Community Tasting Notes (average 92 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 95 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Nick72wine on 8/13/2023 & rated 91 points: Well made bottle of Toro, lots of oak on the nose, coffee and plum, bit of violets in the mix.
Bone dry wine, with fine tannins, slight earthy character mixed with a hint of chocolate and vanilla, a bit of cherry on a medium length finish.
Not a big fan of this style anymore, also the 15.5% alcohol is a bit over the top...really a steak wine. (313 views)
Tasted by whudock on 6/12/2023 & rated 92 points: took three hours to open, but when it did it was wonderful. The fruit is diminished but the balance continues to be strong. Lots of leather, tobacco, fine tannin, iron and earth complement the dark fruits and plum notes. (397 views)
Tasted by BURGHen Boy on 4/15/2023 & rated 92 points: From magnum, decanted for one hour. This is in the right spot age wise. The grip is still there but the coating of wood and tanin is smooth and supple. Upfront dark cherry turns into forest floor and sous bois. Medium finish with licorice and tar. (438 views)
Tasted by NoWineWiz on 2/12/2023 & rated 91 points: From 1.5L - PnP. Enjoyable combination of dusty dark fruit and tobacco, with notes of balsamic, leather, & smoke. Tannins are nearly resolved with a pleasant, medium long finish. (231 views)
Tasted by Zitan on 9/25/2022 & rated 91 points: Last of a case bought in 2012 - was outstanding 3 or 4 years ago - past peak but good now with 90 mins air for the mustiness to blow off - drink up! (720 views)
Tasted by vinodolphin on 6/8/2022 & rated 91 points: Perhaps not as good as the first bottle but very nice. (764 views)
Tasted by Tige on 2/7/2022 & rated 89 points: Dernière bouteille de 3.
(934 views)
Tasted by corkscrews on 7/7/2021 & rated 95 points: A nose of dark fruit and dark coffee, dark purple in color. A full bodied red, with blackberry, black cherry, black currants, chocolate and spice on long finish. In a great drinking zone, short decant, is one of the best QPR’s that exist in the wine world. www.winelx.com (1199 views)
Tasted by MuseMaven on 4/10/2021 & rated 94 points: This is what I drink wine for. Still needed a little air time, but structured with dark fruits, very long finish. A pleasure to sip. Held this for more than 10 years and it was so worth it. (1407 views)
Tasted by Liskit on 5/24/2020 & rated 90 points: Complex nose with layers of dark fruits, tobacco, leather, vanilla. Very powerful, full bodied, still very high acidity and grippy tannins. Probably could gain from further aging in the bottle in the next 3-5 years. (1556 views)
Tasted by Sorrowless on 3/10/2020 & rated 93 points: Great wine that is just starting to come into optimal drinking window. The last glass actually turned out to be the best, so decant for a couple of hours. The wine was full of dark fruit, dark chocolate, highly complex and long after. Initially a bit of heat from unintegrated alcohol, but this went away after an hour or two. Great wine at a decent price. (1543 views)
Tasted by Kevin Staveley on 2/22/2020 & rated 94 points: I let this incredible Spanish red decant for at least 3 to 4 hours & when poured it truly showed its maturity with its deep dark purple colour. When swirled a quick primary set of tears appeared and to the nose big dark red fruit aromas very noticeable. Secondary notes of wood & vanilla as well showed themselves. The structure of this wine was incredible with medium acidity, low tannins, medium alcohol, & a full body complex finish. What an incredible wine still one of my favourites. (1630 views)
Tasted by whudock on 11/3/2019 & rated 96 points: Drinking even better than the last bottle. This is everything that a Tempranillo can be. (1535 views)
Tasted by stevegpg on 7/6/2019 & rated 93 points: Dark fruit nose and flavors, particularly plumb. Secondary Smokey and spice flavors on back end. Was superb with grilled ribeye. (1598 views)
Tasted by WineCPA on 5/29/2019 & rated 93 points: Smooth, lush and ready to drink. Tannins have integrated nicely. Nose and palate are full with tar, leather and black cherry. Plum is also noticeable. Drink now-2022. (1455 views)
Tasted by PSUSteve on 12/31/2018 & rated 92 points: PnP from a magnum. Dark fruit with a smoky, coffee/mocha and spice layer. Oak is present but has integrated well and not as obvious as I have had from this producer. (1454 views)
Tasted by CRUSHER on 11/10/2018 & rated 95 points: great wine and great value. one of the top Spanish wines in my opinion. (1542 views)
Tasted by vinodolphin on 4/18/2018 & rated 93 points: Terrific, drank over two days and was better day 2. Let this one breathe a bit. (1837 views)
Tasted by CRUSHER on 2/10/2018 & rated 95 points: consistently good, one of my favorite spanish wines (1743 views)
Tasted by youvebeenhearnedLLC on 1/4/2018 & rated 93 points: Absurdly good and drinking well now. Still enough grip from the tannins to make me believe that this might withstand additional horizontal time, however. (1832 views)
Tasted by WinePT on 12/17/2016 & rated 90 points: From a 1.5L. Decanted for 30 min-1 hr and tasted over 3 hrs. Soft red and dark fruits, earth, vanilla, mild spice. Smooth body with tannins that are well integrated except on the backend. This is end a good place. I'd drink up. (2436 views)
Tasted by dron_ap on 11/18/2016: ripe and ready (2488 views)
Tasted by JKelly05 on 11/13/2016: Decanted 2 hours.
Purple black and opaque.
Dark black fruits, vanilla, oak, menthol and green notes.
Brooding ripe black fruits, scorched earth, vanilla, cola spice. Good weight on the mid, full on attack and long finish. Wine is full and present, however Seems flat, maybe past peak, going to open the 09 soon. All the elements are there and integrated but just closed and shut down. (2433 views)
Tasted by WineCPA on 8/15/2016 & rated 92 points: Consistent with my prior note. Not much has changed. Drink now-2020. (2682 views)

