| Community Tasting Notes (average 92.2 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 37 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by kenthecpa on 8/30/2022 & rated 94 points: Just a beautiful wine! Vanilla scent. (527 views) | | Tasted by rosenst1 on 9/23/2021 & rated 91 points: PnP. Medium gold. Lovely nose of orchard and tropical fruits. Good intensity on the palate with rounded fruit and high extract complemented by a high acid finish. This bottle is certainly not past its prime has been cellared at 58 degrees since release. I expect this will improve tomorrow or could use a decant. More intense than a Cuvee Cathleen we had recently but not as well balanced and elegant. (1114 views) | | Tasted by hsacks on 8/1/2021 & rated 90 points: Disappointingly, this bottle had a brownish gold color and was oxidized. Nevertheless, this wine was delicious with my wife’s spicy side stripe shrimp and book chow with XO sauce. (1171 views) | | Tasted by hsacks on 7/19/2021 & rated 93 points: Medium yellow color. Aromas of ripe apples, honeysuckle and hazelnuts. Ripe, full-bodied fruit in the mouth with excellent depth and length. Nicely full and long on the palate. A delicious wine that is still fully intact but just a touch less exciting than the outstanding 2014 version of this wine. (1135 views) | | Tasted by kenthecpa on 5/14/2021 & rated 81 points: Corked but only mildly. Down the drain unfortunately. (1183 views) | | Tasted by DickMull on 4/1/2021 & rated 92 points: This fully mature wine was delicious right after opening, with lovely notes of tangerine, papaya, and brioche on the nose. Palate was medium to full in body, round in texture, and showed flavors of tropical fruit, honey, vanilla, with a bit of a nutty touch. I do think it will keep for a little while longer, but is probably at or near it’s peak. (986 views) | | Tasted by bonedoc on 6/24/2020 & rated 92 points: Butterscotch, ripe and rich. I’ve had a lot of 11’s and 12’s be premoxed, this one was mature for sure, but not flawed. (1017 views) | | Tasted by bonedoc on 4/26/2020: a little flabby, lacking acidity and structure....but not bad. 90-92 (1081 views) | | Tasted by BastardMontrachet on 1/4/2020 & rated 93 points: This feels very mature with a fine golden colour, nose is full of mushrooms, nuts, lime. Taste is really god and dominated by lemon notes with a great oily structure, great length as well. (1300 views) | | Tasted by andrewdodd86 on 8/25/2019 & rated 94 points: Kiawah Trip 2019; 8/24/2019-9/4/2019 (Kiawah Island): Good. Well aged, not over oxidized. (1597 views) | | Tasted by rustyRudy on 8/25/2019 & rated 94 points: Beach Chardonnay tasting, moderately Oakes with butter and ripe apple. My third place against tough competition. (1704 views) | | Tasted by tak4 on 1/12/2019 & rated 93 points: Bay Area Wine Tour; 1/11/2019-1/15/2019 (Bay Area, CA): Lovely color. Brininess on nose, touch of banana, passionfruit, pineapple. Lovely and clean. Long finish. Fruit strong and great complexity. Just softer than the 2016. (2004 views) | | Tasted by WoodieBayArea on 4/29/2018 flawed bottle: dark and caramelized... down the drain / undrinkable (1909 views) | | Tasted by WoodieBayArea on 2/16/2018: NR as this is really not my style... can't tell if Kistler is going more rich / lush slowly but surely, or more likely my tastes continue to migrate toward minerality, high acidity, citrus profile elements. In any case I suspect most CA chard folks would give this a 92 or 93... I agree with 'winelover1808' comment -- "Amazing. Lush but smooth and delicious", but not my style per se (1784 views) | | Tasted by winelover1808 on 1/24/2018 & rated 93 points: Amazing. Lush but smooth and delicious (1632 views) | | Tasted by mnoljo on 12/24/2017 & rated 92 points: Drinking well similar thoughts as last time (1713 views) | | Tasted by winelover1808 on 10/24/2017 & rated 92 points: this is a great bottle - within the kistler line up, this was the most californian to me - bigger more buttery notes, more oak. but it was terrific and my wife and i enjoyed it over two days. (1756 views) | | Tasted by rosenst1 on 7/11/2017 & rated 91 points: PnP. Medium deep gold. Intense nose of lime and citrus some vanilla and just powerful. On the palate this has reasonable balance with intensity; dry extract is very high, oak is there but the wine is huge and needs more time. I have found that the Kistler Carneros bottlings have better aging/balance than those from Sonoma. Should improve with air and overnight. (1565 views) | | Tasted by BuzzzzOff on 12/1/2016 & rated 93 points: Kistler...need we say more!? More than ready to sip now, will loiter elegantly for another few years, but we are confident of sipping every bottle before that year arrives :-( Just too good. Patience is a mean-spirited and this time a likely loser of a virtue. (2366 views) | | Tasted by galewskj on 11/13/2016 & rated 92 points: "Mike needs Surgery" Celebratory Dinner (Jason and Mariellen's): Pop and pour, drank a small glass over about 30 minutes. Modern with oak, this wine was surprisinly well-developed for a 2012. Charred oak, nuts, a little butter and a lot of malolactic fermentation. (2346 views) | | Tasted by bonedoc on 6/1/2016 & rated 92 points: didn't show well against morlet cdc/mp, hobbs ed james, peter Michael carrier, stonestreet upper barn, kind of end of the pack with some leesy/yeasty undertones. maybe needs more time. (2915 views) | | Tasted by mnoljo on 3/27/2016 & rated 92 points: Still young great structure and finish that lasts. Instead of going to eleven it goes to ten and half which is a good thing. (2309 views) | | Tasted by BuzzzzOff on 6/13/2015 & rated 96 points: We enjoyed an evening at home with some new wine friends and dubbed it a Krazy Kistler Knockout with a vertical of Hudson Chards (2009 - 2012), 3 Occidentals (SWK 2012, Elizabeth 2012 and Catherine 2011) and a Natalie 2011. Wow! Greenish yellow colour. Beyonce-like perfume on the nose. Huge texture on the palate. Quite a few years before reaching what may be the ultimate statement of Kistler Chardonnays! (3280 views) | | Tasted by BuzzzzOff on 5/13/2015 & rated 94 points: Outstanding now, but will develop into something special in the coming 5+ years. A winner!!! (2562 views) | | Tasted by tinybubbles on 1/9/2015 & rated 93 points: Dried lemon, honeydew, rocks. Nice balance of deep bright fruit, acid, and accents from the oak. Positive waypoint on the evolution of Kistler. Worth holding for a few years. (2799 views) | | Only displaying the 25 most recent notes - click to see all notes for this wine... |

| Kistler Producer websiteChardonnay The Chardonnay GrapeUSAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Napa / SonomaSONOMA: The Yorkville Highlands AVA, approved in 1998, is located in the southwestern corner of Mendocino County, between Sonoma County's Alexander Valley to the South and Mendocino County!s Anderson Valley to the North. The region is 25 miles long, roughly in the shape of rectangle and bisected by Highway 128 which runs the length of the AVA. The region!s terrain is hilly and forested, with elevations ranging from 1,078 to 2,442 feet above sea level. The distinguishing features of the Yorkville Highlands AVA are rocky soils with a high gravel content and the climate, which is cooler than Alexander Valley but warmer than Anderson Valley, and significantly cooler at night than the surrounding areas.CarnerosStraddles the southern ends of Napa & Sonoma Counties. |
