Vibrant raspberry and strawberry with top notes of freesia. Mid weight, quite rounded and smooth even from cellar temperature. Lots of fun, and a super pizza wine. ***1/2 (951 views) | | Tasted by SimonG on 8/23/2017 & rated 90 points: Started off at cellar temperature — vibrant raspberry fruit with a sweet core and a fresh finish. Puts on weight and develops a plush, velvety texture as it warms with a mulberry fruit and white pepper. Very floral and fragrant, rose-scented. Lots of interest here. Lovely. Great with pizza and lovely to carry on drinking in to the evening. ***1/2 (1331 views) | | Tasted by partylikeakennedy on 4/16/2016 & rated 89 points: Interesting. Not super complex, but light and pleasant. Nose of black pepper. Palate carries the pepper notes over, and adds a wee touch of cherry plus another flavor I can only describe as rainwater. Like, dusty water. If that makes any sense. (1914 views) | | Tasted by Tim Heaton on 7/21/2015: PnP. Murky ruby color, with aromas of rose water, Off! bug spray, new rubber ducky, soil, and with some swirling, sweet red currants and rhubarb. Medium(-) palate, with above-average persistence, but in need of additional definition on the mid-palate; flavors of Rhubarb and cherry phosphate. Probably better to stick with antipasti than it is to pair this with a primi or secondi. By the second glass, this has become quite pretty and in the way that Ruché can, it becomes elegant, too; dry, with ripe, thin tannins. A lovely Ambassador for the tiny village of Castagnole and the humble Monferrato. Quite brilliantly balanced, too; a definite reload. 13,5% abv., thru 2016. recommended
Served non-blind. I'll save the 2nd half of the bottle for tomorrow's lunch and update with anything of note.

Good pizza wine with some interest. *** (2288 views) | | Tasted by depechemoroder on 11/23/2014 & rated 87 points: A most interesting wine. Really evolves as it opens and needs time in the decanter, but a nose of cherry, rhubarb, bubblegum, and dried roses. The floral notes were particularly pronounced. On the plate cherry, rhubarb, blueberry, and a nice confected note, with some minerals, sweet herbs, and faint hints of graphite. In a nutshell, it's an interesting wine with facets of Cabernet Franc, Beaujolais, and red Burgundy. Tannins are supple, and acidity fresh, but best consumed in the next few years. Nose is clean, medium intensity, with aromas of rosewater. Youthful. On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium+ alcohol, low tannins, medium-body. Medium flavour intensity, with flavours of rose syrup, sweet red cherries, and strawberries. Medium- finish. Acceptable quality. Overall simple and horizontal tasting. Rose flavour bordering on the sickly sweet side. Drink now while fresh. (2087 views) |