Vinos de España - Wines of Spain (Instituto Español de Comercio Exterior) | Wikipedia
Wine Map on weinlagen-info

Spain is the third largest wine producing nation in the world, occupying the majority of the Iberian Peninsula with vast diversity in climate, culture, and of course, wine. From inky, dark reds of the [Priorat] to dry, white Finos from Andalusia, Spain can easily boast of elaborating a wide variety of notable styles. Within Spain there are currently 62 demarcated wine regions, of which a handful have gained international recognition: [Rioja], Priorat and [Ribera del Duero]. Yet these regions are only a small sample of the high quality wines Spain produces. Regions such as Cava, Penedes, Somontano, Galicia, Rueda and Jerez are only a few of the numerous regions worthy of exploration throughout Spain. Spain can also lay claim to having the most land under vine in the world, growing up to, by some accounts, 600 indigenous varietals of which Tempranillo is their most well known. Other popular varietals include [Garnacha], Bobal and Monastrell for reds and for whites; the infamous [sic] Palomino Fino grape which is used in the production of sherry wine, Pedro Ximenez in Montilla Morilles, Albarino used in the creation of the bright, effervescent wines of Galicia, and Verdejo in Rueda. - Source: - Catavino.net

Spain is not in the forefront of winemaking for its dessert wines, other than for its sweet wines from Sherry country including the highly revered Olorosos (when sweetened). But apart from Sherry Spain has a range of styles of dessert wines, ranging from the those made from the Pedro Ximenez grape primarily in Jerez and Montilla-Moriles) to luscious, red dessert wines made in the Mediterranean from the Garnacha (Grenache) grape. Some good Moscatels are made in Mallorca, Alicante and Navarre. The northwest corner of Spain, Galicia, with its bitter Atlantic climate, is even making dessert wines, called “Tostadillos” in the village of Ribadivia (similar to France’s “Vin de Paille”). The Canary Islands have made interesting dessert wines for centuries (they are mentioned by Shakespeare, for example) and in recent years the quality of winemaking has been improved and the Canary Islands wines are being better marketed now. The winemaking styles for “Vinos Dulces” are also diverse, from “Late Harvest” (Vendimia Tardía) to “Fortified Wines” (Fermentación Parcial). Based on in-spain.info.
