Tasted by WineBurrowingWombat on 10/20/2023 & rated 95 points: Cracking the whip; 10/16/2023-10/23/2023 (Eagan, MN): N: Aromas of longans if they were golden in flesh when ripened. Juicy, ripe cantaloupe without being oversweet. Scents of tall stalks of dried grass and a light and airy caramel note.

P: Fruits match the nose completely. A subtle hint of honey, gently bitter wax, minerals and dried, spiced hay that lingers into the finish. The airy caramel note is showing here as well (as if it was gently torched, gracing the flavors with a hint of a burnt top). Still a good sense of freshness and a juiciness that is starting to show that it may have a hard time clinging on soon. (1011 views)
Tasted by galewskj on 10/20/2023 & rated 93 points: Wine-a-palooza (Jason's house): Pop and pour from a magnum, drank a good-sized glass over 45 minutes. I was concerned due to the vintage, but this performed at my expectation level for an Aubert Lauren. There is a lot going on, supple and yet vibrant, green apple. The wood started to come out as I finished the glass, which made me think that you probably shouldn't hold any longer. (614 views)
Tasted by 3daywinereview.com on 10/20/2023 & rated 92 points: Wine Palooza (Eagan, MN): Very nice bottle featuring candied fruits, apple, orange peal, mild oak and minerals. For sure in its prime and drink now. (707 views)
Tasted by KenK on 10/22/2022 & rated 91 points: NYWE 2022: Nice light yellow color, buttery wood spice aromas. Good depth and nice tasty apple flavors. Quite notable for creamy texture with good lift. Very good, especially for the age. Would drink up as seemingly not improving.

Tough vintage for many cold, wet late vintage with some Botritus. Aubert did unusually well. Good acidity helped ageablity. (1270 views)
Tasted by jlgnml on 9/5/2022 & rated 92 points: A bit darker color. The nose was muted at the beginning but then opens up and had a lot of length Drink. (1221 views)
Tasted by mclanew on 4/2/2022 & rated 92 points: Popped and poured. This is starting to head downhill. Still pretty good but starting to lose energy and develop aged flavors. (1191 views)
Tasted by beerenauslese on 2/26/2022: This bottle was oxidized. Orange gold color, with less fruit acidity and drier than the other two bottles I enjoyed. Nothing amiss with the cork or ullage. Probably just bottle variation. (1095 views)
Tasted by jlgnml on 2/1/2022 & rated 92 points: Not the best bottle as the color was more golden. Still drinking well. I have bought several btls from different sources and just don’t know whose btl it is. (1289 views)
Tasted by jlgnml on 11/23/2021 & rated 95 points: Coravin one month ago and then finished the btl tonight and it is great. Drink (1138 views)
Tasted by fclarity on 11/6/2021 & rated 92 points: This wine had a deep yellow center and clear rims. The medium+ intensity nose generated lemon, apple, vanilla, and pineapple notes.

The the mouth, this wine was rich and ripe but nicely balanced with just enough integrated acidity to balance out the significant weight.

