Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 89 pts. and median of 89 pts. in 28 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Pontifax on 3/6/2020 & rated 90 points: Well...two years later since my last note on this wine
On nose:dried apricot , present oak and vanilla .
On palate:after a one hour decant ,this wine , in addition to the above flavours , it displayed hints of creme brulee , burnt almond notes , Seville orange and a full rather alcoholic body, with diminishing acidity ....a pleasant wine on its last arc of drinkability ....if you have any , drink up......NOT a seafood wine .... went well with roast chicken and vinegar based Carolina pork back ribs .  Tasted by Terramare on 3/21/2018 & rated 90 points: So, we've had this bottle for quite awhile, and it is slightly past the community drinking window. That said, this viognier was still very decent, and I'd give it possibly another year or two beyond now (and submitted a 2020 end date). It was moderately dry, but as it warmed up, a touch of sweetness came through. At the end of the day, this was still quite a nice bottle - just don't drink it super-chilled. (1338 views)
Tasted by snowman94114 on 2/13/2018: Terrific. Like a Chablis more than a viognier...91 pts. Ready to go now. (1315 views)
Tasted by Pontifax on 1/14/2018 & rated 90 points: Surprisingly fresh for a 6 year old Viognier. (1313 views)
Tasted by stefanovillamarin on 10/17/2017 & rated 90 points: Mineral, well balanced with exotic fruity notes. Honestly taste crispy but very alcoholic, drinkable for other couple years. defenitly good wine, money worth (1406 views)
Tasted by wabi47 on 2/28/2016 & rated 89 points: crisp and clean with mineral and a few floral notes. Would not have guessed that this was viognier, but it is well balanced a good quaff. D2 a few exotic notes but still crisp--add a point (1572 views)
Tasted by David J Cooper on 2/21/2016 & rated 91 points: Clear light yellow. Very delicate nose of lemon, white flowers and melon. Viscous appearance, sticks to the side of the glass. Delicious and balanced. Very nice wine.

Unfortunately it was followed by a Merde de Soliel
chardonnay that killed the palate for a while. Brutal. (1214 views)
Tasted by jmottern on 4/20/2015 & rated 88 points: Pale yellow medium body wine. Nice minerality with a short finish. The wine did not "open up" which tells me that it might still be too young to drink. (1466 views)
Tasted by audeyoe on 4/3/2015 & rated 88 points: At first a little too fruity on the nose, but with some air it mellowed. Lacking the vanilla and honeysuckle that I look for in a great Viognier, but plenty of free cut flowers and mineral notes. Very smooth mouth feel. (1465 views)
Tasted by AlbertaOenologist on 1/3/2015 & rated 90 points: very enjoyable, nice softness, plushness, some mineral, will buy again (1432 views)
Tasted by BenSwetnam on 12/9/2014 & rated 88 points: Peach, almond, jasmine, and red earth spicy mineral notes on the nose. The palate is a touch thin for Viognier (likely due to the 14.2%alc) it also shows some lees influence in the mouth but in a doughy way rather than volume building. A touch hot in the finish. Nice nose, and happily not over oaked like so many Aussie versions but too disappointing on the palate to warrant the price. Drink now through 2016. (1054 views)
Tasted by wabi47 on 8/25/2014 & rated 89 points: nice mix of quince, slate/tin, peach and more; a touch of honey on the tip of the tongue but very dry otherwise; medium body. Very nice california viognier. (1145 views)
Tasted by KVM on 7/15/2014: Med yellow. Floral, fruity, hint of r.s. Really good at reasonable price. (913 views)
Tasted by wabi47 on 7/15/2014 & rated 89 points: more nectarine/mango as it warms up, but still retains some crispness and mineral. (906 views)
Tasted by wabi47 on 6/17/2014 & rated 88 points: floral nose; clean lemon/lime with some slate and quince; good but slightly coarse acidity; good intensity. (843 views)

Viognier

Viogner is wrong wine

This is nonsense.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
