Tasted by Ridgerunner on 4/9/2016 & rated 91 points: A terrific Zin in the nature of a field blend by Mic Unti and his crew! (1386 views)
Tasted by Apatel on 12/26/2015 & rated 89 points: With Aarti/MP Christmas night 2015 (1431 views)
Tasted by vino_per_tutti on 5/22/2015 & rated 87 points: More field blend than straight-up zin, this vintage has lost its pop. Still getting notes of plum, black and red fruit, white pepper on the nose; but palate lacks distinction. Medium finish. Drink up! (1645 views)
Tasted by vino_per_tutti on 9/8/2014 & rated 88 points: Purple (petite syrah really comes through) and red fruit, oak on the nose; red fruit, white pepper and oak on the palate. Good structure - round, medium bodied - and satisfying finish. Food friendly. (2053 views)
Tasted by Enzo D on 3/30/2014 & rated 90 points: Aerated. Nice structure and balance. Not overly fruity. Went very well with Spanish cheese and other appetizers. As others have noted, does not drink so much like a zin but I'm not a huge zin fan so that's good. (2373 views)
Tasted by Tony Poli on 3/12/2014 & rated 89 points: Much more balanced than the last bottle. Pepper and red fruit on the palate. Food friendly and pleasant. (1257 views)
Tasted by itsallaboutwine on 1/24/2014: 14.2%, very parfumed, elegant and not so zin-like, good structure. +++ (1197 views)
Tasted by affordableCollector on 1/22/2014 & rated 87 points: dark red, purple, in color. spice, blackberry, plum, on the nose. oak, spice, pepper, earth, menthol, on the palate. medium acid, medium tannins, on the finish. (1060 views)
Tasted by Tony Poli on 12/23/2013 & rated 88 points: Less zin-like than earlier vintages that I remember. Acidic, a bit out of balance. Better with food. (843 views)
Tasted by sdatl on 11/16/2013 & rated 90 points: Always a reliably refined, elegant, and structured Zin with bright and dark berry flavors that blend well with the touch of oak and tannin. Delicious. (1015 views)

Unti Vineyards

Producer website

Unti Vineyards is a small, no-frills, family-owned and operated winery specializing in red varietal wines with vineyard personality. George and his son Mick believe Dry Creek Valley's climate is ideal for making full-bodied, fruity reds from Zinfandel, Rhone and Italian varietals. In 2004 the Untis began using biodynamic vineyard practices designed to make the vines more self-sustaining and adaptive to their natural environment. The winery, established in 1997, produces small lots of estate grown Zinfandel, Syrah, Grenache, Barbera, Sangiovese, Petite Sirah and a Dry Rose. The winemaking includes artisan methods which enhance and support an ability to make wines with a sense of place. Almost all of the wines, and opinions, are unfiltered.

Zinfandel

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
