Community Tasting Notes (average 90.1 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 52 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by WineGuyX on 4/28/2024 & rated 89 points: No decant. Tasted good right off the bat, but is fading in the open bottle. Herbs de Provence and blue and blackberry. Medium-full bodied, with slightly grippy tannin and medium-high acidity. Drink now. 89 (29 views)
Tasted by Gern Blanston on 12/30/2022 & rated 91 points: Loved this. Luscious mouthfeel and oodles of dark fruit. There was a hint of sweetness. Reasonable length in the finish. I wish I had more. (543 views)
Tasted by lucnapo@gmail.com on 2/19/2022: Bon Gigondas! (589 views)
Tasted by malbrecht on 5/17/2021 & rated 90 points: Dark purple in the glass. Nose of blackberry and garrigue. Opens with blackberries and dark cherries, oak and alcohol are apparent, but not overwhelming. Eventually transitions to garrigue with a slight cola note. Tannins are still apparent during the medium length finish. 15% ABV. At 9 years old, this still seems fruit forward, and the tannins suggest that it might go longer. (892 views)
Tasted by philmtl on 1/30/2021: Agréable. (1141 views)
Tasted by Darkhorn on 1/16/2021 & rated 88 points: This has aged nicely. Integrated and balanced. Very soft. Finishes a little fast. I liked it better when it was young. (1044 views)
Tasted by Ianjaig on 7/3/2020 & rated 86 points: Not sure if this has entered an awkward phase, but this was pretty shut down, offering very little of note. The decanted half of the bottle was no different. (1040 views)
Tasted by Marc on 2/8/2020 & rated 91 points: Classy S. Rhone with roasted peanuts and games red fruits. Juicy in personality, nicely balanced, not too massive, supple texture, and gentle structure. Drinking very well at the moment! (1059 views)
Tasted by Avicenne on 3/23/2019 & rated 90 points: Env 39$ jadis
Bien dense, romarin, garrigue, terreux.
**1/2 (1408 views)
Tasted by Ianjaig on 3/10/2019 & rated 92 points: Thought this was beautiful. Blue berries dominate with silky, refined tannins. Lovely. (1079 views)

(1259 views)
Tasted by Pascal on 5/21/2018 & rated 85 points: moins intéressant que le premier. (1688 views)
Tasted by WineGuyX on 5/4/2018 & rated 90 points: Smoky nose with asphalt and scorched earth. Not much in the way of fruit or spice, some brooding black fruits. More lifted in the mouth, with a definite sweetness, medium-full bodied and delicious. Good acid cut and enough tannin for a steak. Not profound, but correct and delicious. Drink now-2022 90 (1392 views)
Tasted by WineGuyX on 11/15/2017 & rated 90 points: Rather simple, even on the second day. It is fresh and inviting if somewhat middle-weight and uncomplicated. Blue and blackberry fruit, spice and some hot gravel. Drink now-2022 90 (1544 views)
Tasted by Pedroel on 4/29/2017 & rated 91 points: My kinda wine! First sip was explosive flavor on a dry frame; after that, the berry uniqueness faded a bit, like my taste buds adapted/retreated. What's with that? The wine or me? (2049 views)
Tasted by Pascal on 12/11/2016 & rated 86 points: Nez et bouche riches et onctueux. Fruits rouges, lard fumé, très rond, presque trop de sucre résiduel, un peu court en bouche mais un RQP exceptionnel cependant. (2439 views)
Tasted by srh on 10/29/2016: Rhone Reds (Vintage Wines Ltd., San Diego, CA): N: Restrained? Yet, a melange of jam, flowers, poss animal blood

P: MF body, almost swtish fruit on front; Long, astringent finish; May just need a couple of yrs to resolve the astringency, then potentially exceptional? 15% ABV, purportedly 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 7% Mourvérde, & 3% Cinsault. [93 pts WS & 92 pts Tanzer, though I was unable to view.] (2362 views)
Tasted by mpsocal on 8/26/2016 & rated 90 points: Strawberry on the nose with flavor of raspberry and blackberry. Slightly tannic with a long finish. Definitely a dry red. Quite enjoyable. (2198 views)
Tasted by KJD45$ on 8/2/2016 & rated 91 points: Color is a deep magenta purple...legs are slow to form...
Nose is primary dark berry, meat, herbal/garrigue, earth.....
Palate is leathery deep dark framboise blackberry, earthy tannin and herbs....this expression is all on the dark earthy cooked fruit side of gigondas.... It's excellent but might not be everyone's favorite.... (2215 views)
Tasted by David J Cooper on 7/29/2016 & rated 91 points: Dark red. Creamy black cherry , smoked meat and earth. Slightly ripe. Delicious black cherry flavors and a nice dry tannic finish.

In a really nice place. (1585 views)
Tasted by BayAreaWildcat on 2/6/2016 & rated 92 points: country wine - a bit rough but very pleasant, med+ to full body, rough edges that soften out with air time. ripe and fairly big. needs 1-2 hr decant right now. (1970 views)
Tasted by henrygjeffreys on 11/1/2015: red colour, pale for Gigondas
liquorice, herbs, great nose
Meaty, nice tannin,
Supple style, long finish
Don't notice the 15%
Expensive £25 Oddbins but worth it (1323 views)
Tasted by Ianjaig on 3/12/2015 & rated 92 points: Berries and liquorice, firm chewy tannins. Lovely. Will buy some more and store away. Excellent value. (2433 views)
Tasted by PetePullen on 3/8/2015 & rated 91 points: Dark berry aromas and flavors. Some licorice and spices. Just bought 4 bottles, and still very young, but wanted to try one. Will let the others rest for a while to see how it develops. But, well-balanced and delicious right now. (2125 views)
Tasted by BordeauxBuff on 3/6/2015 & rated 87 points: Okay....Slight preference towards the 2011............ (2063 views)

Red Rhone Blend

Read about the different grapes used to produce red and white Rhone wines
On CellarTracker, Red Rhone Blend is the term for a wine consisting of two or more of the traditional 13 Southern Rhone grape varieties. Typically it's the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre or Cinsault grapes, but can also contain the Muscardin, Counoise, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Picpoul, Roussanne, Terret Noir, Picardan or Vaccarese grapes.

A 'food' wine. Lacking pretension and intended for local consumption with local cuisine. Lacks the 'high' notes on a Bordeaux, more earthy and sharper so often a better partner to meat dishes with a sauce.
