Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 90.5 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 40 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Ebrim on 4/5/2023 & rated 82 points: Short note - very typical CDP, but a bit too prenounced alcohol that affects the balance alot, medium finish, high concentration, medium complexity, a good wine, but hasnt evolved as i hoped. 82p (1036 views)
Tasted by Zweder on 3/11/2022 & rated 91 points: A lot of garrigue and beautiful red and dark fruits in the bouquet. Same on the palate, some chocolate, good acidity. In fact a juicy and delicious wine which is ready now. (1680 views)
Tasted by scarborough on 12/17/2021 & rated 91 points: This is drinking beautifully right now. (1643 views)
Tasted by Otaku Oenophile on 11/5/2021 & rated 92 points: Not recent but from memory years ago.

Good right out of the bottle. Fresh plums and bright red fruit showing along with tobacco. It definitely had a bit of barnyard/funk which I found very enjoyable and balanced by the fruit. (1746 views)
Tasted by bubblewitz on 4/9/2021 & rated 91 points: Herbs, blackberry, spice (1899 views)
Tasted by Condrieu82 on 1/1/2021 & rated 95 points: Exciting wine. Tawny color. Nose of plums, delicate. Very distinctive palate of licorice, with plums and some faint blackberries. Medium ling finish with some wood notes and grippy tannins that tells me this can age some more. Excellent with beef Wellington. 55% Grenache. (2029 views)
Tasted by TXRhoneRanger on 11/10/2020 & rated 89 points: I can certainly understand how this is an underrated and irregular vintage in the southern Rhône. there are some shining stars in this vintage and I think this vintage still has some Elegance to shine in the medium term cellaring . This wine was showing complete and ready to drink right now. Usually his wines are bombastic and frivolous in their nature. this one is clearly red fruit to the point of extraction along with some typical garrigue and kirsch. On the lighter side for Barroche. Still a pleasant Châteauneuf if not at the top of the game this year. (1716 views)
Tasted by Jeff Leve on 8/11/2020 & rated 89 points: Slightly past full-maturity, the nose focuses on its garrigue, olive, leaf and spicy red berry side. Medium-bodied, bright, crisp and tart, there is an herbal edge to the fruit in the finish. My instincts say it's best to consume this over the next couple of years before the fruit continues fading. (2599 views)
Tasted by philmtl on 4/30/2019: Bouteille obtenue en cadeau et première expérience avec ce producteur et cette cuvée. Ouvert trop jeune. On aurait dû attendre 3 à 5 ans. (2251 views)
Tasted by Miceri on 4/6/2018 & rated 90 points: Medium dark red; somewhat roasted / burned nose; quite sweet in the attack and middle, slightly acidic and tannic at the end; fine everyday wine (2187 views)
Tasted by Xavier Auerbach on 9/28/2017 & rated 90 points: Tasting of the Utrecht Wine Society (Utrecht, NL): Tasted blind. Light colour, relatively youthful appearance; stewed fruit on the nose, hints of almond and honey; supple and juicy, firm tannins, medium body, hint of heat on the finish (15% ABV), very good length. (3183 views)
Tasted by Motz on 6/27/2017 & rated 92 points: Tasted over three days. It showed like a good quality CdRV on the first day (90-91), more CdP substance on the second (91-92), and expansive, kelp, iodine, cured meat, and mineral driven on the third (92). Likely to improve over the next two to three years. Decant for several hours if drinking now. 92-93. (3818 views)
Tasted by arnold2015 on 7/21/2016 & rated 90 points: Nice blend of fruit and acid, smokiness on nose and palate that is mild. Opens up impressively after 2 hours of decanting (2543 views)
Tasted by CamWheeler on 6/24/2016 & rated 89 points: Milestone dinner with the team: Earth, kirsch and cherry. High acid, nice red fruit profile, has the savoury note to it giving interest. (2464 views)
Tasted by MattMauldin on 4/17/2016: Chateauneuf-Du-Pape domaine visits: Tasted at the domaine. Aromas of red cherry, mineral, sous bois, tobacco, spice and flowers- very expressive. Silky and elegant on the palate, with notes of fig & spice, accented by flowers and rocky minerality. Elegant throughout, nice density in the middle, with silky tannins and good length on the finish. Excellent. (5857 views)
(4758 views)
Tasted by RayOB on 7/29/2015 & rated 92 points: Drank in CNDP - 60% Grenache, 23% Mourvedre, 9% Cinsault and 8% Syrah.
So the first thing the restaurant does is put it in an Ice bag, they must know what they are doing as I am eating at Le Verger des Papes in CNDP village.
This is wonderful with huge depth and complexity and is open like a number of the '11s, Julien Barrot is on a roll and seems to know how to make the best from his 12.5 hectares. (4849 views)
Tasted by Eric Guido on 3/27/2015 & rated 91 points: This was stunning on the nose, mixing refinement with an earthy rusticity, which set off all of the senses. It displayed red and blueberry fruits, floral undergrowth, chalky minerals and a hint of pepper. It was rich and juicy on the palate with tart wild berry and hints of spice, which seemed to saturate the palate and last long throughout the finish. (3547 views)
Tasted by Eppy on 12/24/2014 & rated 95 points: Wonderful mouthfeel - silky and very well rounded (5354 views)
Tasted by CWilliam on 12/6/2014 & rated 92 points: Can't find notes - very enjoyable and nice fruit / acid balance (not over the top) - nice balance of old & modern style. 92+ (3395 views)
Tasted by rossi.wine on 11/17/2014 & rated 91 points: Richer fruit than on the 2012, but not cooked or jammy. Fresh with juicy fruit, slightly drying tannins, great length. 90-91+ (2391 views)
Tasted by Ebrim on 8/26/2014 & rated 91 points: A real chateauneuf du pape wine, long and incredible finish. (2318 views)
Tasted by Jeff Leve on 8/19/2014 & rated 91 points: Licorice, garrigue and kirsch notes lead to a plush, polished, luscious blast of ripe, sweet, peppery fruits in the finish. (2349 views)
Tasted by stadler on 5/16/2014: Là encore, un très joli équilibre pour Châteauneuf-du-Pape, acidité remarquable, longueur et finesse déjà appréciable aujourd'hui. (2715 views)
Tasted by Miceri on 4/17/2014 & rated 89 points: Medium to dark red; fruity nose of dark berries, somewhat subdued; quite some (sharp) pepper, going into a caramel-like aftertaste, quite powerful, pronounced tannins, clearly on the very (too) young side, appearing a bit unbalanced at the moment; will wait some years before the next bottle - needs to settle (2429 views)