OK, it didn't have huge complexity but it was a well made wine that still tastes quite young. (1260 views)
Tasted by jlgnml on 10/2/2021 & rated 94 points: Never disappoints (1146 views)
Tasted by Newoak2018 on 9/2/2021 & rated 97 points: Incredible. Knee jerk reaction…this is the best bottle of white wine I have ever had. Ripe apple, peach, butterscotch, subtle hints of vanilla, cinnamon, salted nuts. Toffee. Concentrated palate, long finish with good energy. Hot, can feel the alcohol the only thing that isn’t perfect. (1141 views)
Tasted by JCGuthrie on 7/17/2021: Same bottle as I'D RATHER BE DRINKING WINE and I think his note pretty much nails it. My notes indicate primarily honey and a tropical fruit explosion on the palate, but there was much more going on than that. This is an almost over the top opulent wine, and in this case I'm ok with that! (1219 views)
Tasted by rocknroller on 7/15/2021 & rated 92 points: Mixed WTDS: AKA "Bring a Nice Bottle" (Tilia, Mpls): Light medium gold color. Drank a glass over an hour in a flight with an '11 Drouhin CdelaG and a Sine Qua Non Deux Grenouilles. Normally I'm a big Aubert fan, but tonight this came off over the top for me. Drinking it side by side with the '11 Drouhin I found myself mesmerized by the purity and refinement of the Drouhin. On another night I might have been totally enamoured by the Aubert. The stylistic differences were dramatic. I guess my bias was showing. Rich, full bodied, ultra ripe and layered, tropical, plenty of oak, round and plump, pear, with some tangerine and lemon added to the palate. (1393 views)
Tasted by galewskj on 7/15/2021 & rated 95 points: Luis' "Bring a very good bottle" event (Tilia): Total Aubert nose, lively, nuanced, carefree, world class chardonnay. Honeyed lemon, spicebox, oak, tropical fruit, peach. This sings. (1340 views)
Tasted by I'd Rather Be Drinking Wine on 7/15/2021 & rated 95 points: Luis Rides Again @ Tilia!: PnP - Nose showed tropical fruits, some bread notes and white flowers. Palate showed layers of pear, melon, some tropical fruits, toasted oak and vanilla cream. This was my favorite white of the tasting. Aubert definitely deserves its reputation in my book! Easy 94 to 95 points! I believe this wine has a lot of life still left in it, although not sure it further improve. It did get a little better with time in the glass, but I suspect that was from warming up a little, rather than aging. Drink or hold, but drinking well now! (1838 views)
Tasted by jlgnml on 5/8/2021 & rated 95 points: Super smooth a real treat. (1141 views)
Tasted by jlgnml on 4/19/2021 & rated 96 points: Stunning. Wow. Delicious and ever lasting on the palate. (1174 views)
Tasted by beerenauslese on 3/16/2021 & rated 94 points: Tropical fruits and some green apple, integrated oak. Big, yet balanced. Nectarish. Delicious and lovely now, can last a few more years. (1190 views)
Tasted by DonDon on 3/5/2021 & rated 95 points: Beautiful and huge wine - massive length; almost tropical notes; a lot going on, very ripe (1205 views)
Tasted by rustyRudy on 11/18/2020 & rated 93 points: Golden yellow, caramel, marzipan, ripe apple, tropical fruits, and oaky when cold but gorgeous layers of spiced apple, and luscious fruits when it warms up. (1513 views)
Tasted by PortFanatic on 11/1/2020 & rated 95 points: Stunning! (1076 views)
Tasted by JCGuthrie on 10/31/2020: Ripe tropical fruits and aged vanilla on the nose. Similar on the palate, but also some creme brulee. My initial thought was that it could use some more acidity to balance the richness, but with air the acidity seemed to emerge and the balance improved. Also showed more depth on the palate with air. Lovely. (1061 views)
Tasted by Philip67 on 10/10/2020 & rated 96 points: OMG This is just a great wine. Golden colour, fully mature. Rich sweet fruit, lemon, tangerine, orange peel, ripe peach. Good acidity. Long and complex. Drink now unless you prefer the tertiary caramel notes, of which there was just the very slightest hint. (1170 views)
Tasted by cubswinws on 10/7/2020 & rated 93 points: The color of liquid gold with big nose and rich citrus honeycomb flavors. Not a wine for the faint of heart. (1160 views)

2011 Aubert Chardonnay Lauren Estate Vineyard

Vineyard and Winemaking:
Our 2011 Aubert Lauren Estate Vineyard Sonoma Coast Chardonnay leads the way again with what we would deem a “Grand-Cru wine site.” Lauren Estate produces a wine of fabulous concentration layered with extract, complexity, aromatics, and a great mouth feel not found in many wines. Lauren Estate has four of the most distinct Chardonnay clones. Each is harvested and kept separate to the barrel then blended only before the final racking to bottle.
The moderately-cool weather in 2011 influenced the grape flavors and gave us a resultant wine of multi-dimensional parameters. Again, as with all of our vineyards, the grapes were handpicked in the early morning and immediately moved in our refrigerated trucks to the winery. Fermentation was conducted in barrel and took a lengthy seven months to complete. The final result is something of a revelation—complex Sonoma Coast Chardonnay with just some hints of White Burgundy. This wine was aged in 100 percent new French oak barrels for 12 months, and then carefully racked to tank. As with all of our wines, we let them rest and clarify in tank for another three months before bottling.

Mark Aubert’s Tasting Notes:
The 2011 Lauren Estate Chardonnay always reminds me of a hypothetical vintage blend of Sonoma Coast meets White Burgundy. This 2011 Lauren is naturally clear with green chlorophyll tints on edge. Aromatics are classic Lauren with nuances of lemon-mineral, dried pear and even some green tea-like tones. The pronounced aromatics of fruits and minerals give an organic sense of place. The bouquet is multi-faceted with hints of apple-baked goods and wet stones. The mouth feel presents a glycerin top note, followed by an acid structure only found at Lauren. The 2011 Lauren Estate Chardonnay will age on a very slow path, and by my assessment should drink well for 5-10 years. The wine has a slight hazy clarity showing our commitment to minimal interventional winemaking.

The Chardonnay Grape

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
