Tasted by Mcnamada on 11/19/2023 & rated 98 points: Drinking beautifully. Plum hit my mouth first followed by minerals and smoke. Tannins are soft finish is long and beautiful. This wine is so complexed. Wish I had 20 more bottles (1112 views)
Tasted by Cochon Rouge on 2/8/2023 & rated 94 points: In a perfect place right now. (1819 views)
Tasted by beatles on 9/6/2022 & rated 93 points: Rich, dark, notes of cofee, chocolate, smokey; you feel the vintage, but well handled.

Tasted by liber on 7/9/2022 & rated 94 points: Chez Br, 2 bottles decanted an hour, perfect corks and levels - glossy, deep not too dark ruby, little development; attractive, classy nose, rich plum and mineral; fullish, long, persistent, decent concentration and balance, curiously refreshing for such a big wine notwithstanding some syrup, fine grained tannins well covered by fruit, silky, upside, 25+ years. F+ (18). (2349 views)
Tasted by burlingtonm on 1/16/2021 & rated 93 points: Great depth of flavor, rich, dense and classy with a long finish and lots of potential to improve. (4228 views)
Tasted by Alvarovazquez on 1/1/2021 & rated 94 points: Decanted three hours before consumption. A beautiful Único from a tough vintage in Duero. Balanced and elegant. This is mature enough to enjoy now and for the next 3-5 years. (3540 views)
Tasted by McKraftyWino on 12/12/2020 & rated 92 points: very nice hit spot as thee normally do (3030 views)
Tasted by fc1910 on 5/1/2020 & rated 92 points: Again a fine bottle from RdelD, 6 hours slow ox prior first glass, chosed this vintage cause it should be upon the most open young VS,
fine smell of mint, eucalyptus, ripe black berry,
enormous juicy fruit appearance, so lingering tempting mouthfilling, very good balance, very deep the fruit, minerals and spice, very long delicious aftertaste, for me nearly too much of this sweet mouthfilling fruit, maybe will get more complexity over the next decades, VS is always a try, but the best ones enjoyed always were the mature ones, **(**-*****), 92-94(+) potential (4178 views)
Tasted by SimpleBoyFromD on 12/6/2019 & rated 95 points: Very well balanced. Medium bodied blend of blank and red fruit. Needs to be laid down 15 more years. (3681 views)
Tasted by Larry&Ron on 10/21/2019 & rated 96 points: Wine did not require a decant. (2763 views)
Tasted by gastonduhart on 6/2/2019 & rated 94 points: Not sure how to describe this amazing wine...

So elegant and balanced... fruity flavors of cherry tobacco and minerals well balanced but very harmonious (3109 views)
Tasted by acyso on 3/2/2019 & rated 95 points: Is this the most profound Unico I've had? No. But it is an absolutely splendid and delicious bottle of wine already. The nose is deep and intense, with plenty of black fruit, dust, leather, and earth. It's a profoundly deep wine, with plenty of ripeness, but not for a second is it overripe, pruney, or roasted. The palate shows a dustiness that I just love, and there's so much plush fruit here to amp up this wine. It's a fruit bomb in the best possible sense of the word. There's a hint of oak that adds some nice overall complexity too. Ready now (really), but probably still has a long life ahead. (4111 views)
Tasted by Brent25 on 2/21/2019 & rated 96 points: Clear deep garnet; clean medium plus nose of leather, cedar, eucalyptus, fennel, blackberry, pepper, red currant leaf and cinnamon; developing nose; dry; high acidity; medium plus tannins; high alcohol; medium plus body; pronounced flavour intensity; pfn with addition of cocoa and dried fig; long finish; outstanding; drink now, but has potential to age for another 10 years; fabulous wine with a hint of wildness (2873 views)
Tasted by robbieneuro12 on 12/20/2018 & rated 93 points: Starting to really come into its own from a drinking window perspective. Really rich and complex flavor profile - should be good for the next 10 years (2675 views)
Tasted by llapuerta on 6/10/2018 & rated 94 points: Great nose, more jammy with hints of green stems than the 2002. Decanted for an hour and a half but seemed to get better in the glass. Will open the next bottle for three hours (3846 views)
Tasted by jsmorris707 on 3/4/2018 & rated 95 points: Decanted for 2 hrs, deep ruby, beautiful black cherries, mod. tannins, long finish; delicious, drink or hold (no rush) (3780 views)
Tasted by psmith on 12/16/2017 & rated 94 points: This was popped-and-poured (or at least tased), which is probably mostly to blame for what was initially a more shrill, nondescript, and sour cherry wood-driven quality. Over a few hours it gained both depth and weight, with a darker fruit quality and plenty of earthy tones. Fresh and young, but showing very little of the super-ripeness so often associated with the vintage. (3831 views)
Tasted by Nanda on 12/16/2017 & rated 93 points: Wines with the HDH Auction (Spiaggia): Big nose of rich red and black fruit, with smoked meat and smoked herb. Palate is rich and densely fruited but so lifted and bright. Toasty, rich finish. Young with a long way to go. Nothing roasted or '03 about this. (3970 views)
Tasted by Kemo Sabe on 8/30/2017 & rated 92 points: Loads of red berry and cherry with some strawberry. A ton of fruit but its not jammy or over done. Elegance. Balance with grace but this needs a ton of time. Well made and fun to drink at this early stage. (4447 views)
Tasted by tinybubbles on 8/29/2017 & rated 87 points: Ripe and toasty. Slightly volatile finish. Some of this may settle down with additional age but won't make it my style of wine. I liked this less than anyone else. 87- (3206 views)
Tasted by il_diavolo on 8/4/2017 & rated 95 points: really classy nose with lots of depth to the fruit. Ripe, dense fruit with a plummy character and a hint of vanilla. Big and somewhat sweet, but handles it with class. Some early hints of tertiary notes like spices and tobacco but this remains quite primary and, unless you love powerful upfront fruit, it will probably benefit from quite a few more years in the cellar. For me in this vintage straddles quite well a new world and old world style characteristics. 95+ (3459 views)
Tasted by walkerjfw on 6/15/2017 & rated 93 points: Dinner at Le Coq Rico NYC with Victor T, corkage friendly spot in NYC. Victor contributed this one, drank after a 2000 Monbousquet. Decanted at the restaurant for about 90 minutes prior to drinking.