Red Rhone Blend

Read about the different grapes used to produce red and white Rhone wines
On CellarTracker, Red Rhone Blend is the term for a wine consisting of two or more of the traditional 13 Southern Rhone grape varieties. Typically it's the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre or Cinsault grapes, but can also contain the Muscardin, Counoise, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Picpoul, Roussanne, Terret Noir, Picardan or Vaccarese grapes.

A 'food' wine. Lacking pretension and intended for local consumption with local cuisine. Lacks the 'high' notes on a Bordeaux, more earthy and sharper so often a better partner to meat dishes with a sauce.

"As I have written many times in the past, the sweet spot for drinking Châteauneuf du Papes is usually the first 5-6 years after the vintage. Then they seem to go through an adolescent, awkward, and sometimes dormant stage, only to re-emerge around year 10-12, where the majority of wines are often fully mature. The best of them will continue to hold on to life (but rarely improving) beyond 15-20 years. It is only the exceptional Châteauneuf du Papes that will evolve for 20-25+ years, and those are indeed a rarity. However, things may be improving dramatically in terms of the longevity of Châteauneuf du Pape, although Grenache-dominated wines, the vast majority of wines produced in the appellation, are wines that do not have the polyphenol (extract and tannin) content of top Cabernet Sauvignons, Merlots, or Syrah-based wines. Nevertheless, the younger generation in Châteauneuf du Pape has taken seriously the farming in the vineyards. There are more organic and biodynamically run vineyards here than in any other appellation of France. The yields, which were already low, are even lower today (20-35 hectoliters per hectare), and of course, the proliferation of top luxury and/or old-vine cuvées gives a significant boost to the number of wines that will evolve past 25 or 30 years. The advantage of these wines is their broad window of drinkability." - Robert Parker
