Tasted by Bonesetter on 1/3/2024 & rated 88 points: A little tired. Faded quickly one the bottle had been opened. Younger bottles of this vintage were magnificent. (175 views)
Tasted by gparker777 on 4/30/2023 & rated 93 points: Medium garnet colour showing some age in the glass. Straight off the bat, beautiful nose of blackberry, plum and vanilla. Tasting resolves to a very fruit driven and jammy chocolate style of wine somewhat one dimensional at this stage in life on the front and middle palate but bloody lovely nonetheless. Some leather and earthy savoury notes on the long finish all very pleasant experience. Whilst tannins and alcohol are smoothed out this wine should come with a warning as high octane at 15.5% alc. (262 views)
Tasted by Bonesetter on 9/9/2022 flawed bottle: Corked. (401 views)
Tasted by Cha-Cha-Chung on 8/23/2020 & rated 90 points: Like drinking a vintage port. Ripe and luscious. Very slightly corked (barely noticeable.) (913 views)
Tasted by BAJRiley on 4/18/2020 & rated 93 points: Deep crimson, colour suggests it is not done despite its age. Nose - medium intensity, red and black fruit, oak and a hint of leather. Nicely perfumed. Medium bodied, nice long finish. Still drinking very nicely and a great style of shiraz. The age has balanced out the high alcohol. Excellent wine. (939 views)
Tasted by drjb on 3/14/2020 & rated 90 points: The 99 Georgia's Paddock is a ripe rich Shiraz with a nose of redcurrant, blackberry and dark plum with a touch of Eucalypt and mint. The palate is rich, almost Port-like with a mouth filling character and a touch of honey on the finish. Somewhat atypical this lacks a little finesse but has plenty of flavour and regional character. (995 views)
Tasted by Barnaby33 on 3/12/2019: Sadly, corked. (1058 views)
Tasted by Dack Rambo on 6/25/2018 & rated 91 points: Alcohol has softened and now a more balanced wine. Great mouthfeel (1201 views)
Tasted by jmht on 4/13/2015 & rated 92 points: I've had about 4-5 bottles of the 1999 vintage JH Georgia's Paddock the past year-- I had another one last night. First off, of the handful of bottles, it is apparent that decanting 6+ hours is best. Huge nose of pure black fruit and graphite. The palate was stunningly balanced despite the 14+% alcohol... absolutely no heat... just black fruit, graphite, high toned minerality, and long black cherry finish. Drink up! (2601 views)
Tasted by Xavier Auerbach on 1/4/2014 & rated 92 points: Open, rich and attractive nose, subtle and layered, lovely tertiary development, leather, eucalyptus, perfume, crushed red fruit, smoke, excellent depth, mature; the palate is rich and rounded, with velvety tannins and ripe acidity, its elegance belies its weight (15.5% ABV), mature, lovely sweet ripe fruit; good length, more than a hint of back-end heat. Still lovely at 15 years old. My last bottle, but my prediction would be that the alcohol will eventually kick this wine off-balance as the fruit recedes further. Drink up. (2832 views)
Tasted by Maxboost on 1/22/2013 & rated 87 points: Very dark aroma of berries
15.5% was definitely noticed
SOME tannins but very good finish (3028 views)
Tasted by Xavier Auerbach on 12/10/2012 & rated 93 points: Showing very well, especially on the second day. The deep nose has aromas of red meat, pepper, sweet black fruit, hint of vanilla, gunpowder, expresso; on the palate powerful and rich, satiny and creamy but balanced beautifully by refreshing acidity, finely-grained tannins and a lovely minerally streak that runs through it; very good length, hint of eucalyptus. (3023 views)
Tasted by Xavier Auerbach on 4/1/2012 & rated 92 points: Smoky and rich but layered and refined, crushed fruit and leather, velvety, bacon and hickory smoke, rich and finely grained tannins, almost balsamic richness but has the requisite acidity and minerality to avoid clumsiness in spite of 15.5% alcohol; good length, dried fruit, hint of forest floor. Lovely wine, time in hand. (3004 views)
