Tasted by redz on 4/7/2023 & rated 92 points: drinking well, in a good place. It's interesting to see the CT ratings by "time", as this wine progressed from 90 to solid 92 the past 3 yrs. "Sometimes aging works, sometimes it doesn't." (910 views)
Tasted by pinoteer on 7/3/2022 & rated 92 points: Still drinking prime after a 2h decant. Red and black fruits, vanilla, dill, licorice, mouth-watering acidity, and sweet tannins. For the price, this is still one of my favorite CA Cabs. (1415 views)
Tasted by aecklund on 12/24/2021 & rated 94 points: Perfect time to drink (1639 views)
Tasted by winecoffee on 10/16/2021 & rated 91 points: Classic Napa cab with nose of bell peppers, perched earth, bit of coffee and mud. Palate has green vegetables followed by chocolate and chewy tannins.

Makes you feel like running through fields of vegetables smelling the damp earth as the sky is covered with dark clouds that remind you of the maiden that stole your soul. (1856 views)
Tasted by PapaGreenz on 4/6/2021 & rated 92 points: Drinking perfectly this last bottle of my case with the best. If you have it drink it now, enjoy (2244 views)
Tasted by Colorado3G on 12/31/2020 & rated 91 points: I was afraid this was getting past it's prime - but still showing very nicely! (2095 views)
Tasted by John McCabe on 10/28/2020 & rated 92 points: Pretty typical of the '12 vintage, feels cool and aloof (especially compared to the '13 vintage which I generally find to be congested and overdone). This is pretty solid, balanced, sour cherry, not much dryness or acidity. (2134 views)
Tasted by pinoteer on 10/14/2020 & rated 93 points: Doesn't need much decanter time, but most of this bottle was drunk after 2-3 hours in the flask. Really a nice Cali Cab that is very balanced and not over-the-top in any way. Blackberries, black cherry, dill, and licorice come to mind as I write this after dinner. We had this bottle with grilled flank steak and green beans mixed with grilled bell pepper and zucchini. It went really well with the grilled flavors of the veggies and beef. Normally, I don't care for a Cali Cab with steak (who really wants jammy fruit with meat??), but this really worked well. CT notes with scores average 92, and I'm inclined to agree (92-93). The great food pairing pushed me to the upper score. This is much better than I was expecting. At just under $40, this is a decent value. (1607 views)
Tasted by Dr Burt on 7/15/2020: Boone & Lance (1798 views)
Tasted by WineJ2019 on 7/9/2020 & rated 90 points: I suggest drinking these soon (1375 views)
Tasted by DanielJ on 4/6/2020 & rated 91 points: Very nice. Rich deep flavor. Good complexity. A little bramble and blueberry. (1832 views)
Tasted by TastesGoodToMe on 3/15/2020 & rated 89 points: This wine was a late bloomer to me. The first time I had it back in 2015 I was really disappointed (scored it 84). These are finally drinking well. Great wine for the price point. (2141 views)
Tasted by Mapleglo330 on 11/17/2019 & rated 92 points: Cellar Tracker says I have six of these, but this one I drank is the only one I could find. Too bad, this is drinking really well now. Has mellowed to background tannins with blueberry and chocolate. First night was good but second night seemed to gain some weight and extra mouthfeel. Even better. Start drinking now and maybe for another couple years. Hope I find another bottle. (1916 views)
Tasted by Colorado3G on 11/17/2019 & rated 91 points: Drinking nicely and well within it's window! (1482 views)
Tasted by Colorado3G on 10/29/2019 & rated 91 points: Drinking well....maybe still could use a short decant. (1671 views)
Tasted by yipen on 10/10/2019: Not bad but not too good as well. lack the Napa fruitiness. (1441 views)
Tasted by comlaw on 5/24/2019 & rated 93 points: Decanted for 45 minutes. Basically the same as the previous bottle I drank (2167 views)
Tasted by JTA9904 on 4/2/2019 & rated 91 points: Smooth. Did not take long to open up. Ready to drink now. (2073 views)
Tasted by randyjc on 3/28/2019 & rated 88 points: Muted Napa cab nose that smells a bit more of alcohol than expected. Black cherry and eucalyptus along with the too much alcohol. Nice mouth feel, quite spicy. Black and red fruit - tart with fine drying tannins. A good wine on a cold spring night. (2070 views)
Tasted by West Chester Wine on 1/1/2019 & rated 90 points: Very well balanced and full flavored. (1777 views)
Tasted by Heaterguy on 12/30/2018 & rated 90 points: Decanter for three hours. Purple ruby hues with reticent nose, Nice food wine with
dry-aged strip steak. Last bottle. I think it has reached its peak. (2317 views)
Tasted by jeffjohnsonjj@hotmail.com on 11/16/2018 & rated 90 points: Gave this a 2 hour decant, and perhaps this was more than needed. Nice easy drinking Cab, but a bit fluid and bordering on hollow by the end of the evening - I would suggest drink up now. (2247 views)
Tasted by Baron Slick on 10/18/2018 & rated 91 points: Beautiful aromatics. An array of black cherries, red currants, plums, cigar box, and a whiff of toasty oak amid a nostalgic scent reminiscent of the inside of an open drawer in an antique, camphor chest. The palate shows tremendous verve amongst Cabernet typicity. Bright, fleshy, and fluid, with fine grained tannin, a vibrant cut, and Christmas spices on the, juicy red fruit finish. Lovely all around. (1915 views)
Tasted by suarezd on 10/8/2018 & rated 88 points: Very good; good fruit, moderate secondary characteristics. (2107 views)
Tasted by oenophilemoose on 10/3/2018 & rated 90 points: PNP but should have decanted to fully open. Otherwise, somewhat restrained. (2145 views)

Hall

Producer website
Since first working in her family’s Mendocino vineyards, Kathryn Hall dreamed of a place to showcase fine wines alongside expressive art and masterful architecture. Now, Kathryn and Craig Hall are creating an unrivalled destination
in the Napa Valley—where winemaking excellence meets contemporary design to celebrate life and inspire the senses. In 2005, Craig and Kathryn Hall unveiled a state-of-the-art winery amid the legendary Sacrashe Vineyard in the hills
of Rutherford that is dedicated to making single vineyard and limited-production wines. The Halls acquired the historic Bergfeld winery in St. Helena in 2003, and are merging history and innovation with the completion of California's
First Winery to achieve Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) Gold Certification.

HALL’s estate vineyards encompass more than five hundred acres of classic Bordeaux varietals; Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Sauvignon Blanc.
As winegrowers, the Halls have a strong respect for the environment and a commitment to cutting-edge vineyard technology to yield the highest quality grapes.
Through meticulous attention to detail in the vineyards, HALL wines are able to express the unique and diverse character of Napa Valley’s soils and climate.

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
