| Community Tasting Notes (average 90.6 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 8 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by derekastoria on 8/22/2020: From a plot of old vines in Schlossberg and bottled as a different cuvee. Medium golden yellow, typical riesling nose with citrus fruit backed by mineral and some petrol nose, but on the fuller side and not so "chemical". On the palate it is lovely - very well balanced with medium body wrapping the palate nicely. Hard to find a flaw or angle - it is just so balanced and completed. Medium+ aftertaste and medium+ complexity. Off dry.
It's not the riesling with the longest aftertaste or biggest complexity that last forever - but the balance is just flawless - it's like a perfect circle. Very nicely done, tons of life ahead. 17+/20. (566 views) | | Tasted by SteveHyde on 7/6/2019 flawed bottle: Maderized. A bit surprising for a 99 Riesling. Will open my last bottle soon to see if it's in better shape. (674 views) | | Tasted by jhack1961 on 6/5/2017 & rated 93 points: Wow - big upgrade from my previous bottle. Really complex nose, lots of botrytis, key lime, slate and minerals - it seems to morph among the purity of a top quality Mosel, the lushness of a new world Late Harvest (Phelps,Firestone) and a top Alsace Vendange Tardives. Palate is rich but not sweet, could use a touch more acid for balance but overall perfect for food pairing. Ready to drink, I'd say well stored bottles will keep 2-3 or so more years. In the mouth very rich, clearly well made but perhaps stored improperly? A lot going on but this falls short of the wines clear potential. Will drink my other bottle soon.... Lower acidity that I expected. (2875 views) | | Tasted by Chateaunewf on 2/13/2008 & rated 86 points: My second bottle of this wine and it continues to befuddle me. It seems neither here nor there. A beautiful golden color and excellent viscosity. A fine nose ofbergomot, quince and citrus notes. The initial tast is slightly offputting with disjointed flavors and a hot finish. Obviously very ripe clean fruit but made with only moderate sweetness. Almost demi-sec in sweetness but too ponderous due to the alcohol rather that cloying sweetness. I think this would show better as an German auslese style with more RS. Beginning to gain mature riesling flavors and began to open up with a little aeration. I'm not sure with what food this pairs either. I doubt that this will improve with age. A big but graceful older riesling, with oodles of butteriness and slightly hazelnutty. The sweetness has integrated into a richer body, lacking a bit in acidity to keep it zinging through. Would have like to have left it a few more years, but such is life. (3470 views) |
