Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 92.2 pts. and median of 93 pts. in 35 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by glou.sf on 3/21/2020 & rated 95 points: Perfectly mature bottle. Nose of popcorn, apples, white flowers, jasmin, and a hint of butter. Refreshing acidity with flavors of minerals, ripe apples, butterscotch and citrus on the palate. Long finish. This is a big wine, but not at all over the top, with the acidity as a good counterweight to all the boldness. Distinctly Burgundy, but it does remind me a bit of Aubert is trying to do. Anyway, fantastic wine! (1202 views)
Tasted by Nanda on 5/19/2018: This bottle showed advanced. Lightly oxidative nose with lots of bruised orchard fruit. Rich on the palate with great concentration and some good acids, but showing advanced. Bummer. (1684 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 5/19/2018: Wines Tasted at HDH Auction (Spiaggia - Chicago IL): Age appropriate maturity, but this seemed simply flat. I've had better bottles. (1930 views)
Tasted by acyso on 5/19/2018 & rated 85 points: HDH auction at Spiaggia; 5/17/2018-5/19/2018 (Chicago, IL): This isn't showing well at all, especially after the brilliant last bottle. Long in the tooth and tired. Not oxidized, but uninspiring and old. A little heavy and alcoholic, and a metric ton of oak. (2439 views)
Tasted by acyso on 11/26/2017 & rated 95 points: Dinner at S.K.Y. (Chicago, IL): Holy wow, this is an absolutely smoking bottle. Like what the hell good. There's a bit of clear reduction on the nose that comes off slightly popcorny (no, it's not Coche), but it definitely speaks to the good condition of this bottle. The palate is rich and thick, with tons of powerful fruit and minerality. Great acidity and ripeness, but with the requisite structure to balance it out. (2545 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 8/27/2017: This bottle is more tired than others opened in 2015 and 2016. Rich and enjoyable, but getting tired. (1391 views)
Tasted by BradE on 12/15/2016: DP, some nice white burgs, DRC GE, and 05 Dujac reds.: We drank this twice tonight, in different flights. Ray T brought back one of his old parlor tricks, and a magnum was split by the somm into two decanters. None of us called it. A very clean and enjoyable wine, that was good if not overly noteworthy. (1877 views)
Tasted by BradE on 12/15/2016: DP, some nice white burgs, DRC GE, and 05 Dujac reds.: A very clean and enjoyable wine, that was good if not overly noteworthy. (1946 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 10/18/2016 & rated 91 points: Started off slightly musty, seemingly slightly tired, and giving fear for being slightly oxidized. More air served this wine well, turning it into a lean and (almost) classically styled white burg with plenty of apple and elegant structure that worked wonderfully with most of our food, particularly grits with mushroom. (1637 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 11/11/2015 & rated 91 points: Lieu-dit Cru 10th Anniversary Burgundy Dinner (Paris Club - Chicago IL): in 2002 Perrieres flight. Lush stone fruit with signs of still pronounced new oak. Very easy to enjoy, less easy to enjoy this as specifically Meursault 1er Cru. Mature, but age appropriate. (2438 views)
Tasted by mjg87 on 7/11/2015: Round, open, and very good. (1499 views)
Tasted by acyso on 6/7/2015 & rated 90 points: House Party (Chicago, IL): I thought from the colour that I ought to be worried. A heavily sulphured nose, with some waxy and fat yellow fruit in the background. Without a doubt, this is super ripe. The palate does seem a bit advanced with a somewhat bulbous amount of ripe fruit -- or is that just the overrated 2002 vintage showing its character? The oak treatment shows here, though thankfully there's not much toast. Still, there's a fair bit of acid, and the gangly bits about this wine may simply be due to my popping and pouring it. We'll see where this goes with some air. (2417 views)
Tasted by Wine Expresso on 8/1/2014 & rated 93 points: From a magnum, it is drinkable although it may not be at its peak. Very welcoming citrus, mineral and honey nose. Well balanced, structured, powerful and long lasting taste. Looking forward to open the next bottle soon. (2016 views)
Tasted by acyso on 5/17/2014 & rated 93 points: HDH Burgundy Auction (Chicago, IL): Quite a good whiff of sulphur on the nose. The palate is very intense with lots of tart citrus. Tons of power -- this is a great bottle of Meursault. (2613 views)
Tasted by tooch on 5/17/2014 & rated 94 points: HDH Auction Notes (Tru - Chicago, IL): An incredibly fine example of Boillot's Perrières. Lots of intensity on the nose with flint, melon, pear, and smoke. The palate was crisp, refreshing and complex. Deep and layered, this had dense lemon, and lime tones. Off the charts, and continues to build the case that Boillot's wines show well in their adolescence. (2976 views)

Tasted by Bordeauxman on 3/29/2013 & rated 93 points: no notes... awesome wine (1999 views)
Tasted by sjwshiraz on 2/2/2013: No premox. The best bottle of 7 so far. Beginning to show some secondary flavours but still quite young. Biscuity with white peach and a touch of bacon fat. Excellent (2082 views)
Tasted by Bordeauxman on 1/1/2013 & rated 92 points: No formal notes taken but this bottle was great. (1701 views)
Tasted by Bordeauxman on 11/24/2012 & rated 92 points: No notes taken. (1781 views)
Tasted by salil on 12/5/2011 & rated 93 points: Leaner, brighter and more minerally than the other Perrières in the flight. The fruit's incredibly fresh but more restrained and in the background compared to the other wines, and there's a sense of real purity and clarity to the flavours here with lots of depth and outstanding balance. Really impressive. (2231 views)
Tasted by Bordeauxman on 12/5/2011 & rated 93 points: Bright light golden color. Nose of honeysuckle & white flowers. Very well balanced taste of citrus, honey and mineral. Very fresh tasting and drinking wonderfully now with a long finish. Plenty of life left in MP that is approaching 10 years of age. (2075 views)
Tasted by Bordeauxman on 10/29/2011 & rated 92 points: No notes taken at tasting, but... Golden color. Nutty + white flower nose. Delicious mineral and roasted nut taste with an element if citrus and pear. Popped and poured but improved with time in glass. (2004 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 6/7/2011: Full yellow. At first, all butter and hazelnut with a rich, carressing texture. Then it became more angular with orange blossom and clove showing and the acidity coming up strongly. This was the most pleasing stage. By the end of the bottle, more and more resiny wood crept in, putting a bit of a dent in the finish. Excellent and definitely not advanced, but somehow it didn't quite live up to its initial promising flash of flavor and feel. (2084 views)
Tasted by Rangstrom on 8/21/2010 & rated 94 points: Popped and poured, excellent right from the start but showed even better with a little air and as it warmed in the glass. An ideal match for roast chicken. Light yellow, slightly cloudy. Not a rabble-rousing nose--peach, pear, white flowers--but explosive on the tongue. Intense, racy and long. No p'ox issues.

Les Perrières has become my favorite white burg 1er. (2797 views)

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio
