Community Tasting Notes (average 91.9 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 112 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by CamWheeler on 10/13/2022 & rated 92 points: SLDS October 2022: Honeyed, peach, spice and earthy notes. Palate is very clear and clean, with good acid drive that carries and flows very well. Lovely length, this is a great mix of freshness and complexity. Drinking very well now. (629 views)
Tasted by Racer117 on 5/13/2022 & rated 92 points: This last bottle is leaning more towards old than aged but its still enjoyable. Still has bubbles, some fruit, nice complexity. Drink up. (2107 views)
Tasted by Danielbudslick on 7/21/2021: Drank, Elma’s 26th birthday. Beach bistro. (2780 views)
Tasted by Chrisinroch on 9/9/2020 flawed bottle: from a .375

cooked. (3549 views)
Tasted by sh6k on 7/24/2020 & rated 92 points: Past its prime — oxidation and cooked notes — but so good — rich and full and long finish. Drink now. (3624 views)
Tasted by Keith Cooper on 10/24/2019 & rated 90 points: This was very generously served as aperitif by our lunch host. Sadly, we tasted it after a superb Dom Perignon from the same vintage, so whilst good, this was a little underwhelming. Nutty gold colour. The nose clearly showed age with little fruit remaining. However, there was apricot and almonds on the palate, it was rich, and held up well in the glass. Really interesting to taste this champagne, but I think any remaining stocks should be drunk soon.  Tasted by spacewrangler on 8/25/2019 & rated 90 points: As others mentioned, well-stored bottles should continue to provide pleasure for another 5-10 years, but this isn't going to make old bones. Orange creamsicle, honey and ginger zest with medium body, slightly oxidized but appropriate for the age. (3122 views)
Tasted by NickA on 8/20/2019 & rated 91 points: BYO with the parents (Chez Bruce): In a lovely place - restrained by persistent mousse, gorgeous golden colour, nicely rich and oxidised - but lacks the impact or complexity to merit a higher score. Agree with previous reviews that suggest these should be drunk sooner rather than later. (2645 views)
Tasted by danckie on 10/21/2018 & rated 92 points: Nice stuff. Elegant bubbles. The age clearly shows.
Oxidative style. Some sherry, lemon, apple. Developed over the course of a couple of hours. Lemon becomes more dominant towards the end. Quite nice. Won’t last forever but no real hurry either. (2660 views)
Tasted by Racer117 on 9/26/2018 & rated 93 points: Another nice bottle. As before, I don't think this will make it another 10 years but its beautiful now with pleasant aged mustiness along with some citrus, stone fruit, and burnt sugar. Plenty of fizziness still in the bottle. (2680 views)
Tasted by Ridgerunner on 5/19/2018 & rated 93 points: Really enjoying this aged sparkler (2568 views)
Tasted by Baron Slick on 4/15/2018 & rated 92 points: Showed all the hallmarks of great vintage champagne. Ripe, nutty bouquet of apples, stonefruit, and sweet bread show a hint of oxidative goodness. The palate is brisk, vibrant, and resonant, showing lemon citrus flavors laced by a touch of soft caramel, juicy acidity, and lovely bottle age maturity. Long and refreshing and finishes with vigor and elegant precision. And though this gives the impression that it won't get better it isn't going anywhere anytime soon. (2551 views)
Tasted by jlgnml on 4/10/2018: Time is sipping by and drink up (526 views)
Tasted by Racer117 on 3/10/2018 & rated 93 points: Aged and beautiful but I don't see this celebrating its 40th birthday with grace and class. Drink soon.

Beautiful medium clear golden color; enjoyable musty nose with burnt sugar and caramel hints; crisp body with moderate bubbles and some citrus and stone fruit flavors. (2662 views)
Tasted by BillyT on 10/25/2017 & rated 91 points: Classic vintage flavor profile. Color almost that of deep gold hue. Yeast, brioche but can only say that it was aged but bright fruit of apricot, orange, with exceptional balance in terms of fruit and sweetness. Lingering soft finish with a hint of acidity. Excellent. (2641 views)
Tasted by Ridgerunner on 10/4/2017 & rated 93 points: Great toasty quality... very delicious! (2582 views)
Tasted by jlgnml on 12/27/2016 & rated 88 points: A bit tired, darker color, not much pop in the opening, small bubbles, Apple, tart, developed a bit over time in the glass, drink up. (799 views)
Tasted by TayoW on 7/28/2016 flawed bottle: on the rapid decline (5030 views)
Tasted by nphase on 4/9/2016 & rated 87 points: Over the hill. (5679 views)
Tasted by TayoW on 1/17/2016 & rated 89 points: a large strong mousse but a mellowed palate showing its slightly passed its prime. (5574 views)
Tasted by robdicks on 1/8/2016 & rated 90 points: Good, but clearly held too long (5250 views)
Tasted by chcook on 11/27/2015: Brief note. This seems mature to me, with that fresh bread note on the nose and butterscotch on the palate. despite the signs of oxidation the acid supports it and keeps it interesting. it is quite nice right now, but if I had some I would consider drinking it. would be a pity to let these get too old I think. (5212 views)
Tasted by narraboth on 2/15/2015 & rated 91 points: well mature in bottle, sweet yeasty, baked apple, caramel aroma. Aroma getting stronger after a while. Still feeling fresh thank to very good acidity of this vintage. Round body and mineral. Taste of everything: acidity, sweet, spicy and bitter. Long mouth-watering finish. For a non-prestige cuvee this is very impressive. (4187 views)
Tasted by Marc on 11/29/2014 & rated 91 points: Day after BBQ (Ponsonby, Auckland, New Zealand): Beautifully cellared in a cold cellar. This bottle was vibrant and fresh, but also displayed delicious botle age character. Long and complex but with verve. (4778 views)
Tasted by Pavan on 11/28/2014 & rated 94 points: Vibrant and precise, focused with rich golden colour, plenty of grapefruit and peach and long full taste (3547 views)

France - When it comes to wine, France stands alone. No other country can beat it in terms of consistent quality and diversity. And while many of its Region, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne most obviously, produce wine as rare, as sought-after and nearly as expensive as gold, there are just as many obscurities and values to be had from little known appellations throughout the country. To learn everything there is to know about French wine would take a lifetime. To understand and appreciate French wine, one only has to begin tasting them. Click for a list of bestselling items from all of France.
Sub-Region:

Champagne - The French region of Champagne (including the cities of Rheims, Épernay, and Aÿ) was the first region in the world to make sparkling wine in any quantity. Today, the name of the region is synonymous with the finest of all sparkling wines, and wine-making traditions of Champagne have become role models for sparkling wine producers, worldwide. Surprisingly, the region of Champagne is now responsible for only one bottle in 12 of all sparkling wine produced. Styles of champagne range in sweetness ranging from an extra brut or brut 0, to the basic brut to demi sec to doux; some houses produce single vintage champagnes and others produce non-vintage (or incorporate wines/grapes of multiple vintages), often to preserve a specific taste; combinations of grape varietals; and colors, including a rosé. There are several sub-appellations, including the Valley of the Marnes river running from Épernay west, Massif de Saint-Thierry north and west of Rheims, Valley of the Ardre, the Mountains of Rheims (between Rheims and Épernay), Côte des Blancs, Côte de Sézanne, and Côte des Bar in the South. Champagne wine only uses three grape varietals (cépages): Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier.
