| Community Tasting Notes (average 85 pts. and median of 85 pts. in 4 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by Green on 6/27/2009 & rated 83 points: Great nose and great flavor up front, but ends on a bitter and almost acidic note, which ruined it for me. (1652 views) | | Tasted by BSpdx on 8/24/2008 & rated 82 points: Rich, golden in color, with a faint nose of apple and nuts that carries to the palate. There is some nice upfront fruit, particularly a little melon, along with honeysuckle, but it tails at the end and becomes just a touch bitter and hot. Improves with air so I would recommend letting this breath. (1492 views) | | Tasted by Tejano on 7/22/2006 & rated 87 points: Light pale yellow color, not quite gold with a nose giving nuances of some citrus and a touch of ripe melon with a little mineral backing. Unobtrusive and light entry with a pleasant mid palate and a lingering finish that had a medium fruit texture. Hardly in your face, rather muted and demure. (1788 views) | | Tasted by PBaird on 5/23/2006 & rated 88 points: Pale gold. Nutty, citris aromas with notes of cream and yeast. Good intensity and complexity. Medium bodied, bright wine-- lime, lemon, peach and hazelnut flavors backed by flinty notes. Bright acidity gives good length and balances the ample fruit. Hazelnuts, peaches and a touch of honey on the fairly long finish. Nothing like a typical Cali white... I would guess a Loire, tasted blind. Bonny Doon claims this wine is ageworthy (6 or so years of improvement) but I doubt I'll wait that long. (2127 views) |
| Bonny Doon Vineyard Producer website
Bonny Doon was sold in early 2020 to "WarRoom", a wine production and marketing entity formed in 2018. Per a January 2020 Decanter article - https://www.decanter.com/wine-news/californias-bonny-doon-sold-430550/ - "Graham will retain creative control of Bonny Doon’s wines, but production will change from 35,000 cases of 15 different wines annually to just four wines: the flagship red Rhône blend Le Cigare Volant; Le Cigare Blanc (based on Vermentino); Vin Gris de Cigare (a Rhône varietal rosé); and a 100% Picpoul."Chenin Blanc Varietal character (Appellation America)USAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson CaliforniaNapa Valley.http://www.stagecoachvineyard.com/vineyards/our_vineyards.php Santa Ynez.http://www.everyvine.com/org/Camp_Four/vineyard/Camp_Four/ |
