Community Tasting Notes (average 86.4 pts. and median of 87 pts. in 54 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Teebodean on 9/28/2019: Better than expected. Especially on day two. Let it breathe (1104 views)
Tasted by Achromat on 6/2/2018 & rated 80 points: Expectations were high considering its vintage but the wine has alcoholic hotness and is awkward, overly acidic and too light in color. Has minimal fruit. Does not air well. I think it is a bit over ripe possibly. (1941 views)
Tasted by Yagil on 1/3/2018 & rated 87 points: 1st California wines tasting: see my previous TN (2265 views)
Tasted by Zweder on 10/31/2017 & rated 85 points: Sweet and ripe berry fruits in the bouquet as well as on the palate. Round, soft and easy tannin with hardly any bite. Soft acidity. Overall an ok, but not very interesting wine. 84 – 85 (2255 views)
Tasted by Z1nnfull on 10/4/2017 & rated 88 points: Smoothing out nicely, very drinkable now.
One of the best Zins for the $$$. (2299 views)
Tasted by bianca15 on 8/16/2017 & rated 86 points: Great bouquet, which is better than the taste. Flavor is good but a bit rough. But not bad for the price. (1569 views)
Tasted by CappyD on 7/2/2017 & rated 89 points: Fairly smooth and rich. Did well on days 2 and 3. Definitely try again. (1070 views)
Tasted by tomoem on 6/3/2017 & rated 85 points: A good wine for the cost but nothing particuallry special. Fairly fruit forward Zin with rich berry fruit verging on prune with some cherry finish. Short aftertaste which left me wondering if I liked it or simply could not find anything to dislike. (973 views)
Tasted by Z1nnfull on 4/27/2017 & rated 88 points: Since no one else seems to want to add a "Tasting Note" beyond the score:
Every year, this is the best under $10 (or thereabouts) buy for entry level Zin. It is bold and flavorful without being overly-extracted, it is varietally correct and just plain enjoyable.
You won't confuse this with the best Zin you ever had, but what a great Tuesday night wine with leftovers. (1004 views)
Tasted by Tuba Deus on 3/2/2017: Very bold and flavorful (1234 views)
Tasted by dwaynelm on 2/25/2017 & rated 88 points: Dark cherry, spice, and good acidity. Low to moderate tannin, maybe a hint of cocoa on the finish. Solid value. (1001 views)
Tasted by Yagil on 2/17/2017 & rated 86 points: quite enjoyable daily wine (946 views)
Tasted by Mr. E on 2/4/2017 & rated 80 points: This zin is typical, but over-oaked in my opinion. The flavor of green peppercorn is also overwhelming, and detracts from the dark fruit. The alcohol content (14.5%) is typical of this varietal, but in this case is slightly too much. (871 views)
Tasted by sjhansen3@yahoo.com on 12/18/2016: Pleasant and enjoyable. (887 views)
Tasted by Garb on 12/17/2016 & rated 70 points: Can't get past the taste of high alcohol. Tasted like someone mixed vodka into the wine. (689 views)
Tasted by Brhouts on 12/14/2016 & rated 86 points: Ok (208 views)
Tasted by Csn133 on 12/13/2016 & rated 77 points: First zin. Kind of alright. Nothing stands out to me. I'm not descriptive enough to say this is good or alright. (679 views)
Tasted by Kamkurtz on 11/24/2016: High alcohol kills it. (845 views)
Tasted by corkscrews on 11/10/2016 & rated 87 points: A nose of cherry and some spice, dark garnet in color. A medium bodied Zin, with black cherry, blackberry, sweet vanilla and spice on finish. A very good value, easy drinking. www.winelx.com (695 views)
Tasted by ThomasE on 9/18/2016 & rated 85 points: Good easy drinking zinfandel, red fruits on the nose, fruity but a bit jammy palate, hint of cigar box. Well quaffable and good value but nothing special (719 views)
Tasted by M. D. Van Norman on 9/6/2016 & rated 88 points: A reliable performer at an unbeatable price. (796 views)

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
