Tasted by Just Grapes on 8/22/2015 & rated 92 points: 10 years old and still a great bottle of Zinfandel. Fruit has not subsided. White pepper and spice notes dominate. Tannins have woven themselves seamlessly into this wine. Fantastic! Consumed my last two 2005's and both were very consistent with one another. (2815 views)
Tasted by pauldenisarcher on 4/17/2015 & rated 89 points: Still good, but definitely time to drink up (this was a magnum too). (2859 views)
| Tasted by VinoDiver on 9/13/2014 & rated 92 points: 2014 Fall Wine Dinner - Chicago (Chicago): A great wine with strong fruit. As I noted in my previous notes I think this needs a little time in the decanter (2 hours this time) as when first open the alcohol can dominate, but after a few hours it really is a nice wine. | Tasted by Ed B on 7/21/2014 & rated 87 points: PnP at a restaurant. No detailed notes. Seemed simplistic and rather mellow. Some of the old spice was still there, but I think this one has passed it's time. (3349 views) |
Tasted by Bill in Chicago on 7/13/2014 & rated 95 points: Stored in Eurocave at 55F since release - Wine is nicely acidic, good fruit and aged perfectly. Great balance of tannins - really joy to drink. (1656 views)
Tasted by turbochad on 5/18/2014 & rated 93 points: Fantastic Zin. Spicy, leather and mineral notes. Dry, full bodied and long finish. What more could you want in a great Zin. (1518 views)
Tasted by Goskins2 on 2/23/2014 & rated 93 points: 2 hour decant...wonderful (1734 views)
Tasted by tomlee on 8/25/2013 & rated 93 points: Another great showing for this bottle. I disagree with the comments regarding the alcohol being out of check. Delicious wine paired brilliantly with barbeque fare. (1609 views)
Tasted by iamandyc on 5/10/2013 & rated 87 points: Mature with spicy dense fruit. Thick body. (1652 views)
Tasted by cofidis2 on 4/5/2013 & rated 75 points: While there is some spices, tannins, and fading fruit left in this. Those are overshadowed by huge amounts of alcohol dominating everything. This is falling apart fast and will continue to get hotter when what little fruit is left fades even more. We could only manage a glass each and the rest was poured out. (1762 views)
Tasted by Grape_ape on 3/25/2013 & rated 87 points: I think this is beyond peak and would drink up if you have them... lost that vibrant, peppery nose that I recall from my last bottle. Dominated by dark fruit, bit of alcohol on the nose, but seeming a little over the hill. Still manages to remain fairly balanced though considering hte 16.2% abv.. going to accelerate drinking the few later vintages I have. (1705 views)
Tasted by marka on 2/27/2013 & rated 91 points: Nice bright mountain fruit. I would never guess the alc is 16+. No way. Had with ribs and then finished with burgers. Nice nose of berries and a bit of violet. Good integration. (1567 views)
Tasted by MPH on 1/13/2013 & rated 94 points: Wish it weren't my last! (1545 views)
Tasted by tomlee on 11/8/2012 & rated 92 points: The wine is a gorgeous ruby red in color. A killer nose of briar, red fruits and pepper. Jammy red fruits, flowers, crushed berries, stones, licorice, ripe raspberries and white pepper on the palate. Dusty tannins and a long finish complete this wine. 16.2% ABV and despite recent reviews to the contrary the alcohol on this wine is in check. (1778 views)
Tasted by brian przyzycki on 10/19/2012 & rated 90 points: Tons of black fruits with a short finish. Got shorter as the night went on instead of the opposite. One of the few times wine spectator has been off. I regret my purchase....glad this was the last bottle. Served with rack of lamb. (1539 views)
Tasted by Blcmdpa@gmail.com on 3/2/2012 & rated 90 points: Still some fruit, meduim finish, tannic ending, but good sense of tobacco and leather dominate the fruit, this bottle seems in better balance than prior ones, perhaps better on the 2nd day. Not a fruit bomb, more backbone. Too bad its the last one..... (2522 views)
Tasted by jtcseventysix on 12/11/2011 & rated 87 points: Ruby red color with a nose of white pepper and ripe raspberry jam; big jammy fruit but a tannic backbone; elegant structure and well-balanced. (3486 views)
Tasted by brian przyzycki on 12/5/2011 & rated 91 points: I now agree with other posters...the fruit is starting to fade on these. 16.2% knocked my on my a** again. Drink up. (2791 views)
Tasted by Blcmdpa@gmail.com on 11/22/2011 & rated 89 points: still some fruit, not too full and pretty hot on the finish (2464 views)
Tasted by Goskins2 on 10/23/2011 & rated 90 points: Multi hour decant...was nice...not awesome. Based on other community comments, wish I had tried this one a year or two ago... (2550 views)

Tasted by djs on 8/13/2011 & rated 90 points: VG except for the alcohol on the palate. (2624 views)
Tasted by silton on 7/21/2011 & rated 89 points: This was peaking 2009-2010 IMO. Now the alcohol juts out, with the great peppery character of the wine sort of overpowering everything else. Had its moments in the middle of the bottle. 88-90. (2658 views)
