Tasted by Neurowine1 on 10/30/2023: w/ Indian food. Still enjoy this wine but this btl seems a bit leaner and stripped down compared to past ones. Either btl variation or this is now a bit passed its prime. Have one more I will try to get to soon (464 views)
Tasted by Neurowine1 on 1/14/2023: Another check-in with this one. Really appreciating the tangy but dark syrah fruit, umani flavoring, and polished finish. Balance is sublime. This is the entry level Cornas from Durand but I think it is really impressive and drinking wonderfully. On a rainy night in the Bay Area, this is perfect. (488 views)
Tasted by Neurowine1 on 3/18/2022 & rated 92 points: I have amassed a really large trove of Cornas over the years, but seem to rarely drink them. Almost every time I do, however, no matter how modest in origin, I am reminded how great they are. This wine is no exception. Nose is amazing, effusive, almost room filling, animal notes, a little brett. Gorgeous sweet black cherry fruit, leather, tar, and dried flowers. Tremendous depth but really well balanced. Persistent finish with melty tannins. A richness here that makes it hard to drink more than a couple glasses (but I am trying!) There is nothing wrong here and so many things that are good. I continue to think Cornas has one of the very best Q:P ratios in the world. (617 views)
Tasted by Fractalage on 3/13/2021: Wow, just an amazing wine.
There's horses ass, and big silky fruit, with meats, cured meats, just excellent.
Love this.
Poured at a party and it was the best of the night. (884 views)
Tasted by vitroman on 3/3/2021 & rated 91 points: Very round and drinking ver well. Could go 5-10 more years easily. (782 views)
Tasted by efeldhake@yahoo.com on 12/8/2019 & rated 90 points: Deep garnet and color. Nose of graphite, dark berries, and into leather. Taste of dark berries, iron, meat, and leather. Good acidity. Medium tannins.Very tight and uninvolved. Seems to have a long life ahead of it. Revisit in 3 years, with a likely drinking window of 5-12 years. (1005 views)
Tasted by Not647f on 10/20/2019: First sip after p'n'p and it was really nice, but the next glass was quite shut down, hard, ungenerous. After it was open for a while--and when we were well into eating--it re-opened. It's clearly Syrah, and also clearly not from a super warm area; I do think it has some rusticity. I'd hold off opening the next one for a while. This has lots of years ahead of it, so I might just wait till quite a bit of time goes by. (910 views)
Tasted by COWineLover on 3/28/2019 & rated 90 points: At first I was not planning a tasting note. I read DUCHAMP’s note from April 2018. I found a similar tasting experience. (1039 views)
Tasted by Dalex on 1/7/2019 & rated 91 points: This was great. Drank fantastic with no decant but was better after an hour of air. Not the rustic cornas that is typical. This was more refined. (921 views)
Tasted by duchamp on 4/21/2018 & rated 92 points: (from memory) Dark purple, intense nose of red and black fruit complicated by spice, earth and violets, sweet on the attack with big dark fruits balanced by juicy acidity and fine tannins, finish is maybe not super complex but long and lush with mineral undertones, just starting it's journey and an amazing QPR (1411 views)
Tasted by Fractalage on 4/19/2018 & rated 91 points: Black to dark purple with very slight brick edge, this cuvée opened to lots of savory barnyard, flowers, purple and black fruit.
It had fine tannins rendering the juice lush and soft, which had a cooling licorice mouth feel build up the more I drank.
But I didn't drink much as I spat most onto the painting.
7.8/10 (1201 views)
Tasted by tmoritz1 on 3/29/2018 & rated 90 points: Deep color- Nose of fig and dried plum-mediou finish and smooth- Very good example of a hearty Sarah (1111 views)
Tasted by lkilpio on 1/1/2018 & rated 92 points: This full-bodied, pleasant, structured and fruity wine has a character that is quite similar to the Cornas Empreintes 2010 by the same producer. It is a bit less mouth-filling and thick, though, displaying also slightly more currant aromas and flavors, in addition to the blackberry notes that are present in both wines. All in all, this is a very convincing and high-quality Cornas with some New-World influence. It is fully ready to drink now, but you may store it still for years. (1291 views)
Tasted by ucbeau on 8/5/2017 & rated 90 points: Opened 2 hours prior to serving. Not decanted.

Pours a bright purple with garnet flecks. Big, expansive nose of black olive, smoky bacon fat, blackberry, blueberry, and peppery spice.

Rich and full bodied on the palate, but it was never too heavy. Plenty of acidity lifted the fruit and savory elements. Very fine-grained tannins, but they were still young. The finish was persistent, with equal parts ripe black fruit and drying tannins.

Overall this was wonderful stuff, definitely on the modern side but so well balanced and complete. A few more years will only serve to hep the wine. (1361 views)
Tasted by Number51 on 5/16/2015: Coming across as modern in style, Durand's 2010 Cornas exhibits gobs of dark fruit with sweet tannins. Classic Northern Rhone animal funk is detectable on the nose, but it easily gets buried in wine’s rich fruitiness. This young Cornas shows freshness that is elevated by its pine tree forest note.
Many solid underlying elements are apparent, yet they don't mold together in harmony, perhaps due to the young age of the wine or the warm weather, so the judgment is reserved for now. My next bottle may turn out to be 91-93 points quality, but I will not bet on it for at least three years. (2496 views)
Tasted by BklynNeophyte on 2/8/2015 & rated 87 points: Not as nuanced this time around. (2506 views)
Tasted by BklynNeophyte on 12/26/2014 & rated 90 points: Consistent and low outstanding. Great aromatics. Dark red and blue fruit, and,.......my favorite: road tar after a teenager builds a fire on pavement. (2520 views)
Tasted by twfwinedude on 12/25/2014: This is the first opened of six that I purchased. Just beginning to come into its own, this is a big, concentrated Syrah with great complexity and a spicy finish. I'm looking forward to watching its development with the other five bottles. (2371 views)
Tasted by tmoritz1 on 7/30/2014: - Ruby color. (1286 views)
Tasted by tmoritz1 on 7/30/2014 & rated 90 points: - Crimsom color with medium forming legs and aromas of tobacco and blackberry. It's somewhat balanced and has flavours of blackberry and prune with a medium body. Flabby texture with a medium finish. (2409 views)
Tasted by raydawgone on 7/27/2014 & rated 94 points: Nose of tar & diesel fuel. Fresh cut violets, gamey with loads of black fruit. Really entering a distinct drink stage! (1171 views)
Tasted by BordeauxBuff on 4/19/2014 & rated 87 points: Decanted for 4 hours. Lots of heat on the palate as well as the finish. Massive tannins that cover up the fruit. Old world style. Needs several years to flesh out. (1355 views)
Tasted by oropeza on 4/12/2014 & rated 90 points: Heavy barnyard aroma on pop ("like sticking your head up a horse's ***" is what she said, and was right as usual), lasts a few minutes, then it's all black fruit on the nose. Black fruit and herbs in the mouth, moving towards earthiness with a good deal of tannic chew. This is much nicer than I was expecting considering the age... I am a sucker for Cornas though. Even the horse's *** part. (1274 views)
Tasted by BklynNeophyte on 1/10/2013 & rated 91 points: Beautiful cornas, but it needs a few years. Nicely balanced, not a great nose (a bit of tar and dark red fruits) and strong taste on night one. Beautifully balanced on night two, showing a wonderfully refined taste profile, with almost all of the too sweet fruit of night one fading into the balance.

4 on the AF scale. (1996 views)
Tasted by raydawgone on 1/1/2013 & rated 92 points: Dark, opaque color. Flint lock & diesel fuel on nose. Off dry with tart, crisp acidity. High, dry tannins. Fleshy, liquid smoke, cured meats with some blackberry, although fruit is subdued at this point. Ash & gravely rock on long, lingering finish. Has potential to hit 95 points over next 3-5 years. Syrah

Varietal article (Wikipedia) | (Wines Northwest)

Note that some producers in the Northern Rhone distinguish between simply Syrah and "Serine", the latter described as ‘an ancient clone of Syrah, the berries of which are more oval-shaped and less deeply pigmented than Syrah’ by producer Tardieu-Laurent.

Guide to the wines and appellations of the Northern Rhone Valley -

The Rhône Valley/Le Vins de la Vallée du Rhône (Comité Interprofession des vins AOC Côtes et vallée du Rhône)

Regional History:
Phocaean Greeks established viticulture in the Rhone as far back as 600 BC, but until the 14th century the wines were not seen outside the region. The establishment of the Avignonese Papacy (1305-1377) brought fame to the region's wine-so much so that their Burgundian neighbors to the north banned wines from the Rhone in 1446, a measure that effectively cut off trade with England and other Northern European markets for over 200 years. Stretching southward from Lyon to just south of Avignon, the Rhone produces a wide variety of wines, with the appellations north of Valence producing the least (in volume), and the towns south of Montelimar producing prodigious amounts. As in other regions, the most interesting wines come from small farms. Saint-Joseph, in the northern Rhone, extends for some distance between Condrieu in the north to Saint-Peray in the south. The reds are made from Syrah and the rare whites from Marsanne and Roussanne, and Viognier.
