especially given that I was afraid that it was past it prime. I believe it is around prime now and should / canoe drunk pretty soon for those who have it cellared. (3519 views)
Tasted by Solkongen on 4/29/2018 & rated 80 points: Lack of taste, almost feels "dead" on tongue. Probably over-aged and matured. (5368 views)
Tasted by Rupert on 4/1/2018: Tighter and more reserved than the 02 we had the previous day. Deep and serious and needs time right now. (5214 views)
Tasted by rwpalmer on 11/4/2017 & rated 85 points: Pale colour. I really wanted to like this but just too sweet, lacking definition and zest. (6359 views)
Tasted by acheng on 8/8/2017 & rated 90 points: Not sure if it's improved since last bottle. Granny Smith and lemon peel. (7165 views)
Tasted by chbeaumont on 7/5/2017 & rated 85 points: This was rather ordinary. Lacks real energy. On the downslope? (6548 views)
Tasted by PCVT on 12/22/2016 & rated 90 points: Petites bulles, jolis aromes évolués et bonne persistance (5537 views)
Tasted by jeffreylubowski on 12/18/2016 & rated 90 points: I've heard the 2004 were good at bringing out the green apple flavors, but I didn't find that to be the case with this one. It actually seemed a bit advanced and almost round, bready, yeasty, nutty. Small bubbles and delicious. Excellent wine but perhaps not for the complete acid heads. Drink up. (5836 views)
Tasted by jdporter3 on 11/1/2016: Agree with others that there is not much more time to cellaring this. Pretty little bubbles and very pale straw color. Whiff of yeast and some pear with light mineral notes. SShort finish. Best as an aperitif. Drank for our 30th, as Moet was our wedding champagne. Nice with Chinese! No need to rerate. (4512 views)
Tasted by ozyloy on 10/4/2016 & rated 91 points: Clear, light gold in glass.
A nose of ripe apple, citrus lemon and lime, almonds, biscuit.
On the palate this was dry, with medium(+) acidity and a medium body. Medium(+) flavour intensity, with apples, pineapples, nuts and brioche apparent.
This was nice drinking, but sat a bit heavier in the mouth and felt rather more developed than I would have expected. Do not hold much longer. (3865 views)
Tasted by Derek Darth Taster on 10/4/2016 & rated 92 points: Tim + Ching Birthday 2016 (Extra Space): No expectations at all on seeing the bottle. But on tasting this is really not bad.
Appearance is clear, pale intensity, gold colour. Fading fast bubbles.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of buttery nuts, brioche, saline minerality. Developed.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol (12.5%), medium body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of almond nuts, butter, saline minerality, ripe lemon fruit. Medium+ finish.
Good quality. Nuts and minerality is definitely nice here, but losing fruit already, and tastes older than you would think for 2004. Becoming more like an aged white burgundy. Time to drink up and enjoy. (4218 views)
Tasted by Milliontown on 6/19/2016 & rated 94 points: Didn't have huge expectations for this but it was terrific. Seems mature and reminds me of great white burgundy in it's flinty minerally quality. Brioche, lemon curd, green apple and peach. Palate soft as silk with crystal clear bubbles and lasting acidity. This is mature and drinking great right now. I wouldn't be cellaring it long term. (3179 views)

France - When it comes to wine, France stands alone. No other country can beat it in terms of consistent quality and diversity. And while many of its Region, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne most obviously, produce wine as rare, as sought-after and nearly as expensive as gold, there are just as many obscurities and values to be had from little known appellations throughout the country. To learn everything there is to know about French wine would take a lifetime. To understand and appreciate French wine, one only has to begin tasting them. Click for a list of bestselling items from all of France.
Sub-Region:

Champagne - The French region of Champagne (including the cities of Rheims, Épernay, and Aÿ) was the first region in the world to make sparkling wine in any quantity. Today, the name of the region is synonymous with the finest of all sparkling wines, and wine-making traditions of Champagne have become role models for sparkling wine producers, worldwide. Surprisingly, the region of Champagne is now responsible for only one bottle in 12 of all sparkling wine produced. Styles of champagne range in sweetness ranging from an extra brut or brut 0, to the basic brut to demi sec to doux; some houses produce single vintage champagnes and others produce non-vintage (or incorporate wines/grapes of multiple vintages), often to preserve a specific taste; combinations of grape varietals; and colors, including a rosé. There are several sub-appellations, including the Valley of the Marnes river running from Épernay west, Massif de Saint-Thierry north and west of Rheims, Valley of the Ardre, the Mountains of Rheims (between Rheims and Épernay), Côte des Blancs, Côte de Sézanne, and Côte des Bar in the South. Champagne wine only uses three grape varietals (cépages): Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier.
