| Community Tasting Notes (average 90.8 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 19 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by Kznkaos on 2/24/2016 & rated 88 points: Very surprised by the finish this wine still had due to age. I thought I had missed the mark. Still buttery, good fruit, oak, silky and a beautiful light golden color the chardonnay should have. (2055 views) | | Tasted by eric@cwm on 2/21/2012 & rated 79 points: This was entirely lacking fruit and is really just a mountain of oak now. I would be surprised if there is much bottle variation with this vintage. It appears to be completely shot. (3372 views) | | Tasted by rwilmeth on 9/11/2010 & rated 91 points: Drinking beautifully -- good fruit, lots of oak, butter, round finish. A signature California chardonnay. (3814 views) | | Tasted by 2PinotsInAPod on 11/14/2009 & rated 91 points: Still had great butter finish and smooth texture. Hint of green apple and pear. Beautiful gold coloring with brillant clarity. Aged well for a white wine thats 7 years old. (4017 views) | | Tasted by bigdavemdphd on 5/17/2008 & rated 95 points: Spectacular with honey, apple, lemon and cream. A good dose of oak on the finish that complemented the flavor without overpowering the fruit. Awesome. (3129 views) | | Tasted by jeff nowak on 6/26/2007 & rated 91 points: regretably, our last bottle. consistently enjoyable for an oak bomb, and i say that with no appologies. (2508 views) | | Tasted by Winetex on 3/11/2006 & rated 90 points: Dinner at the Wine Cask (The Wine Cask, Santa Barbara, CA): From magnum; Buttery, rich chardonnay. It was well-balanced but I find Pahlmeyer chards oaky for my tastes. (4395 views) | | Tasted by Mike V on 11/12/2005 & rated 91 points: Saturday at Chez Verhille: Lovely dense typically California Chard (3913 views) | | Tasted by JimmyV on 11/6/2005 & rated 93 points: Decanted 45 minutes. This was a very well proportioned wine and a real treat for those who enjoy big, buttery California Chardonnay. Unmistakeably New World, but very well put together with tropical notes of pineapple, custard, orange rind and butter. (3288 views) | | Tasted by Mike V on 7/27/2005 & rated 93 points: Typical "Industrial strength" Cali chard. Clear yellow thick feel. Nose is a little oaky palate is pure dense tropical fruit. I love these wines but they are not for everybody. (3240 views) | | Tasted by strulock on 11/25/2004 & rated 91 points: Very nice. Rich, opulent chardonnay. Great floral nose with hints of lemon and cedar. Crisp notes of ripe apple and pear that race to a strong finish. (3960 views) |
| Pahlmeyer Producer website
Jayson Pahlmeyer, recently joined by his daughter Cleo Pahlmeyer, have been producing highly sought-after, seductive, hedonistic wines since 1986. Pahlmeyer's flagship wine is the Proprietary Red, a Napa Valley Bordeaux blend. Chardonnay, Merlot and Pinot Noir round out this stunning portfolio. These wines are produced from exceptional mountain vineyards in the Napa Valley and Sonoma Coast, including the Pahlmeyer family’s Waters Ranch (Atlas Peak AVA) and Wayfarer Farm (Fort Ross/Seaview AVA). These vineyards, coupled with winemakers Kale Anderson and Bibiana Gonzalez Rave's passion and talent, turn out wines with power and finesse.Chardonnay The Chardonnay GrapeUSAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Napa Valley Napa Valley Wineries and Wine (Napa Valley Vintners)Napa ValleySt. Helena |
