The nose is all bright red cherry and plum. Nothing complex here, but very satisfying. The attack is all bright red cherry that then relaxes into plum, then a pleasing earthy-mushroom quality. Something akin to baking spices on the finish, but nothing defined or definite. Simple. Pleasing. Easy to love. 14% alc. With assorted cheeses, country ham and crusty bread. Recommended. A fairly focused nose of cherry, tobo, black olive and roasted tomato. A bit of a smokey flavor near the finish. Smooth and light; pleasing and easy. | SalvanoThe origins of Cantine Salvano date back to ancient times. In the 30s Angelo Salvano began producing wines in the farmhouse “Grillo” in the vineyards of Diano d’Alba, in the heart of Langhe. Its products, the result of the hard work in the vineyards and the dedication to a land hard and rich at the same time, start to be known by many. Immediately After the war the iron will of his son Xavier allowed him to expand the cellar and move Valle Talloria. Hence the name “Salvano” becomes synonymous with quality wines. In 1982 begins a new and decisive phase of growth, when two boys from the origins farmers decided to capitalize on their enthusiasm and realize their dream in drawer. Dolcetto, a northern Italian varietal from the Piedmont region, is a lighter bodied red. This wine is fruity and means 'little sweet one' in Italian. Some will opt to put a slight chill on it. Perfect with Mediterrean cuisine such as grilled meats and vegetables. Alba is a town and comune of Piedmont, Italy, in the province of Cuneo. It is considered the capital of the hilly area of Langhe, and is famous for the white truffle, peach and wine production. Piedmont is in the Northwestern region of Italy, bordering France and Switzerland. Piedmont is predominantly a plain where the water flows from the Swiss and French Alps to form the headwaters of the Po river. The major wine producing areas are in the southern portion of the region in the hills known as the "Langhe". Here the people speak a dialect that is 1/3 French and 2/3 Italian that portrays their historical roots. Their cuisine is one of the most creative and interesting in Italy. Nebbiolo is the King grape here, producing Barolo and Barbaresco. In addition, the Barbera and Dolcetto are the workhorse grapes that produce the largest quantity of wine. Piedmont is predominantly a red wine producing area. There are a few whites made in Piedmont, and the Moscato grape produces a large volume of sweet, semi-sweet and sparkling wines as well.
