Showing wonderful honey and white fruits. (912 views)
Tasted by kris.h on 5/7/2022: Dark straw colored, almost orange. It's certainly a strange wine and suspect this could be oxidized. That said, there's much to enjoy. The nose has some tropical fruits, bananas, and honey. The palate is thick, lush, and seductive. moderate acidity and medium length finish. Drink now. (1034 views)
Tasted by WildeMeeuw on 7/12/2019 & rated 90 points: Kleur: Middel goudgeel. Deze 2004 Ch. No food needed. Deze Beaucastel is er één van. Briljant! 50 + Kleur: 5 + Aroma / bouquet: 12 + Smaak / Afdronk: 15 + Algemeen / potentieel: 8 = 90/100

Google Translate:

Color: Medium golden yellow. Aroma / bouquet: Undoubtedly a somewhat tiring, over-age Ch9dP for many, but for me this is enjoyment. Packed with overripe white fruit. Overripe pineapple, overripe banana. Chervil. Floor wax / candle wax. A hint of orange peel / Grand Marnier. Taste / Aftertaste: Wowww. What a beautiful glass of wine. Low acidity and therefore perhaps a bit bulky and tiring (but not for me 😉). Concentrated, thick-juicy, a hint of refined wood. An impressively long finish. General / potential: There are few white wines that can easily promote from starter wine to main dish wine to open-fire wine. This 2004 Ch. No food needed. This Beaucastel is one of them. Brilliant! 50 + Color: 5 + Aroma / bouquet: 12 + Taste / Finish: 15 + General / potential: 8 = 90/100 (2457 views)
Tasted by Guy Des Rosiers on 9/26/2017 & rated 90 points: Deep golden core. Banana, pineapple and apple on the nose. Unlike a previous bottle I tried just last week (which tasted more like fino sherry than white wine - not an awful thing, but certainly not what I expected!), this is not oxidized, but appropriately mature for a 13-year-old white. Very full-bodied; balanced acidity; ground cherry, gooseberry, subtle flavors of tropical fruit on the palate, mixed with something waxy, almost savory, somewhere between pumpkin/zucchini and nut meal. Long length. Very lovely indeed. (3022 views)
Tasted by RayOB on 8/27/2017 & rated 93 points: Drank in Paris
I just the rich oily mouth coating taste of these white. Lovely (3127 views)
Tasted by Ben F on 1/4/2017 & rated 93 points: Popped and poured at home, from a bottle bought on release. Color was an unusually deep orange gold, making me wonder if I'd opened a bottle of "natural" wine. The cork, however, looked perfect. Concerns were quickly dispelled after smelling and tasting the wine. A beautiful mature white CdP, becoming more mineral and nuanced after an hour of air but still with a thick waxy roussanne core. A treat. (3388 views)
Tasted by kstoddard on 6/13/2016 flawed bottle: G5 (Chris): VA. Oxidized. (4633 views)
Tasted by FrancoisD on 12/11/2015 & rated 93 points: 2e bouteille, meilleure expérience
Acidité encore présente ce qui fait sans doute la différence
Arômes exotiques: mangue, prunes jaunes, avec touche florale (à découvrir avec la prochaine bouteille!)
Longue bouche supportée par la vanille
Bravo! (3717 views)
Tasted by dlduchon on 9/6/2015 & rated 92 points: Great bottle. Purchased at the winery and cellared since. Prior bottle was a touch oxidized. This one was decanted and was spot on. Delicious old white Rhone. (3390 views)
Tasted by FrancoisD on 7/22/2015 & rated 88 points: Le vin semble passé maturité, ou j'espère mauvaise bouteille. 4 de plus pour voir... (3512 views)
Tasted by CADomer on 6/25/2015 & rated 92 points: This wine has developed wonderfully. Honeyed citrus and white stone fruits with great nuttiness to it. Palate is soft but still had some acidity to keep you coming back for more. I am very happy with where this wine was. Beautifully golden in color, but not at the end of it's life. (3030 views)
Tasted by coremill on 4/7/2015 & rated 85 points: Meh. Ripe melony/banana yellow fruit, some macadamia nut character, but it's volatile and doesn't make much of a palate impression. (3167 views)
Tasted by King JR on 2/19/2014 & rated 90 points: A very nice bottle, not my favorite, but you can tell the wine had great structure, lots of welcome acidity and quote smooth. Others would have scored it much higher than I did (93-94 was the consensus), but this is my CT account ! The CB '04 Red was fantastic! (3458 views)
Tasted by fredb on 12/6/2013: Pale yellow color. Shy nose of honey, wool, lemon, and almond. Palate has an oily texture with beeswax, lemon, almond and lanolin carrying into a medium finish. After a rather oxidized bottle from the same case a few years ago, this was refreshing surprise and still showing as in the middle dumb phase of development that I tend to expect from white Rhones that go the distance. Drink or hold, depending upon your risk tolerance with oxidation. (3408 views)
Tasted by cliffkol on 5/24/2012 & rated 88 points: Chateauneuf du Pape, France - Tasted at Domaine: The 2004 White CdP had an off-taste, almost oxidized. I asked our guide about that and he explained that the Beaucastel white Chateauneuf du Pape wines develop nicely for 5-6 years and then go into a shut down phase when they become oxidized and then open up again in about 6-7 more years. This wine was in the oxidized phase and should blossom in a few more years. In the meantime it was the first white CdP I had tasted from Beaucastel so I could only believe what I was told. All in all, an interesting phenomenon and wine. (6359 views)
Tasted by Serge Birbrair on 4/4/2012: The color was very dark, much darker than I expect from 8 years old white. The acidity was low in the beginning and sitting in the glass and opened bottle brought it back to life. I don't know what to make of this wine. Allegedly it should be good for another 15 years, but I just don't see it happening. Bought on release by Ron and stored in his cellar ever since. (5282 views)
Tasted by Vinsant on 1/28/2012: Pear, wax, honey, caramel, dried herbs, and almond paste. Paired nicely with carrot soup. Enjoyed with about an hour of air and a little cooler then room temp. (5436 views)
Tasted by Zweder on 10/28/2011: The bouquet seems to be oxidized. The palate as well. A lot of nutty flavors and firm bitterness in the mouth. Soft acidity. See also my note from 2009. I don't have the experience myself yet as far as I can recall, but an expert said that the white wine at a certain moment closes down for about 10 years and then comes back as a very great and complex wine. For now I will believe that and I will not score the wine. (4854 views)
Tasted by fredb on 8/29/2011: Deep amber-orange color. Aromas of tangerine, burnt orange peel, and apricot. Palate follows with apricot, some varnish notes, orange, tangerine, buttered pineapple, and an oily element that carries into a medium finish that has plenty of VA afterburn. Works with a mixed cheese plate at the middle of the spectrum (no veined cheeses, but that might work too). Somewhat alarming color, but an interesting wine and very drinkable to me. Probably drink more of these on the young side if presented with another buying opportunity I can't pass up. Can't see this changing much for a long time. Drink or hold. (4624 views)
Tasted by Henman on 8/20/2011 & rated 93 points: Very elegant and pure pineapplelike fruit on the nose.Awesome palate, delivering pure, fresh and vibrant fruit with a supreme balance and elegance. My favorite of the flight. (3891 views)
Tasted by VoteferPedro on 7/2/2011 & rated 89 points: Started off to cold but had good balance
Very god to outstanding (3955 views)
Tasted by bajayngo on 4/20/2011: nice rhone white. Wax, honey, peach, lots of grapefuit pith and flowers. Very viscous on the palate with a good amount of bitter notes. Nice start for my 1st rhone white. (4048 views)
Tasted by mugginsthedog on 2/6/2011: Drank over 3 days. The experience was different each day. Day 1, interesting tropical fruits. Day 2, rather oxidised and unappealing. Day 3, looked far darker but smelt and tasted fresher and rather appealing. Difficult to score. (4695 views)
Tasted by Vinsant on 11/21/2010: Nice pear, nuts, cheese, beewax, and stale lemon on the nose. Mouthcoating texture with a medium finsih. Pear, almond, green banana, vanilla, and brie on the palate. Not going to rush out and buy more, but a fun bottle to try. (4680 views)
Tasted by Niagara on 9/2/2010 & rated 92 points: Nice -- fragrant mango, tropical fruits and mineral. Excellent with rotisserie chicken. (4791 views)

(Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc) Nice, light oily, mineral nose; light bodied, light on entry, opening to nutty flavors with oily texture; short-medium finish (80% Roussanne, 20% Grenache Blanc) - Marc Perrin opined that this was suffering bottle shock, having been shipped 2 weeks before  88 points

"As I have written many times in the past, the sweet spot for drinking Châteauneuf du Papes is usually the first 5-6 years after the vintage. Then they seem to go through an adolescent, awkward, and sometimes dormant stage, only to re-emerge around year 10-12, where the majority of wines are often fully mature. The best of them will continue to hold on to life (but rarely improving) beyond 15-20 years. It is only the exceptional Châteauneuf du Papes that will evolve for 20-25+ years, and those are indeed a rarity. However, things may be improving dramatically in terms of the longevity of Châteauneuf du Pape, although Grenache-dominated wines, the vast majority of wines produced in the appellation, are wines that do not have the polyphenol (extract and tannin) content of top Cabernet Sauvignons, Merlots, or Syrah-based wines. Nevertheless, the younger generation in Châteauneuf du Pape has taken seriously the farming in the vineyards. There are more organic and biodynamically run vineyards here than in any other appellation of France. The yields, which were already low, are even lower today (20-35 hectoliters per hectare), and of course, the proliferation of top luxury and/or old-vine cuvées gives a significant boost to the number of wines that will evolve past 25 or 30 years. The advantage of these wines is their broad window of drinkability." - Robert Parker