Dark ruby/purple color, no signs of separation. Classic VS nose, ripe red fruits, cherry. Rich palate of dark cherry, plums, leather and vanilla. Fruit forward and rich, very ripe, tannins sweetened and still resolving. The somm pointed out this was a ripe vintage for Spain and VS, which come through in the palate. Long finish.

Classic and really nice Vega Sicilia, my verdict is the wine is still very young. Not surprising for a wine that has the potential for glacial pace of aging...this is drinking well, I would revisit again in 5 years. Great upside with this - 20+ years ahead of it. score goes higher with some cellar age.. (3453 views)
Tasted by winebuff037 on 4/29/2017 & rated 95 points: Balanced and smooth, not an over powering vintage, elegant. (3636 views)
Tasted by Fatty Cat on 2/24/2017 & rated 90 points: Unico tasting (27 different vintages) at the Rheingau Gourmet Festival 2017: full purple colour with slow legs; modestly concentrated aromas of cherry and pomegranate in nose and mouth; strong tannins blocked other sensory impressions.

Can improve to 93-94 points in the next 10 years.

Tempranillo Blend

Tempranillo is the backbone of wines made ihvhhcn the best well-known Spanish regions Rioja and Ribera del Duero, but is also grown as far afield as Mexico and Australia.

As a flavor profile, red fruits like strawberries and cherries can predominate - but with a rustic edge. The Many wines made from Tempranillo will spend a few years in barrel and bottle before reaching the consumers . Many Tempranillo-based wines see a few years of oak - add that to a few years of bottle and the wine can give a subtle - and occasionaly not-so-subtle - leathery mouthfeel. The combination of the tart fruit and tannins make this wine very food friendly.

Spain

Vinos de España - Wines of Spain (Instituto Español de Comercio Exterior) | Wikipedia
Wine Map on weinlagen-info

Spain is the third largest wine producing nation in the world, occupying the majority of the Iberian Peninsula with vast diversity in climate, culture, and of course, wine. From inky, dark reds of the [Priorat] to dry, white Finos from Andalusia, Spain can easily boast of elaborating a wide variety of notable styles. Within Spain there are currently 62 demarcated wine regions, of which a handful have gained international recognition: [Rioja], Priorat and [Ribera del Duero]. Yet these regions are only a small sample of the high quality wines Spain produces. Regions such as Cava, Penedes, Somontano, Galicia, Rueda and Jerez are only a few of the numerous regions worthy of exploration throughout Spain. Spain can also lay claim to having the most land under vine in the world, growing up to, by some accounts, 600 indigenous varietals of which Tempranillo is their most well known. Other popular varietals include [Garnacha], Bobal and Monastrell for reds and for whites; the infamous [sic] Palomino Fino grape which is used in the production of sherry wine, Pedro Ximenez in Montilla Morilles, Albarino used in the creation of the bright, effervescent wines of Galicia, and Verdejo in Rueda. - Source: - Catavino.net

Spain is not in the forefront of winemaking for its dessert wines, other than for its sweet wines from Sherry country including the highly revered Olorosos (when sweetened). But apart from Sherry Spain has a range of styles of dessert wines, ranging from the those made from the Pedro Ximenez grape primarily in Jerez and Montilla-Moriles) to luscious, red dessert wines made in the Mediterranean from the Garnacha (Grenache) grape. Some good Moscatels are made in Mallorca, Alicante and Navarre. The northwest corner of Spain, Galicia, with its bitter Atlantic climate, is even making dessert wines, called “Tostadillos” in the village of Ribadivia (similar to France’s “Vin de Paille”). The Canary Islands have made interesting dessert wines for centuries (they are mentioned by Shakespeare, for example) and in recent years the quality of winemaking has been improved and the Canary Islands wines are being better marketed now. The winemaking styles for “Vinos Dulces” are also diverse, from “Late Harvest” (Vendimia Tardía) to “Fortified Wines” (Fermentación Parcial). Based on in-spain.info.
