| Community Tasting Notes (average 90.4 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 17 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by Pebben on 11/24/2019 & rated 90 points: Pretty much consistent with previous note. (2020 views) | | Tasted by Pebben on 5/26/2019 & rated 89 points: From memory: Lovely nose with hints of red cherries, rose petals, marzipan, spices and cedar-wood. Still pretty tightly wound on the palate, though – definitely needs food to show its best. Should probably be cellared for another three to four years, but I’m not entirely convinced it has the stuffing to improve a whole lot. Solid quality, but questionable QPR at over $60 a bottle (89-90 points). (2082 views) | | Tasted by bugdoced on 6/9/2018 & rated 91 points: old world fruit throughout with an earth forward flavor profile that is in my wheelhouse The subtleties and length are terrific good with and without food (2711 views) | | Tasted by Winemaker51 on 2/11/2018 & rated 88 points: Still tightly wound; that took to the end of the bottle to reveal its charms. It is lighter in body than I thought for the vintage. I would give this another 2+ years with lighter, less heavy dishes. I’ve had better Barbarescos at lower price points. (2853 views) | | Tasted by chasr3 on 6/25/2017 & rated 89 points: Ruby red with a dense style but it has finesse and balance with a cherry and plum taste. Had with a piedmontese cheese (montebore) a nice creamy style cheese and then on to a boneless pork loin with a tangy raspberry sauce accompanied with mashed potatoes and julienned steamed carrots. This could be a striking wine down the road so yes I have 2 more bottles (3664 views) | | Tasted by Phenol73 on 6/4/2016 & rated 93 points: (Decanter Italy Tasting 2016) :: Colour showing some brick hue on the edge. Quite a mineral / tar driven nose, but still with a good balance of fruit and floral elements. Great elegance and good complexity. A huge tannin frame, but not drying, and excellent freshness and persistence. Fantastic. (3109 views) | | Tasted by RajivAyyangar on 2/28/2016 & rated 88 points: James Suckling - Great Wines of Italy (SF): Pretty and ripe but structured. Shows development. Red dried cherry. 14.5% (3960 views) | | Tasted by Nanda on 10/21/2015 & rated 90 points: Brief Tasting at Pio Cesare (Alba, Piedmont, Italy): 35% in barrique (1/3 new) with the rest in cask. Full with fresh black cherry and spice notes. Juicy on entry with a lively and energetic cut. Medium to full bodied. Polished fruit. Spice filled finish. 90-92 (2776 views) |

| Pio Cesare Producer website |http://mmdusa.net/portfolio/pio-cesare Importer website]NebbioloNebbiolo is a red grape indigenous to the Piedmont region of Italy in the Northwest. The grape can also be found in other parts of the world, though they are not as respected.
Nebbiolo is often considered the "king of red wines," as it is the grape of the famed wines of Barolo DOCG, Barbaresco DOCG, and Roero DOCG. It is known for high tannins and acidity, but with a distinct finesse. When grown on clay, Nebbiolo can be very powerful, tannic, and require long aging periods to reach its full potential. When grown on sand, the grape exhibits a more approachable body with more elegant fruit and less tannins, but still has high aging potential.
"Nebbiolo" is named for the Italian word, "nebbia", which means "fog", in Italian and rightfully so since there is generally a lot of fog in the foothills of Piedmont during harvest.
Nebbiolo is a late-ripening variety that does best in a continental climate that boasts moderate summers and long autumns. In Piedmont, Nebbiolo is normally harvested in October.