Tasted by Winevestor on 10/30/2011 & rated 90 points: A wonderful nose. Big smells filled the room. Dark, rich plum and wave after wave of changing dark red fruit. The first hour was great. The nose playing onto the palate. However after that it started to fall apart and the high alcohol was left standing. (2007 views)
Tasted by Xavier Auerbach on 10/2/2011 & rated 92 points: Classical Heathcote Shiraz, deep and powerful, sweet fruit, pepper, mint and vanilla, minerally depth, still very primary and fresh, liitle evolution; very concentrated but in spite of very high alcohol (15.5%) not heavy or unwieldy, carries its weight well thanks to a muscular structure and sturdy tannins; good length, complete, à point. Now - 2019. (1472 views)
Tasted by Winevestor on 5/9/2011 & rated 90 points: Big nose of stewed plums. Fruit freshens up in the mouth, with a good backbone and the JH earthiness coming through. Somehow though the wine isn't well balanced. Its got all the parts, but they don't integrate. I think this is partly due to too big a dose of alcohol. However JH is always interesting, and this was a big, mouthfilling drink. (1592 views)
Tasted by RBRG on 10/12/2010 & rated 90 points: Learn't from previous mistakes and gave it a long breath of air before drinking. Chocolate, rich dark fruit and vanilla oak and subtle spiciness again. Perfect match for my Kipfler potato and Wagyu ribeye dinner :-) (1863 views)
Tasted by Xavier Auerbach on 9/5/2010 & rated 93 points: Big yet elegant, sweet fruit, earthy yet polished, velvety, long. (1271 views)
Tasted by jmht on 6/20/2010 & rated 89 points: Tasted over two nights, decanted 6 hours the first night, and consumed at 28-30 hours the second night. Not the best example of JH I've had, the 98 and 95 were simpler much better. This bottling shows intense dark red fruits and dense graphite, charcoal and long spicy finish on day 1-- overall, seems just slightly disjointed, and perhaps a tad hot for its 15%. Day 2, the wine showed balance, with muted dark red fruits (black cherry seemed to sing), nice balance between eucalyptus, chocolate, and tannin. I will state my bias-- I love JH-- but this vintage is a strange one. It is the first vintage of JH I've tasted that lacks balance-- drink now, but decant 6+ hours if not longer. (1876 views)
Tasted by RBRG on 5/8/2010 & rated 92 points: Should have been decanted. This wine opened up with high alcohol nose that slowly blew off in the glass. Wonderful deep purple colour that promises of rich black fruit. Once settled the wine displays an evocative nose of dark berries, chocolate oak and a touch of spice. On the palette the dark fruits and chocolate again dominate with beautiful soft balanced tannins on a very long finish (1940 views)
Tasted by Xavier Auerbach on 1/28/2010 & rated 93 points: Rich and velvety colour; deep, dense and layered nose, creamy fruit, pepper and other spices, minerals, warm oak; velvety texture, grainy tannins, wonderful grip; lovely length, just a bit hot. Remarkable finesse considering the concentration and 15.5% alcohol. (1091 views)
Tasted by Xavier Auerbach on 8/3/2008 & rated 93 points: Rather immense (15.5%) but not port-like at all, firm acidity and amazing minerality maintain a flawless balance, an iron fist in a velvet glove. Very complex and decadent flavours, leather, nuts, coffee, forest fruits, game stock, spices; chunky tannins and firm acidity sheathed in velvety fruit. Excellent length. (1124 views)
Tasted by CamWheeler on 4/13/2008 & rated 85 points: A big, ripe nose of charcoal, chocolate, eucalypt and cherry. Tannins stick and there is a touch of bitterness on the finish. The alcohol stands out as well with a glycerol like element to the palate. (2100 views)
Tasted by bundydavis on 1/19/2008 & rated 93 points: I thought this was a classic Australian Shiraz. We had it open for a few hours and it went perfect with the Lamb. Lots of fruit and well balanced. (2614 views)
Tasted by Johann Von Mastiff on 12/29/2007 & rated 75 points: really dissapointing bottle of this fantastic producer. I thought it was undrinkable. It was horribly reduced. Some at the table actually liked it but all I got was rubber hose. (2210 views)
