Community Tasting Notes (average 89.9 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 18 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by lake.vino on 3/19/2022 & rated 94 points: How do the Marchives make such good juice for such a great price? Hands down my favorite chablis producer - the nicest people making really good, classic wines. Nose powerful iodine, oyster shell, lemon, hints of apple cider, hints of floral. palate with great acidity, hints of partial malolactic, intense mineral, suggestive of some lees aging, long mineral driven finish. This is a near great Chablis - hitting well above both price and really the premier cru designation. (286 views)
Tasted by SGates on 3/20/2020 & rated 90 points: Starting to fade. Not as vibrant as I remember. Still nice Lemon Meringue flavors with some minerality. (626 views)
Tasted by sleepyhaus on 1/18/2016: This bottle showed a bit awkward, a bit too full. Don't think I'd have guessed Chablis if I hadn't known. Decent for what it is, but give it some time. (1742 views)
Tasted by chifred on 12/13/2015 & rated 90 points: 55F. Light yellow. Mineral, pear, apple on the nose and stone and apple on the palate. Very fresh. Builds continuously on the palate to pleasing finish. Young but drinking great if not too cold, improved being open a bit. (1383 views)
Tasted by SGates on 8/29/2015 & rated 90 points: Medium yellow color, weighty with some toast flavors. Hints of pear and citrus fruits. (1609 views)
Tasted by Outplaying on 5/10/2015: Solid, with lemon citrus, green apple, salinity and marine notes. (1587 views)
Tasted by moveablesirkus on 4/24/2015: Beautiful crisp, green apple, sunny and seamless. Drink up (1883 views)
Tasted by thebonnydooner on 1/27/2015 & rated 90 points: Delicious, lighter style but stil with nice minerality, juicy and well balanced, loads of crisp apple and lemon fruit, enjoyed this wine. (1073 views)
Tasted by BrunelloBob on 1/15/2015: Beautiful Wife likes, but would not seek out at price. I allegedly tried it, but am too drunk to remember... (1040 views)
Tasted by Bruce 1er on 1/5/2015 & rated 90 points: Grassy, green apples. Dry, with good acid making for good structure and a crisp finish. (950 views)
Tasted by BrunelloBob on 11/30/2014 & rated 87 points: Mineral, peach, white pear, a bit of saline. lacks acidity. drink young. (1040 views)
Tasted by *Vine* on 10/11/2014: Pale yellow, hints of green. Aromas of lemongrass, stone fruits, florals, wax, sea spray, and minerals. Moderate body. Although perhaps a bit less complex in mouth, the flavors are pronounced and mirror those found on the nose with a touch of apple character in addition to citrus. Decent acidity keeps everything fresh & lively on the lingering close.
Textbook Chablis and outstanding at that, drink now through 2017.

Quick comment: Terrible cork in this bottle. (1153 views)
Tasted by sleepyhaus on 10/2/2014: Accidentally froze the bottle, actually expelled the cork in the process. Replaced the cork and sampled the following day, it appears to have recovered just fine. Nicely mineral Chablis with a lot of material, yet not big or too dense. Should age well. I probably need a lot more 2012 Chablis really. (1131 views)
Tasted by CO CHRIS on 7/27/2014: 13% alc...my favorite part about this wine - not overly complex, just very giving and quintessential Chablis...nose of creamy lees, citrus, lemons, lemon curd, some sort of sweet basil....medium-light body, fireworks of lemon citrus action, salinity, creaminess...then the palate comes back around after 4-5 seconds to clean up w citrus. Won't be extremely long lived but at $20 ish this hits the spot with no cost guilt. (1140 views)
Tasted by Marc on 5/16/2014 & rated 91 points: Chablis Wine Tasting (Maison Vauron, Auckland, New Zealand): Pale yellow - gold. Less ripe and more traditional in style than the 2012 Dampt premier cru tasted before it. Very oyster shell in style. Tight in the mouth and slightly lacking in authority in the finish, although the wine is nuanced, bright and well modulated. The salty tang and linear texture was a knockout with hapuka fish with a beurre blanc. (1528 views)
Tasted by soyhead on 5/13/2014: Nose - hay/grass
Mouth - sour green apple, tangerine, camomile. Tart and lively. For oysters (1127 views)
Tasted by CamWheeler on 3/26/2014 & rated 88 points: Sydney Burgundy Celebration (Sydney, Australia): Citrus aromas of lemon and orange. Gripping acidity, really takes hold of the palate. Needs some time! (1828 views)

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio

Chablis

Chablis (Fédération de Défense de l'Appellation Chablis) | Chablis (Burgundy Wines)

2014 Vintage Notes:
"... a hybrid of 2004/2007 and 2010. The stone, citrus and limestone amalgam is exactly what we search for in Chablis as the style harkens to a day in the Cote de Beaune proper (1960's - 1980's) when wine was not meant to be consumed the week it was released, battonage was not used by all and new oak was rarely seen ... the texture is natural and 'of the vintage' not 'of the winemaker' .... Like Sancerre or the Loire in general, 2014 in Chablis is one of those rare years with extract and transparency. It appears to be a vintage for the "neoclassic" ages and those of us intent on cellaring the most terroir-driven (but still powerful) examples of vineyard, site-place and varietal will want to invest (heavily) in the magnetic and electric 2014's." - Jon Rimmerman

2018 Vintage Notes:
"There’s not that razor sharp Chablis acidity in 2018,” says Patrick Piuze. “But there is good definition of place. The dry conditions drove vines to drink deeper down in the soil profile."
