Tasted by robmatic on 11/13/2023 & rated 91 points: Generous yet taut, refined yet masculine. Probably on the decline a little bit, but still in excellent condition and providing enjoyment. (543 views)
Tasted by MC3 on 7/28/2021: Fabulous. (2020 views)
Tasted by FozMonster on 10/26/2020 & rated 92 points: Had no expectations. Is fantastic. Got another 6 bottles. (2359 views)
Tasted by Dianemongrain on 9/7/2019 & rated 96 points: Excellent! encore puissant et plein d'arômes Bu avec Lise et Raynald chez eux après avoir mangé une escalope de veau à la milanaise. Miam (3289 views)
Tasted by RAD2626 on 11/6/2018 & rated 88 points: Much more fruit on opening than expected given the age. Lasted about an hour and then went the bell pepper route. On balance, a pleasant surprise. (3707 views)
Tasted by AlexHop on 7/12/2018 & rated 93 points: Beautiful. Perfect age, great classic Napa. (4089 views)
Tasted by ccaffey on 3/13/2017: In my opinion, March 2017 is way beyond the time to drink this wine. (4852 views)
Tasted by Neecies on 6/30/2016: Heavy, jammy fruit with an unctiously sweet finish interrupted only by a faint whiff of dust and beef boullion. Very surprised at this kind of showing from vintage '98. (5209 views)
Tasted by ungerlei on 3/9/2015 & rated 89 points: The time to drink this is over. Still holding up OK, but fruit is fading. Balanced and nice, but not what it likely was 3-5 years ago. This was my last bottle of this. Out with the old and in with the new (5878 views)
Tasted by spts1000 on 3/5/2015 & rated 87 points: better than i thought, but a little late. much better rating if i compare to other 1998s though. (5596 views)
Tasted by gellie on 12/21/2013 & rated 91 points: Excellent.
(6625 views)
Tasted by jonradus on 8/25/2013 & rated 92 points: Surprisingly old word. Black currants and subdued clove nose. Dry cherry and cocoa up front with a dry, chocolaty finish. Strange how Caymus ages into a completely different wine than in its youth. (5456 views)
Tasted by gpatramanis on 2/14/2013 & rated 93 points: Paired with seared duck breast appetizer, and Kobe New York strip entree. Ruby colored. Scrumptious nose. Cherries, red currants. Smooth - Tannins nicely subdued. Love Caymus! Don't wait any longer to drink. (5645 views)
Tasted by RBaird on 1/5/2013 & rated 91 points: fantastic, still full of fruit, full bodied
The wine looks Ruby colored. The legs are Medium. It smells like Blackberry, and Black currant (cassis). (4483 views)
Tasted by golby24 on 11/5/2012 & rated 89 points: The wine looks Garnet colored. It smells like and Fig. (4757 views)
Tasted by GTFreek on 9/21/2012 flawed bottle: Briiiicked. Doh (3533 views)
Tasted by lebo9968@gmail.com on 9/15/2012 & rated 87 points: Dissappointing. Just not much of any fruit left in this wine at all. Consumed over 4 hours, and aerated at times as well. Just not much there. Could it be in a dumb phase and closed? Hoping it would open up, but just not happening. After 3.5 hours, got a hint of eucalyptus, but then it disappeared. (3100 views)
Tasted by omakasekt on 6/6/2012 & rated 89 points: (HK L'Atelier de Joel Robuchon lunch) Somewhat subdued Cali cab probably due to age, which was nice for my taste. Dark colour, dark fruit nose, mild bacon aromas after a while in the glass. Full bodied with quite sharp acidity and moderate tannins. I think this wine can still keep for a while, but I can't see it improving much more in complexity. On the down side the wine was a bit short in the balance department. (2885 views)
Tasted by jtech on 4/7/2012: Clear, deep burgundy core, tawny edges.
Clean nose, medium + intense, some development. A bit hard to get anything out of it, but after a little time and more temperature, some black currant, plum, oak, stable and maybe a touch of sweet tobacco, which joins in the with overall impression of juiciness and some sweetness to the fruit.
Fresh, medium + bodied, medium + acidity, medium tannins, dry, balanced, much the same aromas as on the nose, but confirms the impression of juiciness and sweetness. Medium length on the finish.

This was served blind, after a little bit of reasoning I ended up in right-bank Bordeaux, but also suggested it could be a cool-year in a warmer climate. (3104 views)
Tasted by rho on 5/22/2011 & rated 89 points: Full bodied, soft tannin. Drink now. (4596 views)
Tasted by robtzach on 4/9/2011 & rated 92 points: opened 3 hours prior to pour; nice roundness and mouthfeel - silky; cassis, barnyard and muted oaked fruit. Not the best Caymus I ever tasted but certainly shows its pedigree. (4855 views)
Tasted by Ajtrader on 4/2/2011 & rated 88 points: Meh. After 5 hours, showed a little life, but I've definitely had better from Caymus. (4958 views)
Tasted by jlimberg on 2/21/2011 flawed bottle: Corked and nasty (4976 views)
Tasted by km5 on 2/19/2011 & rated 90 points: Not much of an impression with this one. Drank with a 1994 Caymus and this one did not stand out in any way. Nothing special but does taste like a good quality cab. (4902 views)
Tasted by jce733 on 10/30/2010 & rated 90 points: Definitely a down year for Napa. A lot of Brett, herb, green notes to the wine. Decent fruit on the mid palate but not the best showing for Caymus. (5361 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
